It does sound very plausible. As a child we used to colour and decorate eggs.
While in Austria, my grandmother had a huge garden in Hallein near Salzburg...it was so exciting searching for them plus of course the brilliantly wrapped chocolate and candy eggs.

Thank you so much for the link, that reminds me so much of my childhood. It was a family tradition to decorate eggs elaborately.
