Can The Blockchain Technology Help Create A Better Government In Nigeria And In The World?

in #nigeria7 years ago (edited)

Yesterday morning, I was reading a post published by a friend, a brother and a fellow Nigerian @honourmaus when it suddenly struck me to write this post.

Before I write on, let me quickly link out to the post I was talking about here:

THINK ABOUT YOUSELF, FORGET ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT

After reading that motivational post, I begin to search if there is a solution to my country's long plagued challenge.

Bad Governance.

I can categorically tell you that the well-blessed Nigeria remains in her under-developed state because of bad Governance.

I mean how could one comprehend it.

A country that is blessed with vast mineral resources, and a lot of creative minds; yet the majority of her citizens still live in poverty. Millions of Nigerians live under a dollar bill daily.

According to Daily post, a newspaper brand from Nigeria. Nigeria has lost $400bn oil revenue to corruption since Independence.

(Read the online post here http://dailypost.ng/2012/08/31/nigeria-lost-400bn-oil-revenue-corruption-since-independence-ezekwesili/).

Some greedy elements in government prefer to keep our money in off shore accounts to enrich the already rich countries of the west.

As we change from one government regime to another, we see a different method of looting public funds by those greedy elements.

These greedy elements block the way of any serious government from tackling corruption to the root in Nigeria.

MY PROPOSED SOLUTION TO THE CORRUPTION IN GOVERNMENT IN NIGERIA AND ELSEWHERE.

I am not a blockchain techie by any standard, though I have been involved with block chain through Bitcoin for a short period of time before joining the Steemit community last year.

We have all seen what the blockchain technology can do.

What if there is a blockchain created to bring transparency to the way we are been governed? I am sure techies like @dantheman, @ned, and other blockchain developers can give an answer to this techy question.

A blockchain where we the citizens become a formidable part of the governance process.

  • Where the citizens can vote on federal projects, just as community projects are voted upon by the community in the Bitshare ecosystem.

  • Where we can see how much is disbursed on a government project and how it is been spent to the last cent.

  • Where citizens can give confirmation on the projects marked as completed and be rewarded for it.

  • A situation when working with the Government is more fun and rewarding.

  • A blockchain that could raise money for Government projects from her citizens.

  • And other features that would make governance transparent.

MY CONCLUSION

I believe with the blockchain technology, every nation on earth can achieve the global development goals set for 2020.

Transparency is the key to trust in the Government. Please let me know what you think in the comment below, also resteem so we can read other Steemians opinion.

P.S: Corruption in Government is not only in Nigeria, it is a challenge in every country of the world. I recently wrote a post about it happening with the Russian Government, you can read that post below.

A global independence goal of 2020 is pretty confident, my friend. I think however that your idea sounds great. There should be some sort of cryptocurrency project geared towards regulating the political field in favor of the people. Perhaps there could be some national fund available for blockchain donations to allow the public to hold their own wallets and provide a small stipend in exchange for voting. on a global scale a cryptocurrency donation to a platform which then divvies up the pot to all wallet holders seems like it would not be that difficult.

You are right on point with me @arieshart. Presently, Governments are far from what the people want, and I am so sure blockchain can bring a lasting solution by bring the Government closer to her citizens.

Even if that's possible our political fraudsters will never allow that because it will regress their looting ability.

You are right but their will be a way round their greed too. I believe the technology is good enough to stop their fraudulent acts.

@lucashunter
Sure govt policy will kill anything that will not allow them centralized autonomy and ability to loot in Nigeria...nice post

Keep up the good work!

It seem very hard to do it, but you can try it an tell your people in nigeria about it

These are some great thoughts.

Just when I think I've seen one spectacular new idea for blockchain technology, I stumble across another.

"Where we can see how much is disbursed on a government project and how it is been spent to the last cent."

I definitely like this idea. Half the time we have no way of knowing where government funds are being used. This can be frustrating, especially if you're a tax-paying citizen.

I hope that the applications of the blockchain will continue to evolve. I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this situation, especially as it applies to Nigeria. Thanks for your post!

Very well written post you are absolutely right there is no papertrail right now so money can go where ever it wants to out of the way of the public. The problem with voting though even democratic voting is you will have those that will be unhappy about it and will want to make known their unhappy about it. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks for the crediting sir,

You are absolutely right about the proper solution, truly it would be the best solution if it is achieved
