Ursusarctoshorribilis.jpg

This shot is of an orphaned North American Brown Bear or Grizzly Bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) who had just woken up from winter hibernation at the Grouse Mountain Refuge for Endangered Wildlife in North Vancouver. Sadly cubs are often left behind when their mothers are hit by trucks. Orphaned cubs that are human socialised though the rescue process are difficult to reintroduce to the wild, often spending their entire life in reserves such as this one if they are lucky enough not to be put down. Massive in stature, the largest have been to weigh up to 680 kg (1,500 lb), standing up to 3 metres (9.8 ft) tall on their hind legs , or 1.5 metres (4.9 ft) at the shoulder when on all four legs. Robert, what a great capture. Thank you so much for your submission and information about orphaned cubs.

Hey @shadalene @sjarvie5, here’s my entry, please tell me if it’s qualified? Since the “fauna” doesn’t seem to be the absolute subject there. I will change for another entry if it’s not:

Unlike most travelers who reach Torres del Paine in Chile by land transportation, I arrived by boat through Rio Serrano. After a short hike upon landing, I captured this view.

Yes, it qualifies for fauna, I think. :) But I'll let @sjarvie5 make the final determination.

Donica, yes fauna is well represented with this scenic picture. What a gorgeous place, it makes me want to visit. I love those mountains!

Amazing place right? I hope you will also visit it one day! Thanks =)

For sure, it is now on my list of places to see!

Wow great news! Thank you! :D

Moving to Wasaga Beach has improved our outdoors life. We live just next to the Wasaga Beach provincial park. There is a lot of wildlife.
This fall we were walking in the park and we saw this beautiful hairy woodpecker.
This is my entry for today's fauna contest.

Hi Bart. Thanks for your submission. The yellows and greens make a great backdrop for the woodpecker. How fun to see them when you are out on your walk at the park!

thanks. Yes, I enjoy it. Especially now spring is coming closer, you can see all coming to live again.
Yesterday i saw a huge beautiful other type of woodpecker. Impressive, but I was to late for a photo.

Cactus

It was another very hot afternoon in rural Argentina where I was visiting family. That day, I decided to go for a walk and shoot the sunset. As it often happens, I got distracted by many other beautiful things that I hadn't realised were surrounding me and so ended up with plenty of pictures of plants, parks and houses glossed with the warm sunset light I thought was going to be my one and only subject.

Ps. Loving the themes in this contest!

Carla thank your for your submission. I love this theme too. It is so great to see the pictures of the plants and animals people see around them when they go on a walk, like you.

Thanks! It's crazy how many beautiful things surround us and we don't even realise it. Photo contests like these help us pay more attention to the details, and that's why I really enjoy taking part in this and looking at other people's perspectives :)

Yes! It is a way for us to see the world differently. Our world, like to you said to see the details and the bigger world that we may never get to experience first hand. Through these contest we can get a look at what others are seeing.

He almost daily meets me during my morning walk in near by park. When it comes to colours Peacocks are the jwels for a photographer. They are so beautiful when they are up in open.

@piyushpathak thank you for your submission of this beautiful peacock, they are definitely jewels! So amazing it meets you each morning.

Yeah but the thing is he is bit difficult to photograph, never standing still :)

Made this photo last Summer in Bend, OR (USA) on my iPhone using Halide. Edited in Snapseed.

Thanks for your submission!

Thanks for your submission Solomon. The colors are really striking and beautiful.

Having fun with these contests, thank you, here's my entry. Because it's dumping snow outside right now...

A few years ago it started snowing later in spring after some of the local flowers had bloomed. I saw this scene in my yard, grabbed my camera gear, and drove off into town to where there were some big blooms happening. The snow in town was wet and ugly and I ended up with nothing. When I got back home, I realized I didn't have to leave as the perfect scene was right in my front yard!

Scott, thanks for submitting this shot of the daffodil in snow, great juxtaposition. I enjoyed the story too sometimes what we are looking for is so close.

My very first bear sighting in the wild! From my trip to Glacier National Park back in 2015. My wife named him Wallace the bear.

A beautiful flower that I found on my daily walk, I can not talk much about it because I do not know what kind of flower it is.

Hide and seek with a red deer in Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park, Brandenburg, Germany. We have been observing each other when suddenly the ray of light fell between the trees creating a symbolic border between me and this beautiful creature.

@dmytrokorol thanks for this beautiful picture of both flora and fauna. The light is stunning. It looks like a painting.

Thank you very much!
