Contradictory Vibrations (6)
We often don’t know what we want. Unclear desires often inform what we bring into our experience. If we want to be there but we also want to be here, we are setting ourselves up for a headache. We build tension between two conflicting desires. Sometimes these two things are not actually contradictory, but our belief that they are contradictory causes these two desires to pull us in two different direction.
There are two main reasons we don’t know what we want. The first is that we haven’t explored ourselves yet. We follow what we think we are supposed to do and be and aren’t deeply in touch with our true desires. This takes work to overcome but it’s a big topic so I will go into it another time. The other reason is that we don’t believe what we want is actually even possible. We justify working a job we don’t love because we don’t believe we can find a better one. We hang out with people who don’t really fulfill our desire for deep connection because we don’t know how to meet those who fit us better.
We think things need to be A or B and rarely allow for the possibility of C. If we focus upon the aspects which we like about A and B, sometimes we find there is a way to combine the two, or a third path opens up before us.
There are always unseen roads waiting to open up for us but it’s up to us to get into the right mindset to discover them.

A lot of our thoughts happen without us even realizing it and so that's how fear manifests. There's also that "Don't think of an elephant" thing. :-D

I can agree with this to a point. I also think that we are in touch with, at least, some of our desires though. Often these desires can go unrealised for the benefit of others. We sacrifice our desires for the happiness of the ones we share our lives with.
I don't see any need for sacrifice if we really follow our inspiration and trust that it can work out. We do end up sacrificing though because we lack the faith to live in a way that will lead to all the results we want, but that's ok. I've actually just finished working on a post about the difference between sacrifice and compromise, editing it now. Compromise can feel good and should be pursued, while sacrifice does not, that's one of the distinctions made.

That is the trap that a lot of people fall into. I spent years doing it myself in all sorts of different contexts.
I thought I was out of it but you are always kind of still into it as long as you need to hold yourself back from doing anything. I can say with certainty that I'm not so deep into it anymore, just a bit here and there.
