Day 5/30 Be Happy Challenge: Actions To Become More Happy

Actions to Become More Happy

Humans are hard wired to take action and get stuff done. This makes when you think that our survival as a society depends on lots of different people taking action. Just think about our emergency services to name just one.

We all have to do our part in order for things to run smoothly.

Our brain actually rewards us for getting things done because of this internal hard wiring.

When you think of this, I'm sure that you can find plenty of examples in your life - times when you have felt accomplished, proud like finishing a big work project, reorganising closet, or finally getting that big pile of clothes put away.

You have to agree that this feelings is rather marvellous and we can use it to motivate us to get things done and take action.

But when feel like we aren't doing anything meaningful or contributing to society we get depressed.

So when we are out of work, don't have a fulfilling job, or feel like the work they are doing is useless or unappreciated we are much more likely to feel tired, lack energy and feel down and depressed.

We can turn that depressed feeling around and find something, anything that makes us feel productive or helpful.

When we feel like we are contributing to society, having a positive impact, helping ourselves, or helping others we will begin to feel better.

The next time you start to feel down - force yourself to do one small productive thing. Go put up that shelf, declutter a drawer, vacuum the living room, or do the laundry.

Savour the feeling of accomplishment and use it as motivation to go and do something else instead of letting depression get a deeper grip.

When you keep building on this, you'll notice your mood becoming more positive and happy.

A way that supercharges this feeling of accomplishment is to do something productive that helps others. Consider volunteering at a soup kitchen or fundraising for local animal rescue (this is one I threw myself into and it helped loads), or something you feel strongly about. There are hundreds of opportunities out there, even offering to babysit for a friend with small children, who hasn't had the opportunity to go out at night for ages.

When you do something that benefits someone else, the reward our brain is hard wired to give us is even more fulfilling.

Thinking more long term, my goal is to build a business that fuels this feeling of giving back to the world, could this be something you might be able to consider too? When I finish writing this Happiness Challenge, I plan to publish it as a book.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if the hours you spend earning enough to pay your bills and rent contributed to your overall happiness? Perhaps you could look into a job that could be more fulfilling for you, if you are not at one right now.

Set yourself a long term goal and think what you can do this week or this month to work towards that goal as this would be an amazing step towards your future happiness.

And in the meantime, volunteer, keep taking action and doing little things that make you feel accomplished and happy.

I'd love to see your comments and questions and make this an interactive challenge. I am here to help.

Please Resteem if you feel this could benefit your followers

I want to get into the habit of doing my bed in the morning to start my day with the feeling of acomplishment. Just a 10 second task but good pay off.

Yes this is definitely makes for a good start to the day.

A good lesson of life and psychology! Thank you very much!

If it helps someone it has been worth writing it :)

Yes, yes.
