dWeb: Freedom In The Making

"Its true that contemporary technology permits decentralization, it also permits centralization. It depends on how you use the technology."

Makers come in wide variety.

This story is about a maker I believe to be doing foundational work we all will ultimately build upon. While not "working with his hands" in the traditional sense of craftsmanship, he is crafting a comprehensive ecosystem of tools to support humanity in fundamental ways.

Amazing decentralized things are afoot.

Some of the most promising are being pulled together and implemented by Jared Rice Sr. This article is about the tools he's making in the distributed realm, tools that I believe are of great importance.

At the core of it all,

Mr. Rice has created an entirely new internet protocol with the potential to displace the http:// we all know and love. This new dweb:// protocol is a key part of his ongoing mission to liberate humanity from the clutches of centralized power. Jared and his team, after many months of intense effort, have dweb:// up and running, and have begun to release other tools that work hand in hand with that protocol.

Unleash might be a better word,

because these newly created tools have the potential of bringing down the powers that be. This is because the dWeb protocol is completely decentralized. No authoritarian system can take it down or turn it off, short of completely shutting down the internet itself. The dWeb protocol is attack and censorship proof.

At the very least, I envision these internet tools loosening human governments' grip on our finances and our ability to experience the peaceful, private enjoyment of the fruit of our labor.

A major example is dBrowser,

a new internet browser (think Chrome or Firefox) that works with existing websites but also supports the new dweb:// protocol.

The abbreviation dWeb stands for Distributed Web. The dweb protocol includes a distributed name service known as dDNS, which keeps internet naming authority out of the hands of centralized control freaks.

There is a large and growing array of websites (more than 100) and tools that promise to all play together in synergistic ways. I believe these tools can give us new liberty, economic self determination, and greater freedom from the tyranny of human governments.

Using this array of tools, we will be able to create and host our websites without hosting services. We will be able to store data without "the cloud." The tools will provide domain name service without the perpetually increasing ICANN domain name fees. We will have social media capabilities that will pay us for original content benefitting others. We will be able browse the web without perpetual snooping, and to exchange goods and services privately without interference. Payment systems, music systems, and video systems are all under development and soon to be available.

Can you sense my excitement?

I posted my first article on dSite today:

"At Home on dSite!"

It's not much to look at, but I think for me it will always be of historical interest, because I have been waiting for what I hope the dweb will bring for more than a quarter century.

There's a widespread metaphor about standing on the shoulders of giants. Jared Rice Sr. recognizes that he is building on the work of many others. I recognize that he is doing this in such a comprehensive way that, when all is said and done, makers like you and I will be enabled to peacefully cooperate in the building of a better world for ourselves and our children.

Were you already aware of dWeb?

Not a lot is working yet, but bit by bit this ecosystem is coming on line. I believe our patience will soon be rewarded.

What do you think about decentralization? About taking the power to coin and distribute money out of the hands of banks and governments? About internet privacy and self determination?

I would love to hear from you in the comments below.

P.S. If you have an "in" with anybody at Steemit, Inc. - Would you please ask them to get rid of these damn, extremely annoying "off-website" arrow/boxes? The have, overnight, made Steemit ugly. There are much better solutions.

I just wanted to say thanks for coming to my blog. you were one ofthe first people I met. Thanks for reading abd even though I relied on Steemit for income at times the friends here far out weigh anything else. Thanks and do still drop in on my girl lynncoyle1 once i am gone please. Take care

Hi, Brian,

I was so saddened to hear that you're approaching the end of your road here... I had hoped that some intervention you tried might have restored your health. Thank you for remembering me. I know I've been out of touch for a long time. As a "manual curator," all too often people fall off my radar until something happens. Well, this isn't what I was waiting for.

Lynn said we should be responding from our heart, and so Brian, this is straight from mine. <3

I don't know if or how much of my stuff you may have read, but if you've read a bit you would know that I believe at the deepest level that Jesus is the God who created this universe and everything in it, including us. That really is the best news I could possibly share with you at this difficult time, because if he created us, he can certainly re-construct us.

I am persuaded that Jesus/God will one day raise me from the dead. He would also do for this for you if you were to come to believe in him. If you have any inclination at all, I would be more than glad to answer any questions, but please know that I share this with you from my heart. <3

"“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him."** - Ref.**

I'll close by wishing you peace. I will try to remember to drop by Lynn's blog from time to time.

@creatr

Hey @creatr or should I say at@creator now! I'm confused as I followed the link to : https://dsite.io/distributedweb/@creator/at-home-on-dsite - what is that site - it looks just like steemit user interface?

But with respect to the main topic of your post - this is a very interesting development and one I had come across a few months back with learning about a business called "decenternet" and their plans for dnet - again with the aim of a decentralised internet. Perhaps it is a race for the first dNet/ dWeb.

Hi, my friend!

So, yeah, I'm @creator where that name was available... ;)

So https://dsite.io is the Steemit clone that is or will be on the dWeb... and it looks like I'm one of the earliest adopters... ;)

I had not heard of decenternet... do you have any links?

I certainly want to know about whatever's out there... I think that dWeb has some very strong backing, and seems to me likely to become a de-facto standard.

Thanks for stopping by! :D

BTW, I'm also doing something a tad different these days on Whaleshares: http://whaleshares.io/@creatr

Would this be more secure - Can we forsake Nord VP or even Avast?

I'm not quite sure how this plays into protection against viruses and malware, but I strongly suspect it will at least be helpful. If we're harder to track, we're harder to attack.

I have much more reading and study to do, but I intend to adopt early and often... ;)

I wonder if all of this places Mr Rice in potential danger, as far as some big players I am sure are not going to be happy about losing control!

The SEC stepped in and tried to destroy him about 10 months ago. The story is not over yet. My understanding is that there is an extensive support and defense team that is at work to vindicate the man. Here's an article you may find of interest:

AriseBank Isn’t A Scam. It’s A Victim of Libel and Slander.

Thanks for wondering out loud... ;)
