By the clothes, I would say at one time a very hard working man. Has fallen on harder times as the years go by, which is not unusual once we fall out of the hard-work force. Watch cap suggests steel worker or dock worker, possibly a union stevedore.

Still, the clothes are not threadbare and worn, so he is doing alright, and his satchel is nice, and waterproof, suggesting more than just lunch as it's contents, and us such, too heavy to carry on the shoulder. (Possibly and older-model laptop?)

My guess... several old injuries to shoulder or rotator cuff, due to the jarring nature and incredible body load these labour jobs provide, have taken a heavy toll on the mans back and upper torso. Thus, looping us back once more to the Steelwork idea as his chosen profession, as back difficulties arise often from the carrying of #7 beams on the shoulder area. Probably in this line of work for many years.

Cannot see left hand, as it is covered, so no clue as to marital status, though IF he has a spouse, she/he chooses to not help him hem his pants, or he hides them from the other of significance, because he likes the 'over the shoe' look they provide. (Though you could have reversed the image, to throw us off, but the ATM sign behind looks correct, so I think not. )
Otherwise, except for three cats, one a lighter long-hair, the other two darker short hair, I have absolutely no idea...

I read all his namesake's books when much shorter. If only I had half the skills.

Hah :) Btw, everytime I see the male actor, I can only think of Hackers.

Whoa! Monk, is that you posting? :D

Ok, I'll get into it too! There are no steelworks around here, but there are docks, indeed. But why would a docker carry this huge bag to work?

His coat is not the proper size - so either given to him by a company, or a relative who is a bigger man, because he can't afford one.

Also, "ATM" should look the same mirrored or not, right?

Haha, you've got my upvote, this is fun :)

I can see some of your points, and defer such to the gentleman sleuth across wide seas, yet raise you on a couple of points:
The large coat does make sense, I'm voting the relative as the givee, as there is no evidence of work damage on the sleeves. No worker in his right stead would give away his best coat. A relative, yes. Well played. The affordability would be true as well, as he is no longer employed at the docks.

But the bag..that has to be his computer. He is no longer gainfully employed, but has heard of Steemit through kids on the street, and is now hoping to blog his way back to financial success. He will have to post a lot, if he wants to match his old stevedore wage, that's for sure.

As for the ATM, the lettering is the same..ATM and MTA, at first glance. However, in further perusal of standard Alfreda font, the preferred sign-lettering of the financial institutions world wide, shows thicker shading on the right, not left. Evidenced by the 'A'. Hence the image is not reversed. (I could only use ATM - MTA, as I have not mastered right to left mirror imaging on a computer yet).

Any ideas as to why his coat is only buttoned on one button? Maybe he had to run out this morning in a hurry. A dilly in his daily dalliance, and had to run out in haste?

Yes, this is fun, I think you've invented a new Steemit photo game. It would be classic, with your excellent street-side photo skills. Always been amazed at your ability to capture ever-brief moments in time, and very high quality at that.

I've never even considered that he could be on Steemit, how silly of me!

Ah, but the ATM sign is vertical, hence it should look identical if mirrored. But I don't hold such knowledge of bank preferences to fonts and shadows, so I shall not engage in further discussion on this topic.

His coat is buttoned so as he is slowly ascending the city's Main street and needs better ventilation to remain comfortable during his walk. But it could be that he is in a hurry - maybe to a second job? Or to catch the most active time on Steemit and post some valuable information about the docks?

Very nice post

Thanks!
