Get Some Jazz Steemit #7 - Snarky Puppy

in #music7 years ago

Hey Steemit!

As I inted to do this "Get Some Jazz Steemit" posts a daily thing when time allows me to, today I'm sharing with you an amazing live performance by the great band Snarky Puppy.

The song is called "Lingus", and to me is the best performance of the band so far.

Snarky Puppy is one of those new "Jazzy / Funky / Electric / etc* bands, but they managed to be unique.

With a formation that usually changes, they have 2 drummers they usually switch based on availability, there are many shows where they play with fewer musicians, others with more, etc, they succesfully created an unique sound and project.

This album, "We like it here" is an album that was entirely recorded live with an audience. They are all using headphones for that purpose, and they managed to get an amazing sound.

...Oh man they sound solid and groovy!!, and Cory Henry's solo (synth) makes you want to be re-born again several times to see if you get the talent you need from an early age to play close to that.

You can even see the other keyboardist just "leaving" the instrument due to what Henry played.

One thing I truly loved about this video, is seeing people dancing on the control room, and feel the joy of all the audience in such an incredible performance.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did when I first watched and listened it.

Here are the previous Get Some Jazz Steemit entries in case you want to give it a chance:

GSJS #6 - Joshua Redman
GSJS #5 - Christian Scott
GSJS #4 - Vijay Iyer
GSJS #3 - Brad Mehldau

Lingus es un temón! No tuve oportunidad de verlos en vivo, cuando estuvieron acá en Niceto (si mal no recuerdo) tenía shows y me lo perdí. Ya volverannnnn!

Good lord I love this performance and piece of music!!
The first time I saw this my jaw literally droped. That solo is my go to when I want to show someone that jazzy/funky music is not just for people that have studied it, this performance has so much joy and energy, I've never met someone that said "Meh, it's okay" after hearing it hehe.

Thank you for sharing this Mati!!! :D

You're welcome Luchito! Yes, it's really astonishing, and usually it's like you say, it causes a reaction in whoever you show it to.

I really gotten a lot in to jazz lately so I'll make sure to follow this!

Hey Jon! I'm glad you are digging Jazz music, there's so much to listen to that you will probably fall in love with it.
Make sure you check the other posts I did for "Get Some Jazz Steemit" , I'm sure you will find some interesting stuff!
I'll make sure I post some Jazz that also has a guitar, so far the only that does is the one from Christian Scott.

I'm a big fan of Stan Getz and Chet Baker. I actually did one jazzy folk instrumental for my last EP. https://open.spotify.com/track/57ESsdigpAHVVrvumKsKMX?si=-3AnwL74SYmaxHfOMZSZPA

That's nice man! I'll have a listen as soon as I get home tonight.
Yeah, I love Chet Baker. I don't know if I like him more as a trumpeter or as a singer tho!
Check Mike Moreno, Gilad Hekselman, Steve Cardenas, Kusrt Rosenwinkel if you don't know them. They (except for Kurt) are not "swing guitarrists" per se, but they obviously carry the language they've studied into a more modern/contemporary music. You might like it!
