New York Jets – 2017-18 NFL Season Analysis

In 2015, The New York Jets finished 10-6, but failed to make the playoffs despite winning double digit games under first year Head Coach Todd Bowles. Things were looking bright for Gang Green, but last year the New York Jets took a step back after finishing the 2016 year 5-11. Now that training camp is here, most NFL experts are projecting the Jets to win 2-5 games this year. Here are some things you need to know for the Jets upcoming season.

Todd Bowles on the Hot Seat?

After finishing the 2015 season 10-6 (still missed the playoffs) many Jets fans were still optimistic about the football team. Todd Bowles became the Head Coach in 2015 after having a proven track record as a top minded defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals. Now he is in Year 3 for the New York Jets, the Jets need to show some improvement. If the Jets end up winning 2-3 games, I think they will let Bowles go.

Should the Jets Tank?

I wouldn’t say tanking, but I think the Jets should give former second round pick QB Christian Hackenberg a chance. Give him a shot, I mean if Christian fails miserably then I think the New York Jets will draft a quarterback early in the 2018 NFL Draft; especially if USC QB Sam Darnold, UCLA QB Josh Rosen, and Wyoming QB Josh Allen all enter the draft. IF Hackenberg shows some promise then the Jets will feel more optimistic about the QB situation.

Key Additions

For the ninth straight year, The New York Jets went defense with their first round selection. Drafting former LSU and All American Safety Jamal Adams with the 6th overall pick.
Other draft selections: S Marcus Maye, WR Ardarius Stewart, WR Chad Hansen, TE Jordan Leggett, DL Dylan Donahue, RB Elijah McGuire, CB Jeremy Clark, and CB Derrick Jones

Free Agent Pickups

CB Morris Claiborne
QB Josh McCown
DL Mike Pennel
WR Quinton Patton
RB Jordan Todman
WR Lucky Whitehead
DL Devon Still

Key Departures

WR Brandon Marshall
WR Eric Decker
C Nick Mangold

Biggest Strength: Defensive Line

The Jets have a strong defensive line, I would even say that this defensive line is defiantly top 3 in the league. TONS of talent across the board; DE Leonard Williams, NT Steve Mclendon, DE Muhammad Wilkerson, OLB/DE Sheldon Richardson. This D-Line will need to play even better if the Jets want to be competitive this year.

Players to Watch:

ILB Darren Lee
OLB Jordan Jenkins
WR Robby Anderson
RB Matt Forte
RB Bilal Powell

Prediction:

Jets will finish 4-12, will draft a QB next year
