In a week with no top-flight clashes, apart from the one in Bergamo between Atalanta and Lazio, all the big teams in our league were called upon to perform tasks that were not too difficult to overcome, and none of them disappointed expectations, even if the victories came in some cases with a little more apprehension.
The leader Milan, after two consecutive defeats, in the championship against Atalanta and in the Italian Cup against Inter, wins in Bologna thanks to two penalties awarded by the referee Doveri (that I personally consider one of the worst of the Serie A), which bring the total of the penalties whistled in favour of the Rossoneri in this championship to 14 out of nineteen matches (second in this special ranking are Juventus, Roma and Sassuolo, far behind at 5).
If the second of the two, scored by Kessie, seemed rather clear and the result of a naivety of the Bolognese rearguard, for the first, missed by Ibrahimovic, but repeated in the goal by the prompt rebound of Rebic, I find it difficult to say the same thing; Referee issues aside, fundamental in the victory of the Rossoneri was the goalkeeper Donnarumma, who with providential saves prevented several times to the opponents the goal, both in the first half and in the final minutes, when the goal of the former player Poli had reopened the match.
In spite of the three points obtained and the maintenance of the first position, the descending parabola of Milan seemed to me to be confirmed also in Bologna. Let's be clear: I think the Rossoneri are a very good team, regenerated against all odds by Pioli and by the right market choices, but at some times the lack of quality in the roster, compared to Inter and Juventus, still emerges strongly, so that I still believe that in the end they will not win the Scudetto.
This championship has really only one logical favourite, for the quality and depth of the squad, and it can only be Antonio Conte's Inter**, able to get rid of a not very combative Benevento with disarming simplicity. The Nerazzurri, in addition to the extraordinary offensive potential given to them by the attacking duo Lukaku-Lautaro Martinez, seem to have also recovered the quality of Christian Eriksen, author of a great performance in which he caused the own goal of Improta after a few minutes and hit a crossbar in the second half.
The 4-0 final indicated much more than a simple victory against a newly promoted team, but also the maturity of a team that, although not yet completely freed from some empty passages, is now able to face every opponent with the awareness of its own strength, increasing from time to time its self-esteem. Only a few grains of dust can send out of phase the gears polished by Conte, and these could coincide with the black and white colour.
The two challenges in a week against Juventus, valid for the semifinals of the Italian Cup, could launch Inter towards a triumphant ride in the championship, or bring back some autumn ghosts that had taken up residence at the Pinetina on the occasion of the unfortunate elimination from the European cups. What is certain remains that for the Nerazzurri there could not have been a worse time of the year to face Juventus, who appeared to be on the right track to take that road of continuity that has been missing since the beginning of the season.
In Genoa, against Sampdoria, the team of Andrea Pirlo has obtained the fourth success in a row, although in three different competitions, and in all the games has been able to not concede goals, thanks to the return to the team of captain Giorgio Chiellini, a man capable of giving balance and security to the defensive department.
Against Sampdoria, The Old Lady has shown merits and faults that have been accompanying her since the first match, alternating phases of pleasant offensive movement with others of sudden loss, but the general feeling is of overall growth, abruptly interrupted in San Siro away match against Inter.

I believe that the double semi-final of the Italian Cup will be the watershed for the rest of the Juventus season: eliminating Inter, or at least playing it to the end, could make the group make that last step in conviction and self-esteem necessary to contend for the Scudetto to the Milanese teams, but losing badly would have a catastrophic effect on the group, especially on some elements, such as Bentancur, Alex Sandro, Arthur, Dybala, but sometimes even the same Ronaldo, more likely to be pulled by the team when things are going well than to get it out of quicksand in difficult times.
AS Roma, even if inside a rather difficult corporate moment and grappling with the Dzeko issue, defeated clearly Verona thanks to an excellent first half, continuing to alternate in a very mysterious way superlative performances to inexplicable debacles. The team seems to reflect on the field what happens in the offices of the management and also for the group of Fonseca the next game against Juventus could show a lot about the continuation of the season: so far the Giallorossi have never won against one of the first eight teams in the standings and the opportunity to relaunch in a definitive way at least for a place valid for the next Champions League seems a good one against Juve that could be distracted by the Coppa Italia.
In a sort of European play-off, Lazio avenged the elimination from the Coppa Italia by defeating Atalanta at home, which remains an absolutely unpredictable character because it can beat anyone when in form, but also lose naively against opponents who are inferior. Now the team, in clear improvement in recent weeks, has passed the team from Bergamo to fifth place, hooking also Napoli of Gattuso, returning to insert itself in the fight for fourth place.

In the Neapolitan city, after all, the victory obtained against Parma did not succeed in calming the waters and the discontent of the coach, who was not at all reluctant to attack the environment and also the president De Laurentiis, who, according to him, was guilty of not having defended him from the heavy criticism suffered in recent weeks. As it often happens, the truth is probably in the middle: Gattuso is not a coach capable of making a team more than its real value, and for a couple of years now the team of Napoli is evidently not more valuable than a place from fifth down.
At the bottom of the standings, the unstoppable march of Genoa continues, now over six points from the third last position, but also the crisis of Cagliari and Parma, sucked into the relegation zone against all odds, as well as the chronic crisis of Torino, which has collected four points in the last five games.
The next day will be still favourable to AC Milan, who will host Crotone, while Inter will travel to Florence, the day before the real big match of the day between Juventus and Roma.

in una settimana senza scontri al vertice, se si eccettua quello che a Bergamo ha messo di fronte Atalanta e Lazio, tutte le grandi squadre del nostro campionato erano chiamate ad impegni non troppo difficili da superare, e nessuna di esse ha deluso le aspettative, anche se le vittorie sono arrivate in alcuni casi con un pizzico di apprensione in più di quanto era lecito aspettarsi.
La capolista Milan, proveniente da due sconfitte consecutive, in campionato contro l'Atalanta e in Coppa Italia con l'Inter, passa a Bologna grazie a due calci di rigore assegnati dall'arbitro Doveri (che personalmente ritengo uno dei peggiori della Serie A), che portano il totale delle massime punizioni fischiate in favore dei rossoneri in questo campionato a 14 su diciannove partite (seconde in questa speciale classifica risultano Juventus, Roma e Sassuolo molto distanziate a quota 5).
Se il secondo dei due, realizzato da Kessie, è apparso piuttosto netto e frutto di un'ingenuità della retroguardia bolognese, per il primo, fallito da Ibrahimovic, ma ribadito in rete dalla pronta respinta di Rebic, mi risulta difficile dire la stessa cosa; questioni arbitrali a parte, fondamentale nella vittoria dei rossoneri è risultato essere il portiere Donnarumma, che con interventi provvidenziali ha impedito più volte agli avversari il goal, sia nel primo tempo, sia nei minuti finali, quando la rete dell'ex Poli aveva riaperto la gara.
Nonostante i tre punti ottenuti e il mantenimento della prima posizione, la parabola discendente del Milan mi è sembrata tuttavia confermata anche a Bologna. Intendiamoci: ritengo i rossoneri un'ottima squadra, rigenerata contro ogni pronostico da Pioli e da azzeccate scelte di mercato, ma in alcuni frangenti il difetto di qualità della rosa, rispetto all'Inter e alla Juventus emerge ancora prepotentemente, tanto che continuo a ritenere che alla fine non saranno loro a vincere lo scudetto.
Questo campionato ha in realtà, per qualità e profondità della rosa, un'unica logica favorita, e non può che essere l'Inter di Antonio Conte, capace di sbarazzarsi con disarmante semplicità di un poco combattivo Benevento. I nerazzurri, oltre allo straordinario potenziale offensivo loro regalato dal duo d'attacco Lukaku-Lautaro Martinez, sembrano aver ritrovato anche la qualità di Christian Eriksen, autore di una prova maiuscola nella quale ha provocato l'autorete di Improta dopo pochi minuti e colpito una traversa nel secondo tempo.
Il 4-0 finale ha indicato ben di più di una semplice vittoria nei confronti di una squadra neo promossa, ma anche la maturità di una squadra che, sebbene non sia ancora del tutto liberata da alcuni passaggi a vuoto, riesce ad affrontare ormai ogni avversario con la consapevolezza della propria forza, alimentando di volta in volta la propria autostima. Solo qualche granello di polvere può mandare fuori fase gli ingranaggi lucidati da Conte, e questi potrebbero coincidere avere il colore bianconero.
Le due sfide in una settimana alla Juventus, valevoli per le semifinali di Coppa Italia, potrebbero lanciare l'Inter verso una cavalcata trionfale anche in campionato, o far tornare alcuni fantasmi autunnali che avevano piazzato le tende alla Pinetina in occasione della sciagurata eliminazione dalla coppe europee. Quel che è certo rimane che per i nerazzurri non poteva esserci un periodo dell'anno peggiore per affrontare la Juventus, apparsa sulla buona strada per intraprendere quel cammino di continuità che manca dall'inizio della stagione.
A Genova, contro la Sampdoria, la squadra di Andrea Pirlo ha ottenuto il quarto successo di fila, sebbene in tre competizioni diverse, ed in tutte le partite è riuscita a mantenere la propria porta inviolata, grazie anche al ritorno in squadra di capitan Giorgio Chiellini, uomo in gradi di dare equilibrio e sicurezza al reparto arretrato.
Contro i blucerchiati, Madama ha evidenziato pregi e difetti che la accompagnano fin dalla prima partita, alternando fasi di piacevole manovra offensiva ad altre di improvviso smarrimento, ma la sensazione generale che se ricava è di crescita generale, interrotta bruscamente proprio nella trasferta di San Siro contro l'Inter.
Credo che la doppia semifinale di Coppa Italia farà da spartiacque per il resto della stagione juventina: eliminare l'Inter, o quanto meno giocarsela fino in fondo, potrebbe far compiere al gruppo quell'ultimo step in convinzione e autostima necessario a contendere fino in fondo lo scudetto alle milanesi, ma perdere malamente avrebbe un effetto catastrofico sul gruppo, specialmente su alcuni elementi, come Bentancur, Alex Sandro, Arthur, Dybala, ma a volte anche lo stesso Ronaldo, più propensi ad essere trainati dalla squadra quando le cose vanno bene che a farla uscire dalle sabbie mobili nei momenti difficili.
La Roma, seppur all'interno di un momento societario piuttosto difficile e alle prese con la grana Dzeko, batte nettamente il Verona grazie ad un ottimo primo tempo, continuando ad alternare in modo assai misterioso prestazioni superlative a debacle inspiegabili. La squadra sembra rispecchiare anche sul campo quanto succede negli uffici della dirigenza e anche per il gruppo di Fonseca la prossima partita con la Juventus potrebbe dire molto sul proseguimento della stagione: fino ad oggi i giallorossi non hanno mai vinto contro una delle prime otto squadre della classifica e l'occasione di rilanciarsi in maniera definitiva almeno per un posto valevole per la prossima Champions League sembra ghiotta contro una Juve che potrebbe essere distratta dalla Coppa Italia.
In una sorta di spareggio in chiave europea, la Lazio si vendica dell'eliminazione dalla Coppa Italia regolando a domicilio l'Atalanta, che rimane una creatura assolutamente impronosticabile poiché in grado di battere chiunque quando in forma, ma anche di perdere in maniera ingenua contro avversari sulla carta inferiori. Ora la squadra biancoceleste, in netta ripresa nelle ultime settimane, ha scavalcato i bergamaschi al quinto posto, agganciando anche il Napoli di Gattuso, tornando ad inserirsi prepotentemente nella lotta per il quarto posto.
Nella città partenopea del resto, la vittoria ottenuta contro il Parma non è riuscita a calmare le acque e i malumori del tecnico calabrese, per nulla restio nello scagliarsi contro l'ambiente e anche contro il presidente De Laurentiis, reo a suo dire di non averlo difeso dalle pesanti critiche subite nelle scorse settimane. Come spesso accade, la verità sta probabilmente nel mezzo: Gattuso non è un tecnico capace di far rendere una rosa più del suo effettivo valore, e da un paio di anni a questa parte quella del Napoli evidentemente non vale più di un posto dal quinto in giù.
Sul fondo della classifica continua la marcia inarrestabile del Genoa, ormai sopra di ben sei punti dalla terz'ultima posizione, ma anche la crisi di Cagliari e Parma, risucchiate in piena zona retrocessione contro ogni pronostico, così come quella cronica del Torino, che ha raccolto quattro punti nelle ultime cinque partite.
La prossima giornata vedrà ancora un turno favorevole al Milan, che ospiterà il Crotone, mentre per l'Inter è in programma la trasferta di Firenze, il giorno prima del vero big match della giornata tra Juventus e Roma.
