The Genoa stadium was sold out and the importance of the match was in the air from the first minutes: as usual, the two teams faced each other openly and both had at least a couple of good chances each to take the lead, but the decisive action came only in the first minutes of the second half, when a foul in the area by Galia on Roberto Mancini allowed Sampdoria to take a penalty kick, converted by Vialli.
In spite of the guests' attempts, the result remained unchanged and thanks to the simultaneous draw of Inter on the field of Roma, Sampdoria could celebrate the solitary supremacy in the ranking, which it would keep until the end of the season when it would be crowned, for the first and only time in its history, champion of Italy.
Juventus' most exciting victory

On the last day of the 1976/77 championship, Sampdoria and Juventus found themselves in Marassi for a challenge, sportingly speaking, dramatic: The Bianconeri are competing for the Scudetto with their city rivals of Torino, just one point behind them in the standings and at home against Genoa, who are already certain of safety, while Sampdoria, third last, absolutely must win to give up their last hopes of catching up with Foggia and play in a possible play-off for staying in the Serie A.
While in Turin Genoa seemed to have gone on a company trip, having conceded three goals to their rivals after little more than a quarter of an hour, Sampdoria used every ounce of energy to win the game, but despite numerous chances on both sides, the first half ended 0-0.
The team from Piedmont, who four days earlier had just won their first international trophy, the Uefa Cup in the final against Athletic Bilbao, took to the field in the second half with renewed physical and mental energy, and Bettega's goal after fifteen minutes got the celebrations started, completed by Boninsegna's double in the final minutes.
Juventus celebrated their seventeenth championship, while Sampdoria was relegated to the Serie B.
Sampdoria's biggest victory

Two teams without much ambition for the top of the table faced each other in Genoa in the last match of the first half of the 1954/55 season. In fact, on the eve of the match, Juventus were already seven points behind Milan, in fifth place, while the home team needed to win in order to get away from the bottom of the table, where they had fallen in the last few days.
Without three stars of the calibre of Boniperti, Muccinelli and Corradi, the Bianconeri's opposition to the agonistic fury of the adversaries was little, and the Ligurians capitalised twice, in the second minute with Rosa and on the half-hour with Ronzon, on their athletic superiority.
The second half was, if possible, even worse than the first for the Piedmontese, who conceded three more goals, interspersed only by the goal of the Danish striker Bronee, in forty-five minutes very similar to a shot on target against the goal defended by goalkeeper Giovanni Viola.
The championship ended with Juventus unable to go beyond seventh place, three points above Sampdoria, ninth.
Juventus' biggest victory

A Juventus already mathematically champion of Italy went down to Genoa on the last day of the championship to celebrate its eighth Scudetto. In the year following the Superga tragedy, which saw the disappearance of the Grande Torino team, the Bianconeri prevailed over the Milanese teams and their city rivals, who were able to conquer a dignified sixth place with a totally new team.
In the match at Marassi, in a festive atmosphere also for the simultaneous salvation obtained by the home team, a goal by Muccinelli at the end of the first half gave the Bianconeri the lead, who sealed their domination with a hat-trick by Boniperti in the second half.

In mezzo alla gara delle due squadre milanesi però, gli appassionati di calcio potranno assistere anche alla partita dei campioni d'Italia della Juventus, che dopo le ultime tre vittorie, ottenute in altrettante partite (sebbene in competizioni diverse), proveranno a rimanere in scia al treno scudetto meneghino, andando a caccia dei tre punti allo stadio Luigi Ferraris di Genova, dove ad attenderli troveranno la Sampdoria di Claudio Ranieri.
Se nel pronostico degli scommetitori, la squadra di Andrea Pirlo appare come favorita, occorre comunque prestare attenzione all'ottimo ruolino di marcia tenuto dalla Sampdoria in questo campionato, specialmente contro le grandi squadre (ne sanno qualcosa Atalanta, Lazio e Inter, già battute dai liguri); l'anno scorso vinsero i bianconeri 2-1, con due grandi goal segnati da Cristiano Ronaldo e Dybala che fecero aumentare il vantaggio statistico dei piemontesi nella casella delle vittorie nelle 62 sfide precedenti (23 a 21).
Ma se il pareggio manca addirittura dal 2011, va tenuto in considerazione anche il fatto che il risultato più presente nella sfida è l'1-1, segno che spesso le due squadre si sono equivalse, pur affrontandosi a viso aperto. Alla quarta giornata di ritorno del campionato successivo ai mondiali italiani, la Sampdoria, prima in classifica a pari merito con l'Inter di Giovanni Trapattoni, riceve la Juventus, altra pretendente per lo scudetto, staccata solamente di un punto.
Lo stadio genovese è esaurito in ogni ordine di posti e l'importanza della sfida si respira nell'aria fin dai primi minuti: come da tradizione, le due squadre si affrontano a viso aperto ed entrambe hanno almeno un paio di buone occasioni a testa per portarsi in vantaggio, ma l'azione decisova avverrà solo nei primi minuti della ripresa, quando un fallo in area di Galia su Roberto Mancini permetterà alla Sampdoria di battere un calcio di rigore, trasformato da Vialli.
Nonostante i tentativi degli ospiti, il risultato rimarrà invariato e grazie al contemporaneo pareggio dell'Inter sul campo della Roma, la Sampdoria potrà festeggiare il primato solitario in classifica, che manterrà fino alla fine della stagione nella quale si laureerà, per la prima ed unica volta nella sua storia, campione d'Italia.
La più bella vittoria della Juventus

All'ultima giornata del campionato 1976/77, Sampdoria e Juventus si ritrovano a Marassi per una sfida, sportivamente parlando, drammatica: i bianconeri si giocano lo scudetto con i rivali cittadini del Torino, distanziati di un solo punto in classifica ed impegnati in casa con il Genoa, già certo della salvezza, mentre la Sampdoria, terzultima, deve assolutiamente vincere per dar fondo alle ultime speranze di agganciare il Foggia e giocarsi in un eventuale spareggio la permanenza in Serie A.
Mentre a Torino il Genoa sembra essere andato in gita aziendale, avendo concesso tre goal ai rivali dopo poco più di un quarto d'ora, la Sampdoria impiega ogni briciolo di energia per vincere la partita, ma nonostante le numerose occasioni, da una parte e dall'altra, il primo tempo termina 0-0.
La squadra piemontese, che quattro giorni prima ha appena vinto il suo primo trofeo internazionale, aggiudicandosi la Coppa Uefa nella finale contro l'Athletic Bilbao, scende in campo nella ripresa con ritrovate energie fisiche e mentali, e il goal di Bettega, dopo quindici minuti, può far iniziare la festa, completata dal raddoppio di Boninsegna nei minuti finali.
La Juventus festeggerà così il suo diciassettesimo scudetto, mentre per la Sampdoria ci sarà l'epilogo amaro della retrocessione in Serie B.
La vittoria più larga della Sampdoria

Sono due squadre senza troppe ambizioni di alta classifica, quelle che si affrontano a Genova nell'ultima partita del girone d'andata della stagione 1954/55. Alla vigilia della partita infatti, la Juventus è staccata già sette punti dalla capolista Milan, trovandosi al quinto posto, mentre i padroni di casa si trovano nella situazione di dover necessariamente vincere, per allontanarsi dai bassifondi della classifica nei quali sono precipitati nelle ultime giornate.
Senza tre stelle del calibro di Boniperti, Muccinelli e Corradi, l'opposizione bianconera alla furia agonistica degli avversari è ben poca cosa, e i liguri capitalizzano due volte, al secondo minuto con Rosa e alla mezz'ora con Ronzon, la loro superiorità atletica.
Il secondo tempo è, se possibile, ancora peggio del primo per i piemontesi, che subiscono altre tre reti, intervallate solo dal goal dell'attaccante danese Bronee, in quarantacinque minuti molto simili ad un tiro a bersaglio nei confronti della porta difesa dal portiere Giovanni Viola.
Il campionato terminerà con la Juventus incapace di andare oltre il settimo posto, tre punti sopra la Sampdoria, nona.
La vittoria più larga della Juventus

Una Juventus già matematicamente campione d'Italia, scende a Genova nell'ultima giornata di campionato per festeggiare il suo ottavo scudetto. Nell'anno successivo alla tragedia di Superga, che ha visto la scomparsa della squadra del Grande Torino, i bianconeri hanno prevalso infatti nei confronti delle squadre milanesi e degli stessi rivali cittadini, capaci di conquistare con una squadra totalmente nuova, un dignitoso sesto posto.
Nella gara di Marassi, in un clima festoso anche per la contemporanea salvezza ottenuta dalla squadra di casa, un goal di Muccinelli allo scadere del primo tempo porta in vantaggio i bianconeri, che suggelleranno il loro dominio con la tripletta di Boniperti nella ripresa.
