AMERICAN GODS JUST BLEW MY DOORS OFFsteemCreated with Sketch.

Yesterday we sat down and watched episode one of the new American Gods TV series. We've been anticipating it for a while, but I was a bit uncertain that it was going to be possible for any TV show to capture the brilliance of Neil Gamain's astonishing book.

Right from the opening credits I got the feeling that this one totally got it. There is only one other time that I can remember watching anything that had this much visual impact, and that was the first time I saw The Matrix, 18 years ago.

The photography is breathtaking, the acting is bang on, the violence is really gory, and even just dipping the end of a fountain pen into some ink is totally graphic. Watching it all looks something like what I was imagining the first time I read the book, but much more amazing.

On occasion I've said that I think the age of rock music lasted 30 years from 1968 to 1998, and now the age of rock music is over. Watching this episode I felt the same way I did when I first heard "Paul's Boutique" by The Beastie Boys (1989) or "London Calling" by The Clash (1980) - and I started thinking, maybe we live in a TV age now.

Anyway, that episode is burned across my brain, it blew my doors right off. A little voice in my head said "can they possibly follow that episode up with another one as good?", but then I remembered that yesterday that same voice was saying "how could anyone film American Gods?"

Must see, highly recommended, five stars, 10 out of 10, and all the other TV reviewer crap. I can't believe I've almost written a TV review... Here is a real one: https://www.wired.com/2017/05/american-gods-review/

MY WHOPPING GREAT STEEMIT SIGNATURE

Because sometimes I like to do short posts with pictures, art, photos, and funny stuff, and then there is bugger all in my post, I need a whopping great signature to put at the bottom of my short posts to give them some beef.

On my longer posts I’m really just including it to go on about myself, but what the hell, we all need to blow our own trumpet sometimes.

@sift666 is my Steemit alias. As 666 is the number following 665 and preceding 667, and I’m using the number here on my Steemit account, it might mean I’m a worshiper of Satan. Or it could indicate that I have troll tendencies I need to work out with myself.

My real name is Ian Gregson, aka wheels007. I’m a professional sifter from Wellington New Zealand. My interests include photography, conspiracies , web design, writing, nutrition, cryptocurrencies, art, design, philosophy, technology, anarchy, health, computers, humour/humor, gratuitous arse shots, and anything that makes my eyes bulge while I make squeaking sounds (except torture).

Back in the glory days of Steemit (August 2016), I once made $404 for a post and went on a three day bender. It took months to work off the after effects of the hangover and I’m still attempting to understand how that ever happened.

I’m currently developing a new website portal to rival Steemit called www.frot.co.nz where I’m testing out a new feature called “frottage” that may revolutionise blogging and create a global paradigm shift.

Photos and pictures labeled @sift666, www.sift.co.nz or www.frot.co.nz are my own creations, while pictures with no credits are sometimes ones I found in my image collection and have no idea where they originally came from, or might be my own photos that I haven't put a signature on.

Otherwise, due to pressure to conform, I’m having a crack at including an image credit beneath each picture I copy off the internet. I do have opinions on this subject, but am practicing putting a sock in it.

To tell the truth I often have no idea what I’m going to post next, but I will be sure to include pictures. If you are a person who prefers mainstream opinion, my posts may not be entirely your cup of tea. But if you like to dwell on the wild fringes of conspiracy theory, or you are a whale with a massive blowhole, you might like to follow me on Steemit. It would be great to have you on board.

Sort:

So far, very true to the book. I had a few gripes about the first episode and the second but they seem to have dialed down those issues (the music in episode one was good but incessant and -way- too many extended shots of candles and water dripping and nonsense in episode two. By episode three it looks like they've backed off those things in favor of story.) Definitely worth a watch.

That's good to hear - we are going to be watching episode 3 tonight. I think it's absolutely awesome.

And that image reminds me - the casting so far, with every part, is phenomenal!

I'm glad to hear such a great review! I'm also eager to watch it, but was worried it wouldn't live up to the book. Thanks for putting my mind at ease, I can't wait to see it now.

Never heard of it but you have sparked an interest @sift666!

I'll check it out thanks
