PROJECT T3-5X2-001 (An Original Short Story)
Dr. Levrk’t strode across the elongated hallway that leads to his laboratory. His truculent visage drove every personnel out of his way. They are all familiar with his overwhelming sense of authority, but never had they ever seen him as furious as this. No one dared to say a word until the director disappeared into the other side of the two conjoining doors, slamming the huge, rigid planes behind him as he did.
He was in the middle of an important meeting when he received a message from one of his technicians prompting him to go back to the facility as soon as he can, for they are currently having a major malfunction with the prototype of his experiment. Upon hearing the report, he adjourned the meeting right away and rushed to the facility.
“What happened here?” Dr.Levrk’t roared once the doors are completely closed. He found his team huddled around the spherical glass that houses the prototype, all their faces looked grim when they turned to him.
“Dr.Levrk’t, the thermal power source and the water supply have been having some faulty transmissions since this morning” the technician sighed. ”We’ve examined every component of the whole system, but until now, no procuring mistakes were found on our end.”
“What do you mean?” the director snorted impatiently.
“The specimens inside the glass are not behaving as they were supposed to. They are deliberately bypassing the program structure. There had been thousands of activities that were tracked by our monitor – simultaneous, massive attacks from different regions of the sphere. We were not able to stop them on time. The activities have caused the engines to forfeit their purpose, and it will be too late for us to do a maintenance reboot. Either way, the whole system is about to collapse. The glass is starting to crack. I’m sorry, Director” the young man confessed, his voice sounding defeated.
Dr.Levrk’t was stunned with what he just heard. With the specimens destroying their habitat, and eventually killing each other, there is no way that this this prototype would last for long.
He couldn’t be more frustrated. He spent half of his life on this project, his whole career depended on it. Once the glass breaks, all of the specimens will die, and it will all be over for him. It took him twenty years to have this project materialized, and he knew he didn’t have that much time left to create another one. He stared at his beloved experiment, his very own creation, as it continuously destroys itself.
PROJECT T3-5X2-001 is a complete failure.
Funny, all this time we called it Earth.
