Day 7/30 Be Happy Challenge: Get Your Body Moving

Are you having a bad day, or feeling down?

Maybe not today, but recently?

The best way to mend a bad day could be to exercise. This will likely help you increase your happiness. There is a strong scientific link between exercise and an improvement in well-being.

Why not give it as try, even if it is just a short brisk walk and you have to herd up the children to do it, do it when you notice you are feeling unhappy or depressed.

Take note of how you are feeling whilst you walk, chances are you will find your mood improving and you may actually feel happier.

This happiness after exercising is caused by two mechanisms in our body...

The first is that exercise causes the release of endorphins and other mood enhancers from our brains and these are released within just a few minutes after you finish your work out and the effect can last a surprising 12 hours.

Secondly exercise reduces the levels of the hormones adrenaline and cortisol in the body, which means that you can instantly feel less stressed when you work out.

This double barrelled punch has a powerful effect on how you feel, therefore the brisk walk can help you enhance your mood almost instantly.

Ideally you should try to exercise a few times a week as this will give you the best results. Even if you use your lunch break to go for brisk walk, or do a small workout as soon as you get up, or in the evening. It doesn't really matter when, where or what you do just start moving and get the blood pumping. There are so many exercises to choose from, that you should be able to pick some things you enjoy and therefore will stick with.

In addition to the improvement in mood that you will get from regular exercise, there are additional longer term benefits to your overall health as you will get fitter and even slimmer or more toned if you keep at it. All these extra things will as well as improving your mood help you feel better about yourself, adding more self confidence into the mix.

For optimal results, try as much as you can to exercise outside as sunshine and fresh air help to add to a feeling of wellbeing.

So come up with simple things you can start right away, whether it's going for a walk every day, or taking up jogging, signing up for a yoga class, or searching YouTube for a work out video, or maybe you'd like to take up a sport like basketball or tennis.

Again it doesn't matter what you choose as long as you make it a personal goal to move around and get more active. Change it up, keep it interesting. There are lots of fun ways to get your body moving and your heart pumping and seeing the beautiful world around you.

When you are ready really challenge yourself plan a group hike and encourage your friends and family to join in.

Great post, I agree! If I can't work out, I clean the house. That also helps. I read today that in case you can't focus on a task at hand, you should clean your space.

Vacuuming can definitely work up a sweat. Decluttering and cleaning my space I need to work on, as I'm naturally an untidy soul - always have been
