Dear Steemit Friends,
Here we are again in the second week of the contest Unforgettable Italy (click here to read more), which already with the first photographs has been able to meet expectations and to highlight, through the shots of the exceptional photographers who took part in the initiative, some wonderful places in Italy.
As other users have already chosen to do, for this second participation in the competition I decided to focus my attention no longer on a photo of a place or a landscape, but on something that characterises our peninsula in an unequivocal way in the world: how can I not bring to your attention the pizza, the most famous Italian food, as well as the word of the Italian language best known in the universe.
The Neapolitan origin of pizza as we know it today, dating back to the 19th century, is well known, but perhaps some people are unaware that the word 'pizza' was already used in some Latin documents found in the city of Gaeta at the end of the 10th century and that an ancestor of pizza, small in size and kneaded mainly with spelt flour, was already present in ancient Rome under the name Offa.
However things went in antiquity, in my time on this earth I have yet to meet a person who was not a pizza lover; the one you see in the photo is specifically our homemade version, usually prepared on Saturday evenings to celebrate, in the Giacomo Leopardi style, il dì di festa (the coming festive day).
Aside from the classic tomato and mozzarella base, we like to fill our pizza with a little bit of whatever is in the fridge, be it cheese, sliced meats or vegetables: as you can see from the photo, taken with my Huawei P30, on this occasion our stomachs were also filled with ham, stracchino cheese and onions.
Perhaps the shape is not perfect and the general appearance might make purists turn up their noses, but I assure you that with every bite you feel as if you are taking a little trip back to the time of Queen Margherita of Savoy, who might have been intrigued by my version and asked Raffaele Esposito for a little something extra.

Cari amici di Steemit,
rieccoci a partecipare anche nella seconda settimana al contest Unforgettable Italy (clicca qui per saperne di più), che già con le prime fotografie è stato in grado di rispettare le attese e di mettere in risalto, attraverso gli scatti degli eccezionali fotografi che hanno preso parte all'iniziativa, alcuni posti meravigliosi dell'Italia.
Come già scelto di fare da altri utenti, per questa seconda partecipazione al concorso anche io ho pensato di puntare l'attenzione non più sulla foto di un luogo o di un paesaggio, ma di concentrarmi su un qualcosa che caratterizzi la nostra penisola in maniera inequivocabile nel mondo: come non portare quindi alla vostra attenzione la pizza, il piatto italiano più famoso, nonchè la parola della lingua italiana più conosciuta nell'universo.
L'origine napoletana della pizza come la conosciamo ai giorni nostri, risalente al XIX secolo, è nota ormai a tutti, ma forse qualcuno ignora che la parola "pizza" veniva già usata in alcuni documenti in latino ritrovati nella città di Gaeta alla fine del X secolo e che un antenato della stessa, di dimensioni ridotte ed impastata principalmente con farina di farro, era già presente nell'antica Roma con il nome di Offa.
Comunque siano andate le cose nell'antichità, nel mio percorso su questa terra non ho ancora conosciuto una persona che non fosse amante della pizza; quella che vedete nella foto è in particolare la nostra versione casalinga, di solito preparata il sabato sera per festeggiare, alla maniera del Leopardi, il dì di festa che sta per arrivare.
A parte la classica base di pomodoro e mozzarella, a noi piace farcire la pizza con un po' tutto quello che si trova nel frigorifero, che siano formaggi, affettati o vegetali: come potete notare dalla foto, scattata con il mio Huawei P30, in quell'occasione a riempire il nostro stomaco ci hanno pensato anche prosciutto, stracchino e cipolle.
Forse la forma non è perfetta e l'aspetto generale potrebbe far storcere il naso ai puristi, ma vi assicuro che ad ogni morso sembra quasi di compiere un piccolo viaggio ai tempi della Regina Margherita di Savoia, che magari vedendo la mia versione si sarebbe fatta ingolosire, ed avrebbe chiesto a Raffaele Esposito una piccola aggiunta.

Non male per essere una pizza fatta in casa, sembra davvero interessante.

The highlight of Italian cuisine is the very attitude of Italians towards food and the process of preparing dishes and the very process of eating.
