Let it be known that week 2 was infinitely harder than last week to choose just a single winner. In my mind, there were 3 additional entries that deserved first prize! (This tells me that we need a 3rd prizes pronto). I will continue to search for further sponsorship in order to up the prize pool enough so that each additional prize will be worth it!

So holy crap, everyone upped their game (yes even @bleedpoet lol) to a whole new level. I hummed and Haaaahed all night writing this. Wondering, did I choose the right entry...

• This week's entries challenged the very fabric of what is a sandwich and I was very drawn to the fact that a majority of the entries featured home made ingredients. That part was huge!
• I also appreciated the presentation of most of the submissions. Pictures really emphasized how lovely those sandwiches were put together and also how much effort some of them took.
• Most entries looked and sounded soooo freakin' tasty. I'm very eager to try out some of these creations myself!
  *The back stories/additional info were also great to read and really helped provide a personal context to the entries.
• I also very much enjoyed the 5 very distinctive entries by @steemit-foodie who is quickly becoming a legend of this contest!

I chose @progressivechef as our Week 2 Steemit Sandwich Contest First Prize Winner for a variety of reasons:

1. For @progressivechef 's entry "Pineapple Open Sandwich with Caramelized and Fresh Fruits"

2. He used freakin' pan fried pineapple instead of bread... His creation appeared to be some kind of "dessert style" sandwich, which immediately caught my attention! I thought it was very original and it had context! I could definitely see this being on the dessert menu at a "fantasy shmansy" restaurant. This entry won huge points for blowing my mind. Never even considered an all fruit sandwich (minus the cheese).

3. The entry looked incredible. It was beautifully & artfully laid out like a master artisan chef in both presentation and as photographed. Made it appear colourful, juicy and flavourful & all around pro.

4. Ingredients were simple, however, I found that the combination of fruits were no arbitrary choice and were selected with purpose and thoughtfulness. Caramelizing them was interesting and I believe it was done to help blend the flavours by making them sweeter, cutting citrus and changing their overall texture. The mint seemed like a subtle touch to help offset some of the sweetness as well and to provided colour balance and opposite texture. Even though I don't typically love cottage cheese, I know that it goes well with fruits. I also think it was more or less the glue that helped contain the sandwich (yogurt would have been my choice).

This is what @sevinwilson our Week 2 Veto Voter had to say about his decision:

• Without further ado.. With the #2 pick in the 2017 Week 2 Steemit Sandwich Contest, @sevinwilson, picks @jaymorebeet and her Bacon, Tomato, and Smoked Gouda on Homemade Garlic Cheddar Bread.

• It was a tough decision, but what ended up pushing this sandwich over the edge was the Homemade Roasted Garlic and Cheddar Bread. 16 cloves of garlic in a loaf of bread is unbelievable. I can just imagine the vampires trembling in their boots right now.

• Life is all about making choices and this weeks choice for the #2 spot was incredibly difficult.

• Some of the highlights in my eyes from this week included @progressivechef's open faced pineapple sandwich, @jaymorebeet's her Bacon, Tomato, and Smoked Gouda on Homemade Garlic Cheddar Bread, and @steemit-foodie's Baked Broccoli, Ham, Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sandwich.

• Some things I learned this week include:

• You can make a sandwich out of a pineapple.
• A gherkin is just a pickled cucumber. (Shoutout to @creativewoman)
• You Steemians are creative and like cooking with eggs!

Notes from @jaybird

• @jaymorebeets entry was definitely in my top 3 picks for this week. It was a very close battle. I wanted to highlight just how impressed I was with her creation. I'll very much be looking forward to working with her in Week 3, selecting our winners, as she clearly knows what a winning entry should be comprised of.

SELECTING WINNERS!

1. @jaybird: I will be selecting the winner based on a variety of parameters. Just do your thing and have fun with it. I'm considering many factors such as presentation, ingredients & originality, creativity, community opinion & artistic ability just to name a few. PLEASE make sure to follow the rules! They are easy to follow and help prevent the tragedy of Null entries!

2. To start, there will be 2 prizes. First Prize = 70% of the SBD pool collected

3. Second Prize dubbed the "Veto Vote" = 30% of the SBD pool collected + the honour of selecting the following weeks second prize winner. This prize is ideally given to an entry that although it did not win the contest, showed distinction among all the other entries. This could be a feature such as it was the community favourite, it used the most bazaar ingredients, or, it was just the best looking sandiwch etc. IMPORTANT! The "Veto Vote" holder may not vote on his or her own sandwich to be selected as the second prize. However, they are still eligible to win First Prize should they enter the contest that week.

4. We hope to grow both the prize pool and the number of prizes awarded as soon as possible!
