@maninayton - The Possible Origin Of The Easter Egg Hunt?

I have just read an article from one of my favourite bloggers Hardscrabble Farmer -
I'll refer to him as HF from now on - in which he speculates on the possible origin of the age-old tradition of the Easter Egg hunt.
For those who may not be familiar with this custom, an Easter Egg hunt is where eggs (nowadays chocolate ones but in the past they would have been real hard-boiled, decorated ones) are hidden within a certain area and children will then go out to find them.
According to the article by HF, after winter, when the chickens are free to wander further afield, they will lay their eggs almost anywhere instead of returning to the henhouse.

Rather than let these eggs go to waste HF sets his children the task of patrolling the farmyard and surrounding area collecting up these wayward eggs.
Could this practical annual chore that must have been replicated throughout thousands of farms over the years, have evolved into the Easter Egg hunt? Sounds feasible to me.

In Slovakia is great tradition of creating Easter eggs. There is hundreds of techniques to do it. We called them Kraslice (root of the word is word krása = beauty) Kraslice on Google images
They are works of art! Beautiful. Thanks for the link @nanich. Have a great day
Beautiful...they remind me so much of my childhood. 😀
Sounds like a feasible possibility of the Easter egg hunt origins. Interesting fact!
Glad you liked it.
Yeah, it's something I can bring up at random sometime today to explain the where the hunt came from.
It does sound very plausible. As a child we used to colour and decorate eggs.
While in Austria, my grandmother had a huge garden in Hallein near Salzburg...it was so exciting searching for them plus of course the brilliantly wrapped chocolate and candy eggs.
Great memories.
Great memories indeed. For your interest I've included a link sent to me earlier today by @nanich that shows some beautifully decorated Easter eggs. here. I Hope you enjoy it.
Thank you so much for the link, that reminds me so much of my childhood. It was a family tradition to decorate eggs elaborately.
You're more than welcome :-)
