WEEK #1: TREES TUESDAY WINNERS!

Many thanks to everyone for your great submissions! The Trees Tuesday contest was judged by @caseygrimely, a photographer based out of Ogden, Utah, known for his nightscape, landscape, and his “Dancing with the Stars” series of dancers under the night sky.

This was hard, so many good photos to choose from!
In addition to the obvious criteria of composition, light, color, etc. I looked at each photo and asked, "Would I want to be there? Would I actually want to travel to the place where these trees are? Would I get excited if I was in that scene with my camera?"
Now I have a lot more places that I want to go and see, so thank you everybody!
- Casey

HONORABLE MENTIONS (in no particular order)

“This was taken very far away from everywhere. I still wonder where this road takes you. what do you think?”

@derekkind

“This was out near Ucluelet on the west coast of Vancouver Island...in other words, on the Pacific Ocean. I don't think this was an old tree, but it looks weathered - it's not easy for a tree, living beside the sea.”

“I took this photo looking up into the canopy of a Sycamore tree in the UK. It was the beginning of spring and the leaves were a fresh pale green. I liked the colours and patterns with the branches looking like veins.
I used an 8mm wide angle lens, pointing straight up, to create a distorted effect. The lens is so wide in fact, that if you look closely at the lefthand side of the photo, you can see the horizon bowing around.”

“This is a picture of a dead tree atop Upper Table Rock in Jackson County, Oregon. I thought it looked pretty interesting and made for a neat black and white subject. :)”

“Emerald lake in British Columbia isn't looking too Emerald at the moment. Winter has fully set in. On the other hand it gives us an opportunity to shoot fun monochromatic photos. (it looks black and white, but it really isn't) Getting up to to the lake is really easy normally - but the roads are pretty terrible right now - so make sure you have good snow tires.”

“This is not your typical looking Tahoe tree. I found this one near Secret Cove, on the east shore of Lake Tahoe. A photographer friend helped me light the tree with a handheld flash (with the output power turned way down). I've always loved the "zen" like vibe to this somewhat simple image.”

Congrats! And happy to hear you'll keep submitting!

These are so good! Didn't envy you, @caseygrimley, but I approve of your choices. Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to them and to @shadalene for making our day more tree-ish!

You're welcome! A tree-ish day is a good day! I just checked out some nature photography books from a local library, looking especially for trees photography. Never enough of it..

You'd think we'd get tired of them - for all the deforestation, there's still an awful lot of trees in the world!

No, never tired of trees. The most beautiful thing in the universe IMO.

To that I would just say: reserve your judgment until you look at a total solar eclipse through binoculars.

I might be persuaded because you're featuring Jim Carey. ;) Thankfully, though, when it comes to beauty in the universe, there is room for several superlatives. :) It just works like that.

Well, that's true! There's no rule saying we have to have one favourite of everything!
