Ready for Liftoff 【Beautiful Japan #24】

This little guy is called a mejiro. In English his name is Japanese White-Eye, but since the Japanese is shorter and easier to say, I propose we all use that. He loves sweet things, and so it is common to find him hovering near the plum blossoms every Feburary/March.

Mejiro are small and fast, darting around like hummingbirds, so they aren't the easiest to catch, but forgoing the tripod and running after them, you can sometimes catch a few.

Looks like this one just finished his meal and was about to take off in search of more.

          Beautiful!I spent 3 years at Yakoto Air Base outside Fusa City. I do miss the cherry blossom trees and the breathtaking views of Mt. Fugi. Japan is a beautiful country.
