GOING DEEPER WITH PAPA-PEPPER: The Lyricist
For years, @papa-pepper has been writing, rapping, singing and rhyming.
Back in high school, I started getting involved in bands and writing my own original music. Over the years I've appreciated about every genre of music, and appreciate talented lyricists and songwriters. It seem that whether I am in a band or not, I usually have several friends who are or who are working on rapping or some other musical venture.
The ability to share ideas, emotions, and experiences through lyrics has always intrigued me and I have always enjoyed crafting my own lyrics and rhymes too. My first entry into the Open Mic contest hosted by @luzcypher and co-sponsored by the generous @pfunk even won the contest that week.
STEEMIT LIKE YOU MEAN IT
Sure, I made a steemit based song, which may have helped, but I still had to write lyrics for it. In fact, I have been writing a lot more since joining steemit, which has been a blessing. Periodically, I would write some new songs or poetry, but not as often as I have been lately.
Here is a short excerpt from a poem I wrote six months ago, a little while after I joined steemit:
To rest their souls beneath its shade
And contemplate the rhymes they've made
To gather oft with minstrels there
Put pens to page, their prose to share
It is part of a larger original work titled Today I Planted A Poet Tree that was about planting a literal "Poet Tree", which was basically a tree for poets and wood-smiths to gather and write under.
Snippets like "put pens to page, their prose to share" and also "to scribe a jewel and ink a gem" (which comes later in the poem) touch a special creative part of my mind and bring joy to my brain. Creatively crafting words can be a wonderful and exciting art form, and I've always enjoyed doing it, I just don't always have the inspiration or outlet, though steemit has given me an outlet!
Whether it is poetry, creative writing, or lyrics for a song, I enjoy being able to interact, share, and get feedback. Having this outlet that steemit provides not only sparks new creativity, but it allows me to share previous lyrics that I wrote years ago too, like this song.
Meet Me At The Cross
Of course, @papa-pepper is not about claiming to be the best or just putting himself on show in some lame attempt to show my supposed greatness, I just like to have fun. Collaborations like my recent Open Mic Entry can get pretty crazy. In this one I combine rhymes from 12 other steemians with some that I wrote myself in an attempt to make one epic song about MINNOWLIFE on steemit.

That wasn't my first lyrical attempt at excellent collaboration here. My most notable musical collaborative effort was when @papa-pepper teamed up with @senseiteekay and @verbal-d to form @the-blockchain. Here was our initial track together.
Get With @The-Blockchain
This STEEM-powered super-group has some other things in the works, so feel free to follow the username @the-blockchain to keep updated on what we are up to. Working across three continents and time zones has its difficulties, but the end results can sure be rewarding!
Though "lyricist" may be just one of the many facets of @papa-pepper, with excellent poetry and music contests on steemit, I'll keep the rhymes and free-verse prose flowing, and keep creating and sharing original lyrics on a fairly consistent basis.
As you all continue to interact and share, I would highly recommend getting involved in some of the many contests here. Besides Round 4 of every Season of my WILD & STRANGE CONTEST being a Poetry Contest, there are many word-based contests here for the creative. Users like @prufarchy, @hopehuggs, and @robyneggs have all ran some great poetry contests, and Round 5 of my WILD & STRANGE Contest is always a Song Contest, as is the Open Mic contest ran by @luzcypher.

Great @papa-pepper you are an inspiration for a lot of steemians that are confused at many times on to write on things. You create such a way that anyone can pick one kind of liking in themselves and start the blog. Thank you.
Not a big fan of the name The-Blockchain :p It's like someone would've called themselves "the internet" in 1990. :D

I wanted to say also, for awhile now, I like the name of the group @the-blockchain bc it is word play on the rap game and how we all wore chains, back in the day.... it will always be a part of the old skool #HipHop game ...
