Can we get a definitive list of the top 100 human commentators on the Steem blockchain in 2018?
I've started, but I'm going to need a bit of help over the next few days to get the list below in order. If you give a monkeys that is :D
Today's crazy plan was to produce a list of the top 100 human commentators of 2018. When I saw the initial data presented, I knew this was going to be a pain in the ass.
The top 100+ accounts are a mixture of bid-bots, resteem services, spammers, 'helpful' bots, and various other community-based auto replies. What I wanted to show was a list of 100 accounts that have written all their replies/comments individually.
Three hours or so later, I've got a list below which generally represents what i'm aiming for. I've removed upwards of 250 accounts already, and think the list is in a reasonable state. But, if you wish to help me produce a definitive list, then some assistance in checking profiles and comments would be awesome.
3.4 million - say what now?!
This is the total number of characters @glenalbrethsen has added to the Steem blockchain in replies and comments since the beginning of the year. Quite amazing really!
In the top 10 are at least 5 top performers in the Engagement League. This is why you deserve much credit and prizes (via @curie) each week!
If you are listed below, but not entered in the post/link above, I suggest you put your name down.

Happy with the list?
Want to help make it better? If so, visit an account you are unsure about, have a scroll through their comments feed, and let me know in the comments below if i should remove them from the list and recompile.
I'll keep working on the post with updated accounts/numbers for the next few days, depending on the response.
Again, well done to the blockchain greasers above - Your engagement is very much appreciated!
Cheers

Wow... this is an ambitious challenge!
If I were in your shoes, I'd be building a list (with community help) of maybe 200 "likely suspects" with an eye towards creating the definitive top 100 for the WHOLE year 2018, on January 1st. I'm saying that because this looks like a massive data mining project.
It's too bad SteemWhales isn't running anymore... that would have helped with some rankings. I wish someone would take that over and revive it.
I'm missing some fairly prolific contributors from this list, but that's more of a gut feel, and it could just be that they haven't been as active specifically in 2018: @krnel, @surfermarly, @steevc, @papa-pepper, @meesterboom, @gringalicious, @karenmckersie, @jaynie and even myself are fairly prolific commenters... those are just lifted off my own last few 100 comments/comments received and are on my regular "trails." Oh, and @mammasitta and @richq11.
But maybe this really invites TWO lists... number of comments by a human and length of comments by a human.
Anyway, it'll be cool to see how this unfolds!
I could go for a yearly one I'm sure, quantity of characters and comments.
Of the names you've mentioned, none of those have been filtered out so perhaps they would appear in a number of
Comments list. Based on what I've seen here in the data this past year though, comment quantity seem to show less well with regards to engagement than comment length.
As per my reply to @glenalbrethen, the holy grail is a solution to measuring 'quality of comment'. Hats off whoever comes up with a solution to the subjective 😊
@denmarkguy omg!!! I failed the test...lol :( goes to sulk
I think @abh13245 rigged this :P
Clearly SA's need to work that little bit harder :P
GASP!!!!! Oh the HORROR!
Clearly, you're not working hard enough @jaynie.... :P
Seriously, though... you run so MANY accounts, so your love is very spread out, rather than concentrated.
LOL @denmarkguy... I sound like a mix-a-drink hahahahahaha!!!! MWAH!!!
An update today has unveiled yourself and some of the names mentioned above :)
I think I'm close to a definitive 100!
Oh, and @lukestokes and @freebornangel; I'm glad to see their names there, as well... for sure, though, this is a VERY large project.
It occurred to me that there's probably a whole other group out there: People who run various (usually curation) initiatives under their own account... so they have a blend of their own "hand made" comments and "copied" comments posted in service of their programs.
Nice one @bashadow @eaglespirit and @apolymask! Way to represent @IFC! :D
Damn straight!
Woot. ._. 3 IFC people in the top 100? That's cool.
Also simplymike and a few others who are associated in other ways, like davemccoy helping us in numerous areas and dynamicgreentk who is connected to the marketplace.. So..In a sense you could almost say 6 people. Plus abh12345 is a witness that helps sponsor us.. So.. Perhaps 7 people there who are connected in some way, BUT.. The 3 you mentioned are definitely more prominent in the IFC scene.
Great work!
Lots of Engagement league folk in here too, pretty proud!
I think @janton and @glenalbrethsen are bots. They are not normal lol.
They are androids and never need to sleep
I wish it were so. Unfortunately, it sounds like I'm giving up prime time commenting time by sleeping my 6.5 to 7.5 hours a night.
my deal is, I say a lot in one comment. janton says a lot over the course of 20 comments. Actually, he makes you say a lot over the course of 20 comments, too. :)
@glenalbrethsen, I think you just identified the core of @janton's profilic comments: He turns every initial comment into a long "conversation."
I'm a cat. I sleep 16 hours a day... hence I have no chance of ever catching up to you guys!
=^..^=
Hey @curatorcat!
There are others in the league who have been doing similarly. It's just when you essentially double or more the next highest amount of comments, not to mention replies, you're going to generate a bunch of CL. He knows how to keep a conversation going, and he does it on multiple fronts.
I'd say don't sleep so much, but it's in your nature, and I won't ask you to go against nature. It just means the paws and fur have to fly faster when you're awake. :)
lol glen. you're funnier than you look!
hey @curatorcat..you should appreciate the fact that I'm curious. what
do they say.."curiosity killed the cat?" lol.
I know that feeling, @glenalbrethsen (yay! First time I spelled your name right without peeking, lol)
When I was at the top of my game a couple of months ago, I also felt like sleeping got in the way of commenting, especially because 90% of the other Steemians is awake when I'm asleep and the other way around :0)
I think most of the people I end up commenting with are mostly spread over three different continents—North American, European and Australian. That's a lot of hours to keep track of people. It's 8 hours for England and gets worse from there.
There are some folks in Indonesia or thereabouts, too, and some other parts in between. I can't keep track of it all.
If it weren't for the fact that we like to comment as if we were texting or messaging, to keep things going, rather than picking up the conversation in fits and starts, this 8-10 hour time zone differences would be great. :)
If you managed to spell my name right without any aid whatsoever, that is a major accomplishment. You deserve to celebrate. :)
Keeping conversations going would be a lot easier if we would all live in the same timezone. But we've got to work with what we've got.
When posting, there are upsides and downsides to living in a different time zone. I'm still not sure whether there are more up- or downsides, but I can't do anything about it.
And you can be sure I'm celebrating, lol. It only took me about 4 months, hahaha
but Glen you have so many important things to say that I just gotta get it out of you!
It's probably more like you have important information you want out of me, that I may or may not know. :) And I acknowledge I'm not your only source, which is actually good. It's better to get more than one side or pick more than one person's brain.
plus I just like to hear your thoughts!
And I give them to you. It's nice to have someone want to know what I think, so I just give them up. :) I more often get told what to think rather than asked what I'm thinking. Or, I get told what I'm thinking is wrong. Or, I get told what I'm thinking without me getting a chance to say what i'm thinking. That's usually how it works. :)
hahaha! you're pretty dang funny sometimes Glen!
well I can't speak for Glen but I occasionally take a nap!
hahaha :D
haha!
I. resemble. that. remark. :)
Actually, I fully and completely agree with the 'not normal' assessment as far as I'm concerned. However, I could only wish for the 24/7, never tired, never needing to refuel characteristics of a bot.
lol! who wants to be normal @cryptoandcoffee ?
Cool! I didn't expect to be in the list - because of me being lazy these last two or three months - but there I was, lol.
It's about time to become more active again, if I would only be able to find the energy and inspiration. I should take out my laptop again, because I'll never get any higher up in the list if I keep using only my phone - even though I got myself a new one, my typing speed is still extremely low.
Great initiative, @abh12345. I can imagine it is one hell of a job to filter everything out. I always wonder where you can find the time to do these kinds of things. Do you take your computer over to the beach and work from there? ;0)
Congratulations for making the list! And it just shows how not lazy you were the other three or so months.
Why aren't you on the laptop? What's wrong with your energy? Inspiration I get. I missed a post today because I couldn't come up with something. I blame the heat, though. I hope all is all well and that you get back to wherever it is you want to be as far as STEEM goes. :)
Thanks.
It's true, I've been quite a busy bee during the first months of the year, lol.
I'm using the laptop every once in a while, but it's still not very convenient. Although my back is slowly getting better (started physiotherapy yesterday), it appears I'm now suffering from Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction, caused by the fact that I have been using the wrong body poses to avoid my back pain for so long. Pffft, it's almost as painful as the hernia itself :0(
Not finding the energy is more of a mental issue. Not only am I so sick and tired of being tied to my bed for so long, I also have a cat that is terminal ill, which is a heavy load for me to carry.
I was diagnosed with depression last December, and although I've come a long way, I can still feel it crawling under my skin. The 'escape into SteemIt' strategy doesn't seem to work as well as it did a couple of months ago.
And of course, probably the most important factor of all when it comes to energy and inspiration, is that I went cold turkey after years of being an amphetamine addict. Using it, you have all the energy and inspiration you need, even more than you can handle in a day, lol.
So I guess you can say I was using doping during those first months. If Steeming was a sport, I would probably be disqualified, hahaha...
And I can totally understand how the heat can affect your thoughts. We're like melting here. For weeks it has been too hot to even move, lol.
Reading other people's comments, it seems to be a worldwide phenomenon...
It does seem like it's been warm all over, except maybe in the southern hemisphere. Haven't seen any of the Australians complaining about the winter heat wave. :)
Wow. Cold turkey. That's amazing. I hope you're feeling better for it, though, even though there's other things that aren't that great going on. It seems like life can be that way. It compounds before it relents. I wish you well, though, with kicking the habit.
I think there's at least enough marijuana smoking going on that the rules for doping on Steemit would be somewhat lax. :)
Okay, so this SPD is totally completely unfair! So, is the physiotherapy for that? The hernia? Both?
I'm sorry about your cat. I know they can mean a lot, just like family. My sister has had a couple of cats and it's never been easy for her when they pass away. I think she's found some comfort in knowing they're no longer suffering, though. That doesn't mean she doesn't miss them, of course.
Well, dang it, things just need to improve for you. It's been enough. Tell whoever I said so. :)
I will!
Thanks for being you: you are always so understanding. I really appreciate that!
The physiotherapy is originally for the hernia, but it will be beneficial for the SPD too. At least, I hope it will be.
The only positive thing is that the chance that things will get even worse gets pretty small. Except for the cat. We just decided to let him go tomorrow. It is time... I don't want him to get worse, only because I'm too selfish to not want to give up on him. It's one of the most difficult decisions I ever had to make, but there is no way to escape from it. 😭
Just for the record: it appears to be 30° in South-Africa, even though it is winter over there. The planet is really going crazy.
Can you believe I've never even come across @janton? Or at least, for as far as I can remember.
I guess it's time to get myself a new friend that can keep conversations going, lol
howdy from Texas @simplymike! well you've never come across me because I'm a rather shy and illusive introvert! lol. anytime you want to talk all night to boost your participation just give me a holler!
For some reason, that's a little hard to believe, lol.
Just checked out your blog earlier, so I know where to find you ;0)
no I'm sorry @simplymike but you mentioned me first so you are already hopelessly caught and there's no escaping me now! sorry. lol.
I've seen you mentioned like dozens of times, in fact don't you have some kind of contest going on? yeah because a few weeks ago I recommended it to some newer people.
I hear glowing references about you so it's a pleasure to finally meet you.
God bless!
Nice to meet you too, @janton. Finally I bumped into the man behind the myth :0)
I'm not in a very talkative mood at the moment - I know you've read my post, so no need to explain why - but I'll definitely catch up with you later.
oh @simplymike, I so feel your pain and understand, no worries just do what you have to do and I'll be here whenever you want to talk.
Okay. Looks like janton's already rectifying the "never even come across" him issue. :) He's like a force of nature, a Texas twister.
Apparently, ;0)
Happy to see you there, even with being less active over the summer.
Honestly, I've spent days inside thinking/reading/data gathering/writing etc, it's a little sad really considering what's on my doorstep!
The plan is to work hard now, and hope it pays off further down the line. 🙏🏼 We will find out in time if this plan was a good one or not!
I do hope so :0)
What I would give to live so close to the beach...
But once the price of Steem (and other crypto) goes to the moon, you'll probably have all the time in the world, lol
That's the dream!
I'd like to do what @pharesim is doing. Buy a sweet looking van, find a girl, and hit the road.
Just another 435,000 SP to go 😂
Lol.
You do know you don't really need the girl to make that happen, right ;0P
I know I'm not totally rich or that famous but anything I see my name on @abh12345's post I feel I've been a success on my own level, glad I totally made this list and this stat is totally amazing, you've done a brilliant one really.
I feel the same way!!! I thought that I was only tagged in a comment! but then i came here and was surprised that I was in the actual post!!!! that's so awesome :)
Yeah I mean you can imagine myself too I was quite happy seeing this my name on the list, it meant a lot to me.
Well done @josediccus for making onto this esteemed list!
I can totally relate to that, @josediccus.
Seeing my name in one of Asher's lists always gives me a feeling of accomplishment :0)
Hey, fish thief! Happy to see you outside of COM. Asher does compile the best lists. I'm not always on there, and quite surprised I made it on this one, but I will take the win! Nice bumping into you again.
Hahahaha I think you will love meat stealing as much as I love fish hahahaha.
Yeah Asher here is a number geek you know I feel like a celebrity hahahaha you know your blog too has engagements as well and I'm following you, we'd make good friends
I've known Asher for nearly 7 months and I love his data (and friendship too). It is always nice to end up on his list. There are so many people on this list that I've never chatted with before. Time to meet other people outside my circle. I am sure we'd make good friends; we both seem to like COM. One interest in common already!
Hahahaha @beeyou at first didn't felt like I was funny but I began to make impact in COM and it's been amazing,
I won my first ever contest on steemit courtesy of @abh12345 you know? The rest they say is history😂😂😂😂.
I'm Joseph by the way 😁
I don't think I have a funny bone in me but COM pull out the comedic nature in us all 😂. Aww, that is awesome that your first contest is with Asher. It's always the first contest that we remember. My first contest win was 0.20 and I was doing a jig when I got that! I was lucky to see penny upvotes when I first started.
I'm Paula, nice to meet you Joseph. @beeyou is a team account but the guys have been MIA for some time. Plus, they both have their own accts now, so just me on here. :)
Wow so you're stuck with the account? Hahahaha I guess you're doing even just fine if you ask me, steemit is you know a platform we surprise ourselves by even putting up shows we dont know we're capable of, but then what do we know? I'm so glad to meet you though 😁😁😁
I've made many friends on here so guess I can say I'm happy to be stuck with this account! :)
Absolutely true about surprising ourselves. We try different things and find our identity. I'm having fun exploring, and earning some steem along the way isn't bad either.
OHH--saw you made a second entry to COM. I'll stop by tonight to read it. Glad to meet you as well Joseph!
Hahahaha I know how you feel I have somehow slacked off in terms of being in the engagement because of low energy but being in Asher's league always puts a smile on my face.
This comment was made from https://ulogs.org
Me too, I use to be significant, but however I'm still doing quite fair though, the league means a lot to me
Is @steemph.cebu just one person? All the posts seem to be a variation of each other i.e. a competition and then the results.
@baejin hasn't posted for 5 months and has all their posts greyed out and a reputation of 0.
Similar for @yota3, Not posted in 3 months. All greyed out. Only 10 posts. Spammy looking.
Will check some more tomorrow @abh12345 if I have time. 😊
Thanks Gillian!
I'll remove these and compile again soon :)
My pleasure @abh12345. As I said I'll try and take another look tomorrow. 😁
Are you still enjoying your lilo as well as compiling tables?
@abh12345, First of all i really want to appreciate your work because these kind of data really helps to dig those names who are striving hard day and night, not just for regards but we love to engage with people, learn from people, to teach newbies about the "Steem Blockchain".
And if we engage more inturn it's increasing the Steem Blockchain's Reputation because, more activities will increase the number of transactions and all these number will going to reflect on data locators like Blockactivity.
And i want to appreciate your efforts and efforts of @curie team for these kind of boosting initiatives, and for sure these kind of initiatives will inspire others to perform well in aspects.
Note:
@chireerocks is 2nd in your list but it's not included in the "Engagement League.
Wishing you an great day and stay blessed. 🙂
Hey, @chireerocks! We haven't met, but we seem to have the same propensity for CL building. :) Congratulations on the 3-plus million characters on the blockchain!
And, it appears, welcome to the Engagement league! :)
@glenalbrethsen, thank you so much for your kind and warm words and, congratulations for your 1st position and keep up the great work.
Wishing you an great day and stay blessed. 🙂
Do we have a new top 3 challenger? 😁
Well, based on 3 million CL and a large number of comments, I would say, yes, yes we do. :)
Not long until we find out :D
I actually added you to the list earlier because of your high placing here - why not be in line for additional rewards for the
Thanks for your comments, I hope to see you in the table on Sunday :)
Welcome and thank you so much. Stay blessed. 🙂
I am a commentator, and I am a human.
Just that I don't commentate on every post I look at.
I commentate when I feel like I can come up with a good enough comment.
But sometimes later I regret commenting that because it's actually a bad comment xD
(like this one)
Bahaha!
That made laugh, so all in all, a good comment!
Hey, @tsnaks! Believe it or not, that's my biggest problem. I don't feel I can leave a meaningful comment on the majority of the posts I see outside my feed, and many of those, too. Then, when I actually read the posts, I find I'm skipping the comment there, because I don't know what to add.
I guess I just end up making up for it on the ones where I feel I can comment. I'd rather just be able to read a post and comment, though. And read more posts like that.
As for your comment, I found it worthwhile. :)
Seriously, Glen is on a different league of his own lol! Hands down to you :D I still have to get to interact with most of those in the list above.
Kudos to you Asher for coming up with this list and for what you are doing with the engagement league.
Thanks, @leeart! I appreciate the kind words. I really enjoyed seeing this list and the accumulation of my time spent here. It made my evening, since I just barely stumbled upon it about half an hour ago or so.
And I agree with you about Asher, too. I'm where I am on this list because of Asher's engagement league.
Thanks Lee
I'm guessing that a sure fire way to get an E. league boost would be to interact without many of the above - seems you are likely to get a response and then some!
howdy @leeart! I couldn't agree with you more sir, Sir Glen is the King. we need to figure out to level the playing field. any ideas?
I was pleased to see my name on the list. It is the kind of list I am pleased to find myself on, without me needing to see it at the top. I just like knowing that I am one of those who care enough to comment and encourage others (except for the very few who make me angry)
:)
If I had been asked to provide some names, I would have chosen a few who do not appear on the list, which goes to show that 'subjective' opinions are never as useful as factual, analysed facts. What do I mean? For instance, @deliberator (in my eyes) seemed to be all over the platform, not only helping people, but also spearheading some charitable causes - some out of his own pocket.
That, I guess, brings us back to the argument about the quality of the comments. Unfortunately, that kind of judgement takes us back to the subjective classification once more.
Thanks for this useful list, as it means I have an indication of a few posters I should check up on.
Hi @arthur.grafo
Thanks for your comments, I'm glad you see the list as a indication on who could be worth checking out. I think the list is 95%+ correct now, with regards to human commentators, and so you shouldn't go far wrong in opening a discussion with any of these names.
I wonder if you'd be interested in joining the Engagement League, I'd be happy to add you to the list if you wish?

@abh12345
Thanks for the invite and I am flattered. I think I would enjoy taking part, but I do not think I should.
I suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. It is caused by repetitive action, such as typing, playing a guitar, working as a mechanic. I only fall under the first category. Sometimes I get carried away and post a few longer than usual comments and that night I have difficulty sleeping because of the pain.
Also, I find my memory is not so good anymore and I find my stamina weakening to the point where I need to take a break to nap for an hour halfway through my day (am 75 years old).
I foresee I will only be able to do less and less as time goes by - unless something drastic happens to change my life...like go to Russia for rejuvenation treatment :)
I have had some very generous offers since joining steemit, for instance, if I make certain posts, I'll get voted by the community, giving me an income which is better than I receive as a pension in S Africa, which is about US $125 pm. I had to turn them down - but turning you down costs me more, as I have a mania about wanting to help new posters, those I sense have talent and need help. Working with you would help me achieve that dream, but, I really cannot.
I can help, one at a time, posters I consider talented poets or authors of fiction (especially fantasy) - so if you find one you think I should help, please feel free to send me their link.
If I may, I would like to suggest someone who has talent, is a wonderful person and seems to have boundless energy. Why not invite @dreemsteem ?
hi again @arthur.grafo
I fully understand why you would not feel this a suitable under-taking, no hard feelings at all.
This comment alone shows me that you would do well, but it certainly sounds like it is not in your best interest to produce this length of comment, day in day out.
Hopefully @dreemsteem receives a notification of this offer and comments.
Thanks for your reply, have a great day :)
Hi there! Wow!!!! Thanks for the nod and for the list in the above post! I have been getting inundated with GINA notifications lately - and I didn't even see that this post had tagged me! I would have missed it altogether had @arthur.grafo not mentioned me in his comment :) (thanks Arthur!)
I've been insanely busy these past few weeks with juggling 2 temporary jobs - but they should clear up within the next two weeks! (hopefully???) hehehe
I will check out the post on the Engagement League! sounds intriguing!!!
Thank you @abh12345!!! What a fun little notification to get on my birthday! must have been meant to be! hehehehe
