I Need You. You Need me

Whether we like it or not, embrace it or not, we are social creatures who in some form or another crave human connections.

It is woven into our very nature to ensure the survival of the human race. As we have touched upon before, we all have to work together to ensure that everything in the world runs as smoothly as possible. Okay so its not perfect, but we are all still here.

So when a connection to another human being is formed and maintained, our brain is programmed to reward us.

There is a risk that if we spend too much time alone and become isolated, we start to feel down and depressed and if that isolation is prolonged, we can actually go nuts.

Interactions with other people is the thing in this world that can bring us most happiness. It's not the amount of money we make or stash under the bed, the prestigious job, the big house or car, or all our precious things that are accumulated over the years, it is experiences with other people and spending time with them can can bring us the biggest richness of all: happiness.

Of course, not every single person is going to make us happy. Everyday there are probably lots of people we don't particularly enjoy spending time with or are ambivalent about - when you have to work together on a project at your job, your nosy neighbour or someone giving it all that at the gym.

However there are still benefits to these interactions and relationships as we can work well together, can challenge each other, help each other to become better people and we are better contributors to society when we create something as a team, which has its own rewards. Being polite and courteous has its own merits as well.

When we are with people that we love and enjoy being with, we get lots of satisfaction, joy and happiness out of those relationships.

We have evolved into people who thrive on mental, physical and social connections. Almost everyone appreciates a great big warm hug.

We should aim to spend as much time as possible with people who love and encourage us, help us grow, push us out of comfort zones to fulfil our dreams. Life is better with cheerleaders and mentors around us.

You need to pick the ones closest to you wisely if you want to grow as a person and happiness is your goal, so try to spend time with happy and positive people.

Negative ones can make you feel isolated. I'm living proof of that, I was in my past relationship for 14 years and I just couldn't take anymore negativity and walking on eggshells and I finally snapped and asked him to leave. It was like a weight was lifted and a veil taken away from my eyes.

Nuture the important close relationships with freinds and family, as these connections will help boost your happiness and make you feel like you are part of something bigger, in turn gives meaning to your life.

A bit like being here on Steemit, really. :)

I'd love to see your comments and questions and make this an interactive challenge. I am here to help.

This is so true! Whether we're introverts or extroverts, I think everyone needs real human connections to survive and thrive. Even just a good hug gives a rush of oxytocin that makes everyone feel good! Thanks for a great read :)
