Sacré-Cœur, Paris, France - my first photo

Sometime in the late 70s, Sacré-Cœur, Paris, France.
Scan of 35mm photo print.

That day in Paris

On a weekend visit with my parents to Paris I took my first picture, with my dad's 35mm Canon AE-1 camera. Back home in the Netherlands I had the opportunity to develop this photo in the darkroom of a friend of the family. I still have that print, it now hangs in my home office.

Photo cameras I own(ed)

It would be many years later before I got my own camera (that same Canon AE-1 actually) which I then took on a trip to Nepal.
When we entered the digital age, I had several point-and-shoot cameras, until one day I decided to take photography more seriously and bought a Nikon D7000. Not too long after, I upgraded to a Nikon D800 which still is my main camera, along an Olympus OM-D E-M5 for travel and street photography.

Medium format photography?

Recently I have become interested in medium format photography, I bought a few cheap second hand models and film but just haven't gotten around to take pictures with them yet. The greatest hurdle is the film developing technique. I'm conscious of my environment and haven't found a method yet that is environment-friendly.

Travel memories

Other than my entry into photography this photo brings back memories of travels through Europe, visiting old cities, churches, art galleries and museums, and seeing many famous art pieces up close. Growing up in the Netherlands I was lucky to be exposed to art and culture from an early age. Each summer we'd drive to one of the European countries for a week or two vacation, but only later did I recognize the value of experiencing a range of cultures.

Can't wait to visit Sacré-Cœur ! I am so looking forward to visit there, hopefully this winter or Spring :)

I remembered I used to go to darkroom only to get my picture done. Today's generation doesn't know how tedious that process was. I am still young but my grandpa used to teach me about darkroom and vintage photography while I was 6 years old.

It's indeed sparking some memories I had in mind :)

I hope you enjoy Paris, it's been 20 years since I last visited there so I don't even know what it's like there now.

I have very few memories from my youth, but that darkroom experience is one of them. For some reason it made a lasting impression, and I'd love to get back into that art form with medium format photography as I mentioned in my post.

What a great story!! You obviously have a talent for photography composition etc etc....this is your first shot? No wonder you framed it - it's gorgeous!

Thanks! I don't remember exactly, this is quite a few moons ago, but I'm pretty sure I must have taken a series of pictures. We only selected one to develop, which resulted in this print. And to this day this is still one of my favorite photos.
