New Assets for the Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles found its coveted number one receiver in Alshon Jeffery. Jeffery fits perfectly in Philly’s West Coast offense and can prosper in 50/50 ball situations. Eagles also snagged Torrey Smith — whom can still torch a defense every now and then. These assets mixed with the outstanding Carson Wentz, who has blossomed as a hot young talent, will get the Eagles flying again.

Carson Wentz

Wentz has been a pleasant surprise for Eagles’ fans given their recent turmoil behind center. By rookie standards, Wentz put together a masterful rookie season with 3,782 yds, 16 TDs while nursing a terrible supporting cast.

Despite 31 dropped passes — 2nd most in NFL — Wentz completed 62% of his passes. This is tremendous for the sophomore’s development as he looks to mesh with his new cast of serviceable options.

Running Backs

An interested stable of running backs has developed for the Eagles and we will see Wentz get his backs involved so he can open up the deep passing game. Veterans LeGarrette Blount, Darren Sproles, and Wendell Smallwood will be key in the development/safety of Wentz. If the offense can show strength in the run game, the passing game will open up for this fast-paced team.

Defense

The Eagles must keep progressing on defense if they want to give the offense some support and possessions off turnovers. Pass defense was about average (13th) in yards allowed at 3,832 yards. The defense gave up 25 passing TDs and posted 34 sacks. The Eagles were also average (15th) in rushing yards allowed with 1,652 yds. Look for this Eagles defense to improve as it has a talented defensive line with a decent secondary — liability is at cornerback.
