The political representation of Muslims in India has fallen to just 34 members of parliament, the lowest since India's independence. However, those people that make life difficult for the minorities have in themselves a sense of paranoia, victim blaming and victimhood mentality. More than ever before.
It looks like the Hindu anxiety and insecurity increases with every increase in their muscle-flexing capability. Such paranoia is however not limited to India's majority community alone.
The white folk that harbor anti-migrant, anti-Muslim or racist sentiment in the US and Europe felt a sense of persecution from the non-whites, while the Muslims in Indonesia and Pakistan also felt a sense of having to trample their minorities as much as the Buddhists in Sri Lanka and Myanmar that want to trample their own victims. In each case, the majority believes it is oppressed by minorities.
These days the radicalized Hindus can lynch someone and get away with their crime. The minorities that occupied the lowest rung of the social and economic ladder will not and do not have that same power to lynch the Hindu upper caste at will. Facts are inconvenient for the oppressor, but the fact remains that since India's independence, the minorities hadn't felt the kind of fear that they now live in.

Since India's independence, the radicalized Hindus hadn't been empowered to brutalize others like they are now. Not even during the time of Atal Bihari Vajpayee (10th Prime Minister of India and icon of pro-Hindu party, the BJP). With increasing paranoia, impunity, and empowerment, the radicalized Hindus lynched their victims for fear of having to share a level playing field with them. Facts don't seem to matter to them. They just lied and lynched. This is the new normal.
