Galaxy Note 8 Impressions - Review

Smartphone Shopping

Three weeks ago my son and me purchased Galaxy Note 8 smartphones. I was in a predicament where my Moto X Pure Edition, after the last software update, began to prevent any and all image or file uploads with an error that the maximum ram was being used, making adding photos online impossible. I researched. So much for adding multimedia to Steemit articles.

The Nitty Gritty

I was/am reluctant to add to my debts, but with no working PC or laptop, the need to replace my device pushed me to visit our local AT&T store and review current smartphone options that my carrier supports and finances. We don't have liquid funds to make an outright purchase and add the phones to our current account. An upgrade was our only option if we wanted to replace our phones. His HTC 1M7 was beginning to exhibit some minor malfunctions, but is still operable.

Financial Decisions

We could have purchased less expensive devices, but the promotion to trade up for my phone was a $300 discount. The cost is broken into 30 monthly payments of $22 per month. My son's old device didn't have any trade in value, so he had to pay full price. The minimum to recieve a promotion was a $20 trade in value. My year old Moto X Pure Edition 16G purchased at $399 had a $47 trade in value qualifying me for a $300 discount.
The phones at $950 are not small investments. My device cost $650, plus $57 US sales tax, so I went home with a touch of angst regarding my new debt, but I hoped we made good choices.

Galaxy Note 8 Review

Three weeks in to using the devices, we both love our new Galaxy Note 8s! The myriad options available for creating art, writing (S Pen) photography (Pro settings available) and music, in addition to the organizational options Galaxy Note 8 comes with such as integrated Bixby assistant, (similar to, but in my opinion, surpassing Apple's Siri) enabling exploration of all the device offers, has fully impressed me.

Options Galore!

Last week I discovered the motion photo settings. I'd seen this option previously on my best friend's newer Apple iPhone and I previously was unaware of this option on smartphone

Motion Photos

Here are two motion photos that I captured this week on my lunch walk during a windy fall day in the courtyard near work in Erie, Pennsylvania. Most of the potted flowers are dying with the fall chill coming and going. The sturdy blooms have withstood where their fellows have withered and died. I hope you enjoy the captures.

This is a still photograph of the pink flower. The photo quality is wonderful for a phone.

This is by no means an exhaustive review and I am still learning daily. If you have questions about the Galaxy Note 8, I'll be happy to answer if I am able, and if you own one and can share tips with me, I'd love the feedback!

Thanks for reading!

The photo quality on phones is improving so much! They'll probably never equal is dslr, but they are getting pretty close

I'm really happy with it since a dslr isn't anywhere in my budget! Thank you for stopping by, @sunravelme!

I like the fact that the camera has both the wide angle and a telephoto. that's very impressive. I've had a Samsung before, but it was a slightly cheaper model and I wasn't very impressed. It glitched all the time and I was very frustrated with that.
I had the opportunity to get an apple iphone at a deep discount, and I don't know that I would ever go back to normal phone now after using the iphone because I don't trust the quality that you get on other phones for the price you pay in comparison . I also hate phone plans and the big name companies that try to hook you into them. It's just so much unnecessary - a total turn off.

However I am happy that you like your new phone. Congratulations!

Thank you for sharing your experiences with Samsung. I hope this one doesn't let me down. We purchased insurance on them for the price. God forbid we break or damage them! I had the iPhone 3 & 3G and I liked them but last time I couldn't see spending that money... now I'm up to my eyballs in debt, but I do like it so far!

yeah the iphones are a hefty investment but so far its lasted me way longer (2 years) than i got out of my samsung (about 6 months before i gave up) and my LG (about 3 months-pathetic). I've heard the Galaxy is a really good model. Only reason i went iphone is that I was doing tech support on it, so I havent had to struggle with the tech, and I really liked the camera specs. damned silly reason i know but :)

Great Note 8 Write up. Seems to be a phone with impressive photographic qualities.
Anything negative that you discovered in the first 3 weeks? My daughter has a Nexus 5x which I’ve considered replacing.

Hi, @danielsaori, I think that Bixby is not always reliable, she relies on your connection. When that happens I reboot my phone. Sometimes the edge gets in the way of selecting things that you need to.
Otherwise, the battery life is phenomenal, the internal storage space is great and expandable. The sound for a phone is really good, too. As discussed in the article, photographs are excellent.

I really like the Samsung battery optimizer function. All in all, I would do the same thing again and purchase the Galaxy note 8!

Good photos

Looks like a great phone! Congrats! Wanted the note 8 too, but I had to opt for the Samsung A7 instead due to a budget restriction ;)
