3RD GRADE MATH - ADDITION FACT FAMILIES OR RELATED FACTS
Addition Fact Families Or Related Fact Families
After learning basic addition facts, kids get ready to learn addition and subtraction facts. We call them fact families or related facts. For example; consider the numbers 2, 3 and 5. How these numbers are related? There is a pattern of relationship among these numbers as given below;
2 + 3 = 5
3 + 2 = 5
5 - 2 = 3
5 - 3 = 2
The above relationships among 2, 3 and 5 are known as a fact family or related facts. In this post there are 3 worksheets to practice this key basic math skill. Please do all the three worksheets to become a math smart.

All Three!
always well done bud. Easy to understand and follow, you're students are blessed to have you guiding them. While I definitely understand the principles presented and actually use them in my head as 'shortcuts' in lieu of 'showing my work' almost daily for various things...... these concepts were brushed over in my days. I was never taught them, I was simply good at recognizing patterns.
Today it's so convoluted, take 8 steps back to take one forward...so to speak. When principals and methods like this take one...maybe two steps.
I know you're in Canada, but have they instituted something similar to 'Common Core' up there? What a disease that is to the education system here!
You are 100% correct, teachers and education system do make a difference. In my case our section got an excellent math teacher but the other section's teacher was not good and all my friends in that section stayed weak in math and still blame their teacher as he never addressed their problems and paid attention to individual needs.
Unfortunately I still find the system a problem to address the different understanding levels of kids in the same grade. It's one fits all system. Yes it's very much same here in Canada too!
