The beautiful mountains surrounding Lake Doxa in Greece

in #lan7 years ago (edited)

For one of my recent excursions out of Athens we decide to take a hike through the mountains surrounding Lake Doxa in the Peloponnese region of Greece. We arrived just in time to catch the autumn leaves changing. It was a beautiful and magical area, so detached from city life. The perfect short escape.

For an added bonus, Lake Doxa is located quite close to one of Greece's most well regarded wine regions, Nemea. After a long day of hiking in the mountains treat yourself to dinner and a lovely glass of Agiorgitiko. Better yet, make a weekend of it and schedule a tour at one of the vineyards. I highly recommend Domain Skouras or Ktima Bairaktaris, which are both making some lovely wines right now.

For those of you who live in large cities, where are your favorite places to get your nature fix?

Is the tree in your photo in the middle of spring? Or is it the leaves that are so? But the atmosphere is very beautiful. @terminalblue

thank you! It was taken at the same time as the others, but higher up on the mountain where the trees were greener.

Wow, it must be very comfortable there. Do you like adventure by traveling? @terminalblue

traveling is one of my favorite things in the world :)

Which trip do you like most during your life? Have you been to Sabang? @terminalblue

It’s so hard to pick a favorite! Obviously Greece had a huge influence on me, so much so that I ended up moving here! But I also loved northern India and Oaxaca, Mexico. The Netherlands recently was also really nice. I have not been to Sabang, do you recommend it?

Waw, it turns out you already have a long journey. I never felt like you. I want to feel the way like, but to Japan or France. Yeah, I recommend you to try to go to Sabang. @terminalblue

i have been there for Ziria Skyrace :), it's a very beautiful area!

Isnt it? I'm definitely going to have to go back soon!

wonderful photographs!

What a lovely area? Quite a different side to Greece than normally seen.

Greece has such a diverse landscape...I was so amazed once I started exploring! If you visit Greece I highly recommend spending some time exploring the mainland and not just the islands :) though the islands are beautiful also!

We had planned to explore the mainland last October but we ended up going to Rhodes. I was a little disappointed but it was very short notice so we had to take what we could get.

I found a lovely airbnb on the outskirts of Athens but it was booked out for a couple of the days we wanted to be there. It's ready for another time though!

Let me know next time you make it to Greece and I'll be happy to give you some mainland or off the beaten path recommendations :)

Excellent! Thank you. I'm always looking for good off the beaten track recommendations. 😍

Awesome photos! Greece is beautiful, i've been there!

its an amazing country!
