Favorite Photo From Day 1 Of Backpacking Recently

This last weekend was a lot of fun! I went backpacking with two friends to an area I hadn't been before. On Friday evening, after a nine-mile hike, we ended up camping at a little lake with no name. It was in between Glacier Lake and Baltimore Lake. There are tons of little lakes in the area with no names, but this lake should have a name, it was so beautiful!

A photo of "No Name Lake" ended up being my favorite of the day. This photo was shot at 11:35 pm, the moon is in the sky and it helped light up the scene during a long exposure.

Shot on a Canon 5DS R with a 24-105mm lens set at 24mm. A tripod and shutter release cable were used during the 99-second long exposure. The aperture was nice and wide at f4, in order to let in a lot of light. The ISO was 800, fairly light sensitive without getting too much digital noise. I had used a headlamp to light up the mountains in other shots, but for this photo, I did not use the headlamp. The long exposure and bright moonlight lit up the foreground enough, the headlamp was a bit overkill.

Below is a view of a section of the map where you can see the lake.

And here is a view of the map where you can see the lake's proximity to Lake Tahoe.

This moonlight shot alone makes me feel like carrying the weight of the camera and tripod on a three-day hike was worth it. However, I captured many other keeper photos too and I look forward to sharing more of them with you soon.

That's really cool!

Were you the only one with the equipment?

Thank you! I was the only one with a dslr but everybody had cell phones.

Great photo. The lake looks really placid. Was this a at high elevation? Thanks for sharing Scott!

Thank you @thraellock! It was very calming out there. The max elevation was about 8,000 feet. I live at 6,200 so it wasn't too bad.

Oh wow! Nice! I live at a fairly low altitude. About 500' and will sometimes go about 800' when I visit my dad. It would probably take me a while to acclimate to your regular 6,200. Closest I can get without hiking is Paradise on Mt. Rainier, which is about 5,400 Feet.
