India: Kerala Govt—Blockchain Deployment Will Aid Supply Chain Network
Kerala Government is in the process of implementing blockchain technology to ease and improve supply chain network. It will help in streamlining purchase and distribution of everyday essentials such as vegetables, milk and fish across vendors in the Southern India state.
This project will be implemented via Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) which is the government's think tank for formulating and implementation of new technologies.
Infact recently, K-DISC launched a major programme to train students in Blockchain technology. By doing so it is providing them with the early-mover advantage in this system, which has huge job potential in India and abroad.
In the dairy sector, the project will ensure speedydelivery of high quality milk by continuously monitoringproduction, procurement and distribution through an electronicledger, Chairman of K-DISC, K M Abraham said. Each component of the supply network will have a separateID number, using which the source and quality of the productcan be checked at every point of the chain, he said to NDTV
It's incredible how certain state governments are moving ahead with this technology. Implementing an electronic ledge to track with a combination of tech such as RFID Tags, Mobile apps, IOT in order to track logistics movements amongst other things will make it easier.
Blockchain technology in crop insurance would help avoid time-lag in the assessment and delivery of compensation to farmers who suffer losses due to natural calamities, he said. It will make the entire process, starting from making applications for coverage to the settlement of claims hassle-free and time-saving.
Blockchain technology has various applications and use cases. It's great to see the government find a unique usecase in supply chain management where they can track the process of farming fishes to procurement, logistic movement to and fro packaging centers and trade.
This project is also likely to create new jobs and the IT personnel who run this project are likely to find themselves equipped to build newer solutions for other similar implementations in nearby states which may have similar requirements.
Overall this is a great move from the Kerala government. Accelerated Blockchain Competency Development (ABCD) project from K-DISC is going to help many students find jobs in the blockchain sector which is a fantastic move on their part!

Well this good news for Keralites. Hopefully this can put back some life in the blockchain movement in India. The government has been acting like goons but maybe state governments can take some steps to counter Central governments stupidity.
Superb news! No wonder Kerala has the highest literacy rate in the country. Yesterday one of my friends told me that their startup is not taking up projects from Japanese and Korean clients based on Blockchain Technology for their internal processes. The more knowledge we gain, the more adaptation will grow.

It is a very great move. I have requested @sathyasankar to study programming and also apply for the govt. fund for startups. They even send students overseas free of cost to collaborate with companies like microsoft but not many appreciate what kerala does, especially the contribution towards the nursing sector. thanks for writing about it
