When acquiring a new skill practice and repetition are so vital, which is why I made four of the same model for this stop on the origami journey.
Back in December (2017) I completed the #alphabetartchallenge by @tonyr. For "O" I chose to make an origami octopus, and I can safely say that day was the beginning of the end -
the end of a life without origami!
After experiencing the frustration fun of making an origami octopus from a sheet of notebook paper, it was time to take the next steps on my origami journey. So I acquired a package of square sheets in 3 sizes and many colors with the mindset of
Fold them all! No mistakes, no worries!

Teenage Mutant Origami Turtles!!!! My late 80's childhood is creeping in hahaha. Dude all these little origami's are so cool.. i hella wanna see a shot with all of the ones you made so far together!!
TMOT, heroes on the half sheet! Oh, the group pic is coming. Hey you just gave me an idea for how to arrange them. Can you say diorama?!? Might be fun. No it will definitely be fun, who am I kidding?
BTW I started arting up that golden cactus bookmark you sent. I feel a little trepidation for fear of passing no return, but so far so good. I'm taking baby steps with it, got a tidy little grey ink wash border started. And you thought I forgot...

I am so proud of you! I have been popping balloons all day, I assumed it was much easier. I shall go back to origami!
Thanks for stopping by to see the turtles! I'm looking forward to seeing these balloons I keep hearing about. Did you blow them up with your breath or did you use an air compressor?
It's really nothing special! Just some fun craft to do, if you want to still working with your hands on delicate material, ballooning has a similar concept (but origami is so much more sofisticated)
I'm just following youtube tutorials to learn do balloon shapes, like this one!
I haven't posted anything yet, because so far all the balloons are popping. Using air compressor, of course!
Yes, balloon animals, I follow now. I was thinking of something way different in my mind for some reason. I think you're right, origami is the more sophisticated older sister of balloon art.

Do your fingers smell like latex after you're done twisting balloons? One more question, do the long skinny balloons sound different from normal balloons when they pop??
It would be cool to make a helium-filled balloon flower bouquet that could be used for decoration or as a prop in a photo. I could see you doing that, with a wig and costume.
Yeah, they are quite nice to see, I have been trying to make a snail withou success. So frustrating.
They smell the same. I am honestly struggling because I am doing oil painting and so many projects, but now that I have 60 balloons I wanna get it done and it will take some time. The long skinny balloon pop up with the same sound than the round one.
I have tried to make a flower but I broke it.

A balloon snail, that sounds unforgettable. Is that what your balloon project is for, being a clown? I could envision you as a clown in a modern circus.

These are awesome! I also like that shot at the halfway point. It's as if the doodle art serves as camouflage and fits with the doodle art of the unfinished turtles; it creates an artwork on itself.

Looks great! I especially like the fact you drew on them beforehand, that is a great touch. So you're saying that these square blocks of paper are actual origami paper? (shows how much I know about origami!) Must have been much easier to work with than your notebook paper, I would imagine.

That's right, each block is one square of origami paper. These are made from 4 1/2" squares (the package has 3 assorted sizes, 4 1/2", 5 7/8" and 8"), so these turtles are just babies. This paper is totally easier to fold than notebook paper - yes! Plus notebook paper leaves a light blue stain on the fingertips whereas the origami paper does not.

Very nice turtles. You are getting better and better. (Not that they weren't good to begin with). I like the line work you do on them first. Very creative.
As for learning and creating...in writing, and photo picking/editing, I need to work alone. In a quiet room, at the computer. Special keyboard and mouse and all, and a brain that zings about if I dont' have concentration. (To the point of sitting WAY too long in one position, with only fingers flying about on the keyboard).
As for creativity, I LOVE to talk and banter with other creative folk, to get ideas. SO much more comes out, than from a a single source. Me. The creative flow has always fascinated me in the collaboration mode. Wish I could use it more sometimes. Well, have a nice night down yonder.

Collaboration is it's own category of fun, there's nothing quite like it that I've found yet. There is value in self-imposed solitary confinement also, especially when the creative juice is way past 'flowing' and on to 'boiling over'.
Collaboration's potential weakness is that it takes time to grow and evolve as each contributor does their part. When we work alone, we can go double the speed limit of creation if we want (as long as the body is willing to join for the ride).
Say, if you ever want an original piece of ENH work for one of your posts (or any other off-chain projects), let me know! I'd be glad to work something out.

Been meaning to get into origami for a really long time! Never seen a turtle, though. Love the little turtle family! Is it easy for a beginner to make these, do you think?
I'd say it's not too hard. Origami is still a very new art to me. The directions I linked to Origami Way's Turtle Instructions (in the edit) are clear and easy to follow. I encourage you to make the turtle, @manouche. ☺
Your origami skills are really coming along. I love that you draw on the paper before making them. I wonder if you could experiment with moss or something as well.
I feel like the doodles are scoffing at tradition in a way, but it adds a nice touch of the unexpected. Glad you think so too. I used a wet brush on the green turtle with a really pale color just to see what would happen when the paper is wet, dried thoroughly, then folded. I didn't notice a difference, so more experimentation is likely to come!
pssshhh scoff at tradition! It's ok to remix old ideas with new methods!

Thank you! Origami is inherently cute IMO. And taking pictures is really just as much fun, you're right about that. I'm going to make all 55 sheets into models then take a big group pic at the end, I'm thinking diorama-style.
