Steemimages top five: Week seven: Goldenhour photography
This weeks selection of photographs is up and made by real live human curators. This week @steemimages has been looking for #goldenhourphotography and we found some really great content from steemians from all over the world. Most of these photos are still avaiable for voting on, so please do go along and give them some support.
The criteria for golden hour photography is pretty simple as we explained last week:-
Golden hour photography is the time of day usually 1 - 2 hours before the sun is about rise or set. You need to be up early to get the best quality light for your morning photography or you can go for the early evening sun as it sets.
If you include some form of structures in the image it helps with composition.
The following votes and resteems were cast in relation to upvotes, engagement which we are happy to report is up as well as resteems.

In first place with 4 upvotes and 4 resteems of content was @oldmans with a great set of images and two replies in the comments which also got 2 upvotes.
In second place with 5 upvotes and resteems we have the latest post from @anthonywong from @teammalasia with this fantastic sunset at the sea side. It's is just 19 hours old at time of posting this blog so you can still go and give him some support.
In third place with 5 upvotes. Two upvotes for his content and 3 upvotes for comments we have @astrophoto.kevin's beautiful and dramatic cloudy sunset that he captured on his @actifit training session.
In forth place we have @steven-patrick with four upvotes and resteems with some stunning images from his trip to the desert outside of Las Vegas.
In fifth place we have @sunsethunter with four upvotes and resteems of his trip to New Zealand and this photograph that literally left him full of wonder. It is a spectacular view of Queenstown.
I hope that you will agree that these images above are quite exceptional and worth your time and attention. @steemimages doesn't follow any accounts and we don't play favorites. The content is the most important point.
This is not a competition as such but we thought you might like to know who got the most upvotes from @steemimages this week. The data can all be checked for accuracy on steemworld. Every post that gets upvoted also gets resteemed.

Tips!
There were many good images that would have been seen by more people if they had been tagged correctly. Using the most appropriate tags for your photogrpahs will increase the number of views and potential upvotes that you get from people interested in that topic.
Many images that didn't make the cut could have been much improved and better from a compostional point of view if they had been cropped in tighter to the subject of the photos.
We have a very simple task on Steemit and the other steem based apps. To find the very best content and reward it. What is good content is of course impossible to quantify as it is totally subjective. Our voting criteria is quite simple.
The criteria that is most important to @steemimages is image quality(IQ). Images that are sharp and with high resolution, unless the intention is to use some form of bokeh i.e. the visual quality of the out-of-focus area of a photograph.
Many posts had just a few votes and some posts had no votes at all. We hope that our upvotes and resteems will encourage you to keep posting and get more eyeball on your photos.

It always a good idea to ask yourself why you took a particular shot? What was it about that image that attracted your interest?

Selfies or self portraits are not a new idea as artists have been making self portraits for as long as there has been paint. To get the best image quality you need good light or lighting for your self portrait photography (selfie)
As well as the lighting, the angle that you take the selfie from is very important if you are trying to get a flattering shot of yourself and many of you know that you have to photograph yourself from above. i.e. raising your arm up with your camera/phone elevated as this gets rid of that double chin; if you have one.
Some purists would say that a straight on shot is more of a 'real' representation of the self.
@steemimages is not going to get into the thorny issue of what lies behind the concept of the selfie. We are just interested in the image quality (IQ)

I know I still have a lot to learn about photography (life long process). It really feels great to be creating and learning and getting some recognition/appreciation along the way. Of course now the bar's been raised and I'll have to work that much harder. :)

I'm so unphotogenic. That's why I let it with the selfies, not that I'm get flagged :-D
But I will look at your resteems :-)
Ha ha you can take a portrait of someone else if you are so un-photogenic.
Some of the best photos we have found so far in terms of image quality (IQ) are not selfies but mostly portraits of models or of people in public spaces or street photos. Events like Cosplay are a target rich environment etc. :-)
Since I live in Germany and it is very strict here with copyright and right to my own picture, I would only be able to publish photos of people who are recognizable on the photos, if I have their declaration of consent.
From next week on there will definitely be something on it which I can also participate in. :-)
