Steemit Ultra marathon – Test game, round three
The runners are bunched up a bit more tightly now, thanks to an unfortunate incident involving a ram. But the quick application of a BBQ seems to have sorted that out and now the competition is heating up.
@nathen007 holds a small lead over @cyoadventuregame and @kiwiscanfly but it is not all over for the big man. Changes are afoot that may see him get back into the race.
Sitting comfortably in the back of the pack, @len.george and @toofasteddie are running steadily and doing well to manage the damage. Remember, this is a long race and anything can happen.
Changes to the game engine
Today I made some changes to the game engine to make it possible to get back into the game if you overcook things and ruin your health, and to even out a few other bits and pieces. The changes are:
- Added the ability to choose to rest. If you choose to rest, you will travel forward 3kms. For each hour you rest (and it must be whole hours specified), your health damage is halved.
E.G. if your health damage adds up to 10 and you rest for 2 hours - you will move forward 3kms. Your damage will be divided by 2 for the first hour –( 10 / 2 = 5). It will then be divided by 2 for the second hour – (5 / 2 = 2.5). This should allow you to get back in the game if you get it horribly wrong, and still have a chance of winning.
I don’t want a player to max out their damage early on and then never have a chance of competing. It would make it not a lot of fun for them. So this will hopefully give them a reprieve, whilst not making it beneficial to run hard, rest for a turn then run hard again. If you did that, the others who are more careful and tailor their running to the course are likely to cover more distance.
- Added a tweak so that if you run a bit slower than the average ‘runable’ value for the distance you are covering, your health scores will improve slightly (or at least not be increased as much as they would have been). So this should allow for some more strategic running when you are trying to manage your damage.
- I have added a checker to the Weird Stuff Happens wild cards. Each card now has a ‘type’. Negative (you slow down, go backwards, take on fatigue, damage etc), Neutral (nothing bad or good happens) and Positive (your health improves, you get extra distance etc). you last wild card type is recorded so that you don’t get the same type twice in a row. This should hopefully solve the problem of getting multiple negative cards in a row, which would be very demoralising.
Any feedback on this would be welcomed.
Testers it’s that time again
Tell me:
- How fast you will go
- How long you will go
- How many gels you will consume
- And if you want to rest, how long you will rest for
You will have until 12 noon tomorrow NZ time to get your responses in.

Are you new to Steemit and trying to figure out what it's all about?
Head over to: https://www.steemithelp.net/. It's the best place to get a handle on what the platform is all about.
OK,
1 hours rest
1 hour running
9km/h
0 Gels
Oooo.... I hadn't figured on doing two things in one turn.
I'll try it out and see if it will work. ;-)
ahhhh ok, i was unclear. sorry :-)
No that's fine. I think I can actually do that. And it will be a good feature for the game to have. I just hadn't considered it when I built the game engine.
That's what testing is all about, so thanks for that ;-)
run/speed (8)
how long you will run (1)
will consume (1) gels
Thanks for that. It will be interesting to see how far you get. Your heath score is not the best at the moment. but with the tweaks I did this morning you might just recover a bit.
Run speed = 6
Time = 2 hrs
Gels = 2
Thanks. 1 more player to go and I can run this turn through the game machine and see how everyone does.
This should be interesting.
Run speed = 5
Time = 2 hrs
Gels = 2
Cool. Thanks for that. We'll see how well you catch the others up this time ;-)
Speed = 4.7
Time = 2
Gels = 0
Thanks for that, I'll post the results later on today.
thank you for wasting your time to produce a quality post, every one who visit your blog would be interested, best regards @yogaunimal Indonesia - Aceh, may we work together in steemit media, please support me, thank you very much
Thanks ;-)
Excellent work I liked it so much I wish I could continue your work on this as I will give you all the support I hope you will support me if possible Thank you for your time
@goldenkingdom
thanks for that ;-)
so the total time for each day is 2 hours ?
or does the rest get added to the time ?
the total time for each day is 2 hours. I've set this limit to stop people trying to do something like running for 20 hours and gaming the system.
Do you think I should change that?
no, i think its right being fixed at 2 hours, which is why i posted a combo of 1 hour running and 1 hour rest :-)
Cool. Thanks for that ;-)
Every day is a good day when you run.
