Video explanation of how to fix broken solar panel glass.

in #off-grid5 years ago

In this video I explain the steps that I took in repairing the broken glass with polyurethane on a 325 watt solar panel that a friend of mine purchased for me at a scrap metal yard for thirteen dollars USD.

@ganjafarmer I finally got that new MPPT charge controller today and tested it with that repaired panel on both a 12 volt battery and a 24 volt battery bank. It worked fantastically! The image below is from when I was testing it charging the 24 volt battery bank. Do not be confused by the AC outlet and plugs I use them all the time for DC wiring because they are cheap and easy to find at local hardware stores and they work just fine for my purposes.

Thanks @annephilbrick! I am glad that you enjoyed it!

Yeah his little setup is pretty cool and for way less than my system. Although I did get my battery in trade...

Sweet. That's awesome. Charge everything and now total power grid.

Next up is more batteries inverter and charging other stuff.

Pretty much every electronic device I got is topped off regularly.

Awesome seeing that. No power issues anymore. Besides getting more batteries. I'm going to expand to the old van battery. Extra wiring and some upgrades are coming for me.

Killer! Off grid living is easy.

Oh and now led lighting is on the list for me too!

I am glad your setup is working out so well @ganjafarmer! I do have a few small inverters but I just do not use them very often. I definitely need to get more and better batteries but I am making do as things are now. Cheers and have a great day!

Well having inverters and something to work with now definitely is worth keeping it around

The inverters are a nice extra but really I try to keep everything DC power for the sake of efficiency. The inverters also tend to be noisy!

Hello..!! :-)
@jacobpeacock
Awesome information...!!
Lol... lol.. totally cracked me up.
"Two of my favorite signs to dissuade trespassers:"
I am going to try a repair my damaged solar panel when it warms up more outside and stays warm.
;D

Haha @annephlbrick! I love making those signs especially in vibrant colors!

When you do repair your panel make sure to use outdoor polyurethane or epoxy and although I recommend a roller or paint brush in the original article I think the plastic putty knife works better because it does not put air bubbles in the polyurethane.

Hello @jacobpeacock
:D
YES for sure I would get exterior polyurethane..!! Thanks for the tip on the air bubbles....
The vibrant color a definite great touch to the signs. Perfect I say.
:-)

You are welcome @annephilbrick!
Yeah I love the vibrant colors and misspelling some words helps also. :)
