Getting Rid Of The Awful Username

10 days ago, I wrote the post 'How My Very First SteemIt Move Was So Wrong & Will Affect My Entire SteemIt Career.

In this post, I explained that choosing this username was a huge mistake for so many different reasons. But changing your username on Steemit means setting up a new account, which has quite some consequences.

Today I realized that if I ever wanted to do it, I should act now, before this account grows bigger. I currently have a reputation score of 50, 'only' 500 followers and quite a good amount of Steem Power, so if there will ever be a time to do it, that time is now!

Which Way To Go?

Creating the new account is easy. I simply go to Blocktrades and select 'Create a new SteemIt account', which will cost me 6 Steem.

But then it gets tricky...

I worked hard to get where I am now, and I guess I don't need to explain I want to lose as little as possible.

In the comments section of the post I mentioned above, @robin1991 gave me some suggestions. The problem is that I don't know which way would help me to get back on my feet the fastest...

  • I send all my SBD en Steem to my new account, power down my SP and send it to the new account in 13 installments

  • I send all my SBD en Steem to my new account and delegate all my SP to the new account.

I could be completely wrong, but I think the first option will make it take longer to get back on my feet again (13 weeks, I guess), but then my account will be fully powered up again.

While the second option will probably get up the numbers faster, but I'm not sure how limited my new account will be having only delegated SP...

I'm really in the dark here and I could really use some good advice on this!

Sort:

Sounds like good advice you receivedm How about starting to power down, and delegate the rest? That way you can slowly let this account fade, as you promote the new one. The biggest hurdle I think will be building up your followers again. Use this account to promote and resteem the new account. Every time this account makes profit, send it to the other account. Eventually when your new account surpasses this one, you won't need to delegate, and can consider closing this account. Best luck in your endeavors. You can do it.

So - if I understand correctly - I initiate by powering down the first time and delegate the rest. I can give bak the delegated amount any time I choose? So After my initial powering down and delegating, I send back a part of the delegated SP back to my old acount, so I can power that down? Repeat this until everything is transfered? Did I get it right?

That's my theory. I've never had to do this before. I am working under the impression that you can move steem instantly, and delegate steem to whomever you want, and return it whenever you want. The only slow part is the powering down of SP from an account.

Comments whether good or bad do add up I think to the overall ranking score of a post. The Amount Of Rewards is often not equated to the rank of the post in the community feed as I see it. It is possible that resteems and upvotes along with comments play a heavy favorite. Reward dollars matter but I don't think they are weighted as much. I'm interested to see if you or someone else knows the exact formula for post rank.

I did not know that one could use blocktrade to create an account. I have used several services to create accounts but never even thought about blocktrades. Steem and Steemit is a beast. The more your learn the more you find out how much you need to learn.

@mike314-0005 Super useful content as always. Thank you!

To be honest, I don't care about the overall ranking of the post.I'm just plain sick of all those people not caring about anything but the money. Spam posts, comments being made, proving that the post hasn't been read and the best part: those are still getting upvotes... I've really had it. Maybe I'm the stupid one, working my ass off trying to contribute something to the platform. I'm not saying I'm that good, just that at least i'm trying.
Sigh... maybe I should just not create that new account and leave SteemIt for what it is and focus on other things. Maybe it's best I leave for today and have a good night of sleep,...
Thanks for the (valuable) feedback

By the way, Blocktrades is offering a 'Buy Steem Account' feature. It'll cost you like $38 to create a new account.

But there is also a way to use SteemConnect - I used that one before, but I can't seem to find the "account-creation-fee' details on teemdb anymore

There's also AnonSteem, which will cost me like $41

And there is SteemIt Account Creator of which i don't know it's to trust

The downside to delegated Steem Power is that the one giving you the steem power gets the curation rewards for that power... So your old account would get the curation rewards. In theory if you had enough accounts that you had loaned steem power to and they had the lions share of your total upvotes on the post you could essentially get 100% of the rewards this way. If I were a whale I would try to spread my steem power around to as many people as possible especially promotion bots as this would be fairly healthy returns.

Unfortunately I'm not a whale yet :-)
I think the idea of @creativetruth might be a good idea. What do you think?

That is an excellent Idea.

I'm terrible at migration help. We do have a tool where you can message everyone and let them know about your new account. Maybe do it every hour for 7 hours...lol . Make sure they get the message and then resteem your new accounts posts with your old account for months maybe...

Thanks. I dind't even think of resteeming my posts with my old account.
Great tip

Thanks a lot for sharing ...... i like this post my dear....
all the best....

Thanks, but if I may give you a tip: this is not the kind of comment that's going to make you money (although some one gave it an upvote for a very unknown reason). If you want to improve your SteemIt experience and learn how to write valuable comments that will make you some good money, I suggest taking a look at this article: https://steemit.com/steemit/@cerebralace/how-to-write-a-high-quality-comment

steemit is best as i know......
blockchain is the electric way to make money i think
good activity
just carry on dear

Thanks for your comment, but to be honest, this is not how commenting on SteemIt is done. I don't know why on earth @ulfah gave you a vote... If you want to learn how to make good comments that will earn you real money, I suggest reading this article: https://steemit.com/steemit/@cerebralace/how-to-write-a-high-quality-comment

@ulfa, you have a reputation score of 46... you should know better than to waste your time on leaving low-quality comments that are definitely not going to make you any money. You'll find some good tips in this article: https://steemit.com/steemit/@cerebralace/how-to-write-a-high-quality-comment

And now you're upvoting other low-quality comments too. What are you trying to achieve?

Moving is never easy, my suggestion would be to make a note into the profile of the old account pointing to the new, continue posting off the 1st account with motivational quotes and the likes.

Secondly I would make a footer where you can mention your new profile name for a few months and try migrate followers to the new by letting them know where the new profile is.

Do similar with the new profile to cross link and then decide the next step.

Moving the SBD or Steem would most probably be easiest to transfer directly from one account to the other.

Steem Power movement is a balancing act since under 500 you don't have slider for posting, you have to wait 7 days to remove delegation. Perhaps research further before starting the SP move and good luck.

That is quite a dilemma and I agree that whatever you decide to do, you need to do it quickly. I sure wish I could help, but I have no suggestions to offer because I am not knowledgeable on this subject. Wishing you all the best.
