Sunday Soul Tap #4: Reckless Love

in #spirituality6 years ago

What kind of love do you give? What kind have you received?

In my culture, "love" is tossed around with little sense of urgency.

I love this hamburger.

I love hockey.

I love you (after a third date).

I'm not denying that those statements reflect real feelings. I'm highlighting them to show how vague and ambiguous this term "love" has become.

I've been told that certain languages, like Greek, have multiple words for the different uses of "love."

But every time I hear someone talk about this love it is always so orderly, precise, safe.

This morning I was thinking about the concept of reckless love.

Have you ever loved recklessly? Have you ever felt that love?

I'm not talking about codependent love or blind love or unthoughtful love.

I'm talking about love that holds nothing back

The kind of love that gives all lavishly without reservation. There is a sense of urgency to this love.

I love you and I will not stop pouring myself out for you until you know that.

I get glimpses of that with my kids and my wife, but my wounded self so often reverts back into a protected or conditional love. Sometimes wounding experiences require us to withdraw and dial in our vulnerability. In hurtful relationships, that is often the best thing you can do for yourself and the other person.

But I want you to ask yourself, how would The Divine love? If you imagine anything short of reckless and ravishing, ask yourself why that is? What are the qualities of God and what kind of love would flow from those qualities?

If you are able, let yourself sit in the presence of a pursuing love that is never ceasing. How does it feel to be the target of that love?

Meditate on that feeling today.

Until next time, be blessed.
~Sam

In case anyone is wondering, I do realize that I posted this on a Monday, contrary to what the title would have you believe. Haha. The post "originated" from my Sunday thoughts and I just had some trouble getting the post out last night.
