Get Some Jazz Steemit #6 - Joshua Redman

in #music6 years ago

Hey Steemit!

In today's Get Some Jazz Steemit, I wanted to share with you one of my all time favorites songs, beacuse it grooves, it moves from different places, and has a simple but incredibly beautiful drum solo.

The song is "Jazz Crimes" by Joshua Redman

This was the first Jazz album, "Elastic" that absolutely blew my mind, beacuse it's not jazz in the form of swing, but improvisation.

This trio is formed by Joshua Redman on tenor and soprano sax., Sam Yahel on keys (he plays the bass with a Wurlitzer or Rhodes sometimes on the album, and oh man it grooves!) and Brian Blade on drums.

IMO is one if not the best track of the album, and has one of the most memorable modern jazz drum solos.

Joshua Redman is the son of Dewey Redman, a very famous jazz sax player.
He never lived with his father, and was raised by his mother, and he pursued a career in laws.

Obviously, he was always influenced by his father's records, so he started to play sax while studying. That allowed him to develop a later connection with his father and do some music together.

Today, he's one of the most renowned saxophone players in modern Jazz.

Joshua has played with the biggest names in the jazz scene, from Christian McBride to Pat Metheny, Brad Mehldau, Jeff Ballard, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Ron Miles, and the list goes on and on.

Thsi song is gonna probably make your foot tap, if not, listen to it again!

Here are the previous Get Some Jazz Steemit entries in case you want to give it a chance:
