Eagle Falls, Lake Tahoe Photo Adventure, And A Bit Of How-To (video)

in #photography6 years ago

Yesterday I had the pleasure of photographing Eagle Falls, above Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe. It was a gamble, the clouds were thick when I headed there but the weather forecast said they were supposed to clear out a bit right around sunset. The weather forecasts in the mountains are often wrong...

In this video, I take you along on this little photo adventure, I tried to keep this video short, not quite 5 minutes long. The falls were incredibly loud so I talked right into my microphone to try to fight the noise. Sorry for any sound issues on this one...

I had arrived at the falls fairly early so I decided to hike down below the falls to see what I could see. The water was raging and I ended up with a decent long exposure photo of the falls (the keeper photos are shown in the video this time). After drying off from the misty spray, I went back to the top of the falls for the shot I had in mind. This is a great time of year to shoot waterfalls in the Lake Tahoe area as the snow is melting fast, feeding the rivers and the streams with an abundance of water.

I plan on posting another blog with the keeper photos in it, I'll talk more about the settings and gear I used in that post. Recently, I posted a video about the importance of accepting failure as a landscape photographer (HERE) and I was concerned that I was going to once again, have to accept failure. Thank you Mother Nature for not letting me down this time, it was an incredible sunset!

Thank you for looking, watching, and reading!

@scottshots Great photos!

Thank you @thetruth36! Much appreciated! I hope things are going great for you bud.

OMG Scott!! This was amazing! Such beautiful scene, loved that waterfall! You definitely know how to serve us your A-game!!
Love.Love.

Glad you love it @elsiekjay! It's a pretty amazing spot for sure. I'll keep the A-game posts coming... Cheers!

I love that place! My wife and I visited a few years ago and did day hikes around the rim trail, PCT, and the Desolation Wilderness. If you haven’t already, check out Echo Lakes. It’s a great jumping off point for some of the other mountain lakes of that region.

I love this place too @dabeckster! And yes, I know Echo Lakes well. Lake Aloha, a little bit higher is one of my favorite lakes in the region. Desolation Wilderness is so much fun to backpack and I hope to get out there again this summer... Cool post you shared, thank you. Cheers!

Nice indeed!! Lol about everyone clearing out, clearly they were there for different reasons!

Thank you! Yeah, I guess it was dinner time or something. They got their selfies and were out!

Just not as dedicated... ; )

I love how when you swung the camera around there were a lot of people - lol! Love your roving reporter style video! You have a new sub in me and I'm going to check out your other vids. Look forward towards seeing what you've got coming soon!

Greetings from Boston!

Thank you @mikeycolon from Boston! I'm stoked you liked the video and the style. I have a lot of ideas for more vids... So many beautiful areas to share up here. Cheers!

I looked up Lake Tahoe - and oh man - am I jealous! When's the best time to go? Winter, spring or summer? It's now on my radar to take a photo trip there.

So, it really depends on what you're after. I like all the seasons but late spring/early summer is my favorite. Great time of year for wildflowers. The snow is a lot of fun to shoot up here as well. And we don't get tons of fall colors but we do get really nice little pockets of colorful aspens. Here's my Tahoe area photos on my site if you want to see more. Let me know if you make it up here and I'll go shooting with you!
