Do I Make Mistakes? Yes! Am I Perfect? No! Do I Owe @abrockman an Apology? Maybe! So Let's Find Out, Shall We!

Hello everyone. All of you. Yes, everyone! Don't skip over this one.

It's important.

The Apology

First of All

Allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Damien.

I am the mastermind behind all things @NoNamesLeftToUse. From the art to the writing, the responses to your comments and even those strings of strange words some call sentences I might place under your posts from time to time. It's all, me.

Some of my accomplishments include:

  • blah blah blah
  • Who cares.
  • I'm good at what I do.

I screw up sometimes, too.

Allow me to explain.

On Steemit, we all come across instances of what we might consider to be abuse. That can be pretty much anything anyone feels like affixing that label to. It doesn't matter, that's not the point of this, I'm not going to get into those details; but I think we can all agree this concept of abuse is heavily ingrained into the culture here. It happens.

I've been a contributing member here for nearly one and a half years. I've seen it all.

On a few occasions, I've stepped up to the plate, on my own, to use my flags/downvotes to remedy what I've considered to be abusive behavior. I'm not afraid to stand up for myself, nor am I afraid to stand up for the community I reside in. If there is a fire, I will attempt to put it out. If the fire is too big, sometimes you have to call in reinforcements. That's how I see it, and I don't care if you think that's right or wrong.

Shoplifter in the Art Department

Please call security...

If there's one thing I can't stand; it's an art fraudster. People posing as artists, ripping images off of the internet and presenting them here as if they did the work. Physical art, digital art, photography, it doesn't matter; if it's not theirs, they have no business sharing it here while attempting to earn rewards.

In today's day and age, we also have posers who apply filters to photographs and attempt to call themselves digital artists for simply pressing a button or two and making a photo appear as if it was painted. I've seen this countless times and I can do nothing but laugh at these jokers who try to pass this stuff off as digital art. Sure it's digital, sure it's artsy, but it's not a painting; it's an altered photograph and they all look similar. Those people would actually earn far more if they were simply honest about their process, but it seems they're not smart enough to realize that.

Moving On

I found a post on the trending page that made me feel misled.

Right up near the top, earning hundreds of dollars worth of rewards, most of which were bought and paid for.

The image inside the post, to me, looked like another one of these push button altered photographs being passed off as a digital painting. I wasn't sure, so before I said anything, I pressed the right mouse button while hovering over the image. From there, I'm given a menu. It looks like this:

Screenshot (339).png
*I used my own image from one of my blog posts for this demonstration.
I selected Search Google for image.

Within a few seconds, I was able to find the original photograph that the art I was looking at was based upon. That's when I started to feel misled. I dug a little deeper and used the same search to locate the source of another image within the blog post that I felt was misleading. I then offered a few words in the comment section, included the two images I found elsewhere on the internet, and asked for an explanation. I then flagged the post(flags are not necessarily permanent) and notified two other services who specialize in looking into cases of abuse.

With so many cases surfacing of people abusing those paid vote services, I truly felt like I had no other option than to handle it the way I did.

Eventually

I was given a response.

Of course, he was not happy with me, I don't blame him, and that's fine. I simply wanted to get to the bottom of it and was fully prepared to explain myself. Attempting to talk it out in the comment section didn't lead to any progress, so I contacted this gentleman in private on Steemit chat. From there, and considering all things said previously in the comment section, we were able to sort things out. He realized his mistakes and decided to make a few minor but important changes to the post to help make things a little more clear to anyone else who may have had the same concerns I did. I offered some more advice, he took it, and that was that, I removed my flag; done deal.

This is Where it Gets Good

He has no idea I'm doing this.

It breaks my heart when I see new members come along and some of the only advice they're given to help them succeed here is this bullshit about buying votes so they can hopefully gain a following and get attention. They spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars to buy a slot on the trending page that nobody looks at except for a school of confused minnows who have nothing better to say than, "I like this post, you are wonderful, this is magnificent, please come and vote for my post now, friend."

After talking to this guy and doing a little bit of digging of my own, I feel he deserves more than that endless cycle of vote buying hell.

Our voices, especially my voice when I get loud, will do a much better job at getting the right kind of attention someone deserves.

When you're done here, click that link to find out a little bit more about him.

Do you folks remember when I said this:

Rather than making people pay for attention, let's go back to paying attention to them.

I bloody well meant it!

And this is how we do that.

Now, I'm calling on the art community here, all of you, plus everyone else who's reading to simply pay attention to this guy. Where I stand right now I think he'd be a great asset to this community and an inspiration to many more.

So spread the word. Tell your friends, tell your mom, tell your dog, tell your neighbor, tell your neighbor's neighbor, walk across the street and tell them too(but if they tell you to get off their lawn, make sure you do).

Have a nice day.

Damien (nice to address you by your name after all of long talks). First of all, I apologize for not seeing this post until now, but I am honored and humbled you took the time to do this. I wrote an entire follow-up article Here.

Your mentorship and advice is greatly appreciated and like I have said, I am growing from this experience to better myself and to better my involvement in this community. Your actions are what I truly believe Steemit is all about. Dare I say this could be the beginning of an actual friendship? ;) I hope so.

Also, thank you to everyone in the comments for even more insight. Hearing others point of views and feedback is very constructive. I appreciate all the new followers and I will be applying all of this to my new posts moving forward.

I upvoteed my own comment purely for visibility <– Look, more transparency!

No need to apologize for not seeing this. It was better that you decided on your own to come back, without knowing. That's why I didn't say a damn thing! LOL. I can't control what people do though. I tried, I hope people can help and support your work, but that's all I can do.

I hope things work out for you, I really do. By the sounds of it, you've accomplished some great things in your life. You should see success here and yeah, you have friends here as well.

See you around!

Rather than making people pay for attention, let's go back to paying attention to them.

Wow! That is rad!

I can only agree with you. Thank you, @teamsteem.

Well done! When someone complains about what is on the site or on the trending page. If they haven't flagged anything I assume it is just another person wanting others to clean up without taking responsibility for the costs of their earnings.

It is especially annoying in the case of large stakeholders and witnesses.

Your Mom doesn't work here. Use your votes and your flags to encourage the type of growth we receive.

I agree. If there's a mess, clean it up. There's no reason to sit around acting like hoarders. If the junk is extending all the way out into the backyard, the neighbor's property value drops. This is just common sense.

It is especially annoying in the case of large stakeholders and witnesses.

The downtown analogy. They are the skyscrapers. Now look at any big city. Usually, we keep those areas nice a clean. Signs everywhere. $250.00 fine for dropping a cigarette butt. That's the heart of the city. Once that area goes to shit, the rest falls, and rather quickly I might add. They should know this.

Just goes to prove that @nonameslefttouse means what he says and says what he means!!!

HATS OFF

And I think @breezin does the same.

Poor @cheetah sometimes messes up too.
Respect for what you did bro.
Also, am I the only one or is his site f'ed up? I'm getting an Airtel page upon visiting.
EDIT: Nvm, it was a scam which the Airtel app relayed through my firefox browser. Hackers getting impatient nowadays man.
EDIT EDIT: Yeahhh my VP's back biatch! Now have my 0.02 vote.

I'm having a few problems with connection, but it might be on my end. If this goes through and anyone else reads it, bare with me, I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

We got your message.
WE GOT YOUR MESSAGE!
I said...

WE GOT YOUR MESSAGE @NONAMESLEFTTOUSE!

(Hope this reaches him!)

I really like and agree with your points, also I find it really important that you started a dialogue and tried to explain the reason you did something, this is important because this interaction and within the interaction we can improve our post's quality and maybe in the end of the day ourselves.

That was the goal. It was a confusing situation and the only way to get answers is to talk it out. Of course, when a post goes from high rewards to almost nothing, talking isn't the easiest thing to do. I learned a few things as well. Certainly didn't feel good about it after either.

That is totally understood and I centainly agree with you!

I love your painting and your stand for steemit community. Other than that, I’m speechless. I love following people like you. I completely understand your frustration, you are not the only one to be... I saw it so many times...you did the right thing.

That link of his that I provided talks about his process. The post I looked at didn't mention any of that, so it was hard to tell what was going on. I think now he'll include that information, even as a link. Some of his work looks like altered photos but apparently he's working pretty hard on this stuff. With all of those people attempting to abuse this art world we have here, I find it hard to take everything at face value so I ask questions. I got answers and now hopefully this little post can at least help him out so he can feel welcome, because he is welcome.

Yes, I’m pretty sure you did the right thing. He can live in piece today as well. As long as he keeps protecting himself with explanation about his process in each of his blogs he is going to be fine. You definately handled it well and I ended up following @abrockman to, because I think he defended his case very well.

Good post :). INTEGRITY & GENEROSITY. We need that, and this makes me smile.

Liked the art, too.

P.S. If I plagiarize just a liiiiiiittle bit, will I get a full-post feature, too? Absolute joke, but had to be made.

LOL! Break the rules just for a shout out. Sounds reasonable. Isn't that how the big celebrities do it though? One drunk weekend along with a few mishaps and suddenly they are all over the news for two weeks!

You just keep doing what you're doing, you'll be fine, and thank you for the compliments.

:). Glad to make you laugh.

Thank you for paying attention to all of us, the little ones...

Hmm! You must be feeling well. That’s unusual time for you to blog. Unfortunately my wife is calling. I will get to your blog as soon as I find place to hide.
....proud of you man nice , I just told my wife!

Stop making this about your wife! 😠
😂

That was a quick riddance!?

No, of course not, just excided you noticed me!

Haha you're weird man.
Like me.

Unusual time indeed. I thought this would get more views at this time of day and I think I was right so hopefully this helps the guy and makes him feel welcome.
