Travel - France - Palace of Versailles

On our second day in France (after exploring Paris by foot) we decided to take the train out to the famous Palace of Versailles (aka Château de Versailles). According to Wikipedia the palace was originally King Louis XIII's hunting lodge and then over the years converted and extended until its completion in 1715 under King Louis XIV.

We could walk straight to the gardens behind the palace, but decided to take on the queue to get into the Palace. The queue moved relatively quick and we entered the extravagant Palace within 30min. The detail inside the Palace is unlike anything I've seen before. You need to go and stand in a room and just take in everything for a few minutes. Even afterwards there were details that I only saw on photos (I've posted some of them here). The highlights for me were the Chapel, the Queen's bed chamber, Galerie des Batailles and of course, the world famous Hall of Mirrors.

After walking through the palace, we went for picnic in the just as extravagant garden behind the palace. The gardens cover a full 800 hectares of land and seems to have even more history behind it than the actual palace. You can find it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gardens_of_Versailles

We simply chilled on the grass and enjoyed the awesome summer sun with various locals and other tourists. France kept on impressing us and would even more in the days to come.

Tell me what you think and stay tuned for more!

Beautiful!

Hi! I'm french!
Excellent reportage !

Thanks for the great info, I've added the Google Translated version below:

"If you love the royal castles, come and visit the castle of Fontainebleau.
The true home of kings.
34 French kings lived there for several months a year for summer and autumn hunts.
Each king added his own style without damaging what the others had done.
Napoleon lived there as well as François 1st.
It is 70 km from Paris and worth the trip.
It is still moderately frequented but the number of tourists is increasing.
In addition, the forest of Fontainebleau is a world spot for climbing with its unique rocks in the world.
You understand that I love this place! See you soon."

Sounds amazing, next time I'm in Paris I will definitely make the effort to get to Fontainebleau!

Keep exploring...

Agreed. If you've seen the palace I would suggest going directly to the garden and skipping the queues. Or just skip the palace completely and run up a mountain... ;)
