WHY I CONTEST - Contemplations on Content and Contests - THE OFFICIAL 1000+ FOLLOWER POST FROM @papa-pepper

in #milestone8 years ago

@papa-pepper is NOT a whale on steemit, so what I have to offer is limited in certain aspects.

I can give you a 1 cent upvote, advice, inspiration, and encouragement, but that's about it. When I post, I can get paid, but that doesn't really benefit others very much.

Many ways of redistributing wealth have been created on steemit. Projects like @robinhoodwhale, @steemsports, @steemtrail, @better, Project Curie, Steem Guild and others all exist to help reward authors and spread out the wealth available on steemit.

If I did not vote so much on my own, I too would offer my voting power (which is not that much) to some group to use, but too often I vote too much and deplete my power rapidly, rendering my upvotes far less powerful than they could be. In fact, I have intentionally voted far less over this past week just to recover voting power, and for the first time ever, I have actually seen my voting power at 100% on https://steemstats.com/#/ which was created by @jesta.

Even that wonderful 100% FULL POWER upvote is only worth 1 cent right now it's own...

This is why I contest!

With over 1000 followers, 14,000 SP, and a rep of 71, @papa-pepper has done great for himself, but it ain't just me I'm concerned about. It's you too!

How can I obtain so much and not want to share? Personally, I can't. Since I don't have the finances to invest in steemit to make myself a whale so I can give you $10 or $20 upvotes, I resort to giving away STEEM and Steem Dollars, often in contests or WILDCARDS.

The @papa-pepper WILDCARDS are where I choose to give away some STEEM or SD when I see a post, comment, or contest entry that I think should be rewarded a little more. I can't upvote any more that once and can't command whales to upvote them, so I take matters into my own hands and give out of my own pockets. I've hit a few users already with these WILDCARDS and there will be more to come.

The contests are one of my favorite ways to give away STEEM for multiple reasons. For one, it gives others a chance to turn their entry into a post, which can actually put more STEEM in their pocket than if they actually won the contest.

Another reason is that it encourages creativity and gives us all a chance to interact and share even more, which helps guilds the steemit community and knit us together! So many things have happened because of contests on steemit that never would have occurred otherwise. Also, I just love contest anyway.

One week I pocketed 400 STEEM just by entering two contests!

I had won OPEN MIC Week 8 and the PPAP contest from @sweetsssj in the same week! That's a lot of "free" STEEM! It's fun to enter and fun to win, so I have ran a lot of contests on steemit already and given away quite a bit of my own STEEM too!

I'm not just here for me, I'm here for you too!

If @papa-pepper posts on steemit, he can make some STEEM. If @papa-pepper runs a contest on steemit, you could make some STEEM. This is why I switch from content to contest so frequently. It's one way that @papa-pepper can give back, because Papa cares.

From my point of view, steemit is amazing and revolutionary, and all of you rock!

That's how much I think you rock!

Thanks to everyone involved in this community, and to all those 1000+ users who have chosen to follow @papa-pepper.

You guys mean the world to me, and I'll even put my STEEM where my mouth is to prove it!

Keep it up guys, and be blessed!

Also, if you are looking for a chance to win 50 STEEM, check out -Round 4 of my Wild & Strange Contest which is running right now!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

@papa-pepper, thank you for your inspirational steeming!!!!

Thank you for the comment and for being inspired!

@papa-pepper, that's why I follow you - you did not just set the bar high at posting, you have a huge heart - you don't just care about yourself but the welfare of other Steemians, too. I first noticed you at @simba's wall, your comments had always made me laugh!

As for thinking about how to give back to the community - I resonate with your thoughts!
I take my hat off you !

Hey @papa-pepper, great post and here are a few observations:
1.) there is no doubt that there is more happiness in giving and you're a living example.
2.) you have so many followers in large part because you are kind, polite and care about others.
3.) your vote isn't just worth 1 cent for 2 reasons:

a) it is worth much more in it's power to encourage and motivate.
b) if you vote a bit later when the post has a higher money value it carries a lot more weight. I have less voting power than you but since I jumped on this post late it added about 30 cents!

And that's my 2 cents worth. Well, actually, normally one cent worth and this case about 30 cents worth!

@kus-knee (The Old Dog)

LOL - Well said Old Dog. Well said....

@kus-knee - whoa - I clicked upvote and it gave a 0.01 that feels good but you are right - those cents matter and even without those cents upvotes matter :)

Thanks for that, and it's nice to hear!

Thanks papa, it has been a fun ride following you.

You may not know this but when I was new to steemit and you started upvoting my comments. I of course followed you and explored your blog, but the first 40 or so people I found to follow were from the comment section of your blog... :)

I could tell from the humor and community spirit that I would enjoy their blogs as well, and I have..

So I too say thanks to @papa-peppers followers!!!

Steem Strong folks...

Very cool to hear that, and great way to find others to follow and interact with!

Because I actually live in a snow globe, or for some other reason?

Thought so, thanks for the confirmation!

Just wanna point out here that this post has 1312 votes! I don't know that I've ever seen this before. Has anyone else?

Couldn't happen to a better guy than @papa-pepper :)

I saw that too.

This post may just be where the bots like to gather and meet up too! (LOL)

Did you see my current poetry contest posted four days ago?

Also, it warmed up to -5 in WI right now!!!

UV and RS for you also --- there are so many things I cannot do and get discouraged with sometimes, I try to encourage others as best I can with the resources I have -- and that much we are called to do.

Have a nice holiday with your family and I hope you are over being sick or soonish anyways.

Have a good week and GBY and the family and the time you get to spend with them all.

Thanks man, and for the record, I think you do awesome at encouraging and helping others!

I think you're pretty awesome, papa!
I love that you have a giving heart. You definitely ROCK! <3

Oh sweet @merej99, you work your tail off just as hard and may even be doing more for the community, so that's a huge compliment coming from you!
