Get Up When You Wake Up Naturally

I don't know how many times I've had the experience of waking up at 4 or 5am and feeling completely awake and rested, only to fall back asleep and wake up feeling groggy and tired.

I'm someone who doesn't usually sleep through the night, though I typically get enough sleep to feel rested...that is dependent upon when I wake up, however. If I rise and start my day upon that initial wakeful experience, I will be better prepared to start my day.

Even if it is 4 or 5 am, the act of going back to sleep for a few hours will usually sabotage this alert feeling, and I will inevitably wake up feeling like a regretful zombie.

This presumes I've received at least 7 hours of sleep, which I typically do. If you wake up at 2am, only getting 3 hours of sleep, you will not be prepared to tackle the day like some intense navy seal on a reconnaissance mission. Instead, you will likely crash and end up taking an extended cat nap like you did in kindergarten.

As adults, we still need at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night, according to the National Institute of health. When we wake before our alarm, this can be the body's way of letting us know that we've received enough sleep and can tackle our day.

Two main systems interact with each other to determine whether our body and mind feels rested. The first factor is your Circadian Rhythm, which is your body's internal clock. The second is something called sleep homeostasis, which naturally pushes us to sleep longer and more deeply if we haven't received enough rest. (source).

It's a difficult thing to do, but getting up when you wake up feeling rested, regardless of the time, can be incredibly rewarding


I've heard about this fact for quite some time, yet I've almost never followed through when it comes time to roll out of bed. Inevitably I roll back asleep, chasing the dreamworld for one last subconscious theatrical experience before having to face reality. And I almost always regret not getting up the first time, as my day ends up feeling like a really boring George Romero movie.

Today was different, hence why I'm typing a Steem post at 6:30 am MST. I woke up around 5, feeling completely rested and awake, and for whatever reason I decided to give this whole waking naturally thing a shot.

I didn't allow the allure of my dreams undermine the opportunity to get a head start on my day. And I must say, though it's still early, I feel fantastic. This may become a regular thing with a heavy heaping of discipline and persistence. I'm not naive to think I'll always be able to get my ass moving as soon as my body tells me it's time.

But now that I have the experience of doing so, I think it'll be a little bit easier. Because it's definitely worth losing sleep over.

Guilty here. I'm always waking up like 5am feeling good, but, as a good lazy I am, I sleep again and wake only at 8am. Sometimes I'm OK, but other times, I'm just... soft, slow, I think are the right adjectives. Nevertheless, I always sleep a LOT, in order to be completly fine in work.

It is hard but completely worth it. I've been awake for almost 3 hours now, whereas before I would just be starting my day.

I can't believe I used to wake up at 10 and think that was early...

I'm going to test my body next week and use the extra time for useful things. The truth is that I need to cut my sleep hours. I sleep minimum 9 hours per night xD! Whenever I sleep like 6h, man, my colleagues notice at the same minute xD! I begin to be nervous for little things and stuff like that...

I get up very early for my morning workout. And then I commute to school. I can't imagine waking up late again. But alarm clock is a necessity for me, at least as long as I am not completely used to getting up at 4 o'clock.

Yeah, working out as one of your first activites is one of the best ways to start the day in my eyes. You feel energized for the day, and you feel great for already completing something productive.

I am saying this to everybody and actually nobody believes me I wake up naturally at 5:45 AM, with no alarm. I will show them your post. :) Thanks for explaining. :)

Thanks for sharing that with your peeps :) I bet I could pull off the same thing with a little practice, as I usually wake up between 5 and 6 naturally.

Also, I've tried to upvote your post several times but steemit is not allowing it for some reason. I've noticed this has been happening recently and it's a bit frustrating.
