What Is SteemTipper
Earlier this week, SteemTipper was launched.
This free service allows you to use Steem to tip users on other social media platforms. For now, it can only be used with Twitter, but other social media platforms will be added soon.
Why Use SteemTipper?
The nice thing about SteemTipper is that the people you send a tip to don’t even have to have a SteemIt account. If you send them a tip, they can use it to forward the gesture and send the tip to someone else.

How To Use SteemTipper
First, you have to visit the SteemTipper website.
In the top right corner, you can find the button to connect your Twitter account.

Once you’ve connected your Twitter account, you’ll be redirected to your dashboard.
Before you can start tipping, you need to deposit some Steem. You find a ‘Deposit’ link in the top menu.

On the Deposit page, you need to fill in the amount you want to deposit, your SteemIt username and your Twitter username. Once you’ve entered all information, you can create a deposit link through Steemconnect.

Go through the Steemconnect process to finalize your deposit.
Now you’ve added some Steem to your balance, you can start tipping.
To send someone a tip via Twitter, you need to use a special formula:
@steemtipper tip @twitternametotip amount steem
In the example below, you can see how I sent a tip of 0.5 steem to @omitaylor.
You can add a message to the tweet too, if you want to.

You can keep track of the tips you sent and the ones you’ve received in your SteemTipper dashboard.
As you can see I received a tip from @followbtcnews, one of the creators of SteemTipper.

📣 Steemtipathon
Following the example of @omitaylor, who came up with the idea of a #steemtipathon in her post about SteemTipper, I will use all earnings from this post and deposit them in my SteemTipper account.
On Tuesday May 8th, I will be spreading the tips around, using the hashtag #steemtipathon.

This is an app that is much overdue and very brilliant @simplymike thanks so much for bringing it to light! Such a stellar way to introduce people to this platform, once they have one for facebook that will be a game changer here in the US. Twitter in my opinion is a more high brow, professional, almost snobbish version of social media, as in my opinion more of the 'masses' use facebook due to utility alone in media transfer and communication. Even still this is an amazing development for the steemit community and once this can move across all platforms that will be a game changing move that will really get the gears moving in the right direction.
True. It will raise interest in Steem and SteemIt with it (which will hopefully frive up the price of Steem)

That's a really cool idea. Also a great tutorial, @simplymike! That should be another way of getting people interested in Steem. Once it starts showing up in their Twitter wallet, maybe they'll want to learn how to get more.

I'm so excited that you're going to do #steemtipathon. I'm going to aggregate a twitter moments I think for the entire hashtag. Also, I believe it was said that if someone doesn't Auth Steemtipper after 7 days of getting a tip, the tip will be returned to you. So that is a fail safe that if the person doesn't want to collect the tip, it doesn't stay in a limbo account. Yay! More updates soon, busy day. Also, I plan to do some newbiegames shilling. :P

These days, I’m not so active on Twitter anymore as I used to be, still, I thought this would be a good reason to give my twitter acount some TLC again... :0)
