What does STEEM mean to me?

in #steem6 years ago

My STEEM journey began in June 2017 during a difficult time in my life. After deciding not to renew my work contract in Indonesia, my family and I were forced to face a new type of reality in our lives.

We experienced extreme grief because we left a place that had become "home," and we had to say goodbye to friends that had become family. I experienced extreme guilt for not being able to provide for my family, and I started down the rabbit hole of depression.

STEEM became apart of my therapy.

STEEM was not the end-all fix for the hurt and fear that I was facing, but it has played an important role in my life as ...

  • I was looking for an opportunity to express the feelings I was experiencing
  • I was searching for a way to provide for my family, both short-term and long-term
  • I was trying to re-establish my professional identity and be apart of something that created long-term value

So for me, STEEM has become a symbol of personal expression and an opportunity to create a better future, for my family and others who I have interacted with over the course of the last 8 months.

I desire to have a well-balanced life. I do not eat, drink, and breathe STEEM, but it has become an important outlet for me to express my hurts and frustrations, my goals and dreams, as well as my creativity. For me, STEEM represents freedom to express myself, freedom to share, and freedom to serve others.

I have used STEEM to serve others.

We all gather at the table called life with different needs in our lives. I appreciate that STEEM has given me the opportunity to ...

  • comfort people who are in need
  • provide advice for those who are seeking answers
  • teach and train based on the knowledge and life experience I have accumulated
  • support worthy causes and community efforts.

One of my favorite contributions to our community is my online course that teaches Steemit users Markdown language. I have always enjoyed finding those moments where technology and education collide.

STEEM is what you (we) make of it.

STEEM rewards building relationships, quality content, and hard work. As a community, we have a chance to make a difference. We can serve ourselves or we can serve others. We can live with an abundance mindset or a scarcity mindset. We can act in freedom or in fear.

So what does STEEM mean to you? I would love to hear from you in the comments section.

This article could possibly change mindset of people to positive way, at least for me, it always difficult to transform ourselves from one comfortable life to other fresh start. But what I believe is "it will work as long as we have patient to do so". Every single one of course has their own reason to be involved on this platform, so do I @sumatranate. I did joint this for a reason looking for a boost for my life. kinda hope, to express myself at some point, and looking for opportunity to earn something from it. and making a good friendship is also good thing. I wish you get more closer to your dream buddy. keep spirit!!

Thanks for the kind words. I hope that you will reach your goals as well. I appreciate how you are writing authentic comments. I can see that you are reading my posts.

Semoga sukses sahabat Indonesia!

So what does STEEM mean to you?

I've never been this involved in an investment before. You buy a stock and it sits, maybe get some dividends, but there is little to no involvement.

But this STEEM 'investment' is something amazing. I've met so many amazing people on Steemit, I've been encouraged here and I've had the opportunity to encourage others. Being able to show appreciation for well-thought out posts and comments with an upvote that is actually WORTH something is unlike anything else I've experienced online. Being a part of a positive environment has encouraged me to interact and learn from others. @ironshield

@ironshield, I agree with you about the depth of investment that Steemit has become for me. The community, the interaction, and the opportunity to be better is a great reason to become invested here.

I wish you the best as you continue to pursue this investment opportunity.

I started down the rabbit hole of depression

I understand this one all too well. To know that making use of Steemit has been beneficial to you in this area is reassuring. I also have found Steemit a godsend for lifting me when moods sink. Even if I am not in the mood to communicate, just writing and reading people's comments is inspiring.

There are some great communities here, and being a part of those is what keeps me coming back to Steemit. That and the fact that I enjoy writing, and reading other people's work.

@naquoya, your statement about being apart of communities keeps you coming back is important.

Many of us joined Steemit for the possibility of earning money. But most of us have stayed because of the communities we are a part of and the relationships we have built.

Thanks for adding to the conversation.

Your post sums up all what is Steemit to me. I can relate to it. More or less we have the same reasons why we are here. Outlet is the apt word for Steemit, outlet to express yourself, to learn something new or even rekindle what was once old, to earn, to do something that we never thought we can do and to have friends even if it meant through online only.

Outlet indeed summarizes this idea. You summed it up very well friend!

Hey, it's Smriti. Your article is a good one. I must say not everybody knows how to write blogs and make them look professional. Being a law student I always look for data points like charts, analysis in articles. Yours seems to give justice to the topic. My personal style includes a lot of graphs, numbers and informative videos. I write on
