3RD GRADE MATH - WORKSHEETS ON ESTIMATING NUMBERS
Estimating Numbers - Need of a Benchmark or a Standard
Estimating numbers is a key math skill which is learned in 3rd grade math. When it comes to estimation, first of all we need a benchmark or a standard. A benchmark or a standard means we all need to agree to assume a specific quantity of an object equivalent to a number. For example; a specific length is considered as an inch or a metre, a specific weight is considered as a gram. Some moment of time is consider as a second.
To estimate how much sugar in a given bag, one needs to know the benchmark to measure sugar which can be grams or pounds.
There are three worksheets on the concept of estimating numbers in this post and I hope parents and teachers will find these worksheets helpful to teach and practice estimation to the kids.
