Italian Cup review (quarter-finals) - Coppa Italia review (quarti di finale) [ENG-ITA]

the Italian Cup travels at the speed of light, if you consider that only last week we talked about the chapter of the round of 16 and in the middle of next week the semifinals will be staged; in between, the quarter-finals have almost entirely respected my predictions, offering in some cases spectacular challenges, although all decided within the limit of regular time.
In the match considered most uncertain, the one opposing the two Milanese teams, the Inter beat the Milan only at the end of an infinite recovery time granted by the referee Chiffi (initially fourth man, but he took over the field due to the injury occurred to the first referee Valeri), thanks to a free kick shot by Christian Eriksen, for the first time decisive since he wears the Nerazzurri shirt.
Milan, undoubtedly off to a better start than their rivals, had found the momentary lead thanks to a piece of skill in the box by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but the Swede, who had been a decisive man in the first half for the Rossoneri, became nervous shortly before half-time in a spat (which he provoked) with Lukaku and to the yellow card he received in that episode he added a second for a needless foul committed in midfield just before the quarter-hour mark of the second half, which left his team with ten players.
Everything that seemed to have gone right for Milan in the first half of the season has turned its back on the winter champions in recent weeks: A second ingenuousness, this time committed by Leao, who hit Barella in the area by sliding his leg, gave the equalizing goal on a penalty kick to Inter, and the injury of the referee Valeri added a very long recovery to the already exhausted Rossoneri legs, which could not do anything about the free kick converted by the newly-entered Eriksen just moments before extra time.
The clamorous mistake of Ibrahimovic, who this time seems to have fallen victim to the same provocations of which he loves to boast so much to his opponents, has probably given the semi-final to Inter, and someone even claims that this is not the end of it, and that the serious phrases addressed by the Swedish forward to Lukaku ("go with your mother to do your voodoo rites of s...t) risk costing the Milan star a heavy disqualification, if they are considered in any way racist or discriminatory at the end of the investigation launched by the federal prosecutor's office.
In the semi-final, therefore, Antonio Conte's men will find again Juventus, which they faced and beat only a few days ago. The Italian champions got rid of Spal, a team from second division (which should be applauded for their progress in the event), without too much effort, beating them 4-0 with two goals per half.

If the result seemed predictable since the eve of the match, the bianconeri were able to take advantage of the round to show off some jewels of the under 23 formation, such as Frabotta (who has joined the first team and is also able to score a goal), the Romanian defender Dragusin, who has been on the note of several European scouts and the very young midfielder Nicolò Fagioli, born in 2001 but already able to go from the under 19 team to the under 23.
However this season ends on a sporting level, it will be remembered as the first in which Juventus was able to reap the benefits of the under-23 project; despite the proclamations made by several clubs a few years ago, the Bianconeri are the only ones to have believed in the innovation of the second team, and now several young talents are moved, occasionally or permanently, to the first teams, enriching the roster of future elements of value or in any case of much-needed capital gains on the market.
In the double match against the Nerazzurri, Juventus are the underdogs, even if practically everyone has hastened to underline that these two matches will be different from those of the championship; in reality, Inter, who have the strongest squad in terms of quality and numbers in Serie A, will be able to afford rotations that alter the quality of the starting eleven less than those of the Old Lady, and this, especially from the point of view of the double match, can give a considerable advantage.
Atalanta and Lazio, two teams announced as being in great form on the eve of the match, lived up to the promise of a great spectacle. The rematch of the 2019 final was as exciting as the championship match played in Bergamo last summer: after a 2-2 first half characterised by hard play by both defences, the Lombardy team was outnumbered throughout the second half when Romero was sent off, but still managed to score the winning goal on a deadly counter-attack by Miranchuk.

What is amazing about Gasperini's team is not only the ease with which they manage to find the way to the goal once all the mechanisms of the game are working perfectly, but also their ability to react to the adverse moments of the match. Hardly ever does Atalanta lose their heads and when you play against them, you can only hope that the gears of the team are covered in dust, or bringing home the skin intact can become very difficult, as known even to some top European teams.
In the last match of the quarter-finals, played last night, Napoli took a little revenge on Spezia, who had beaten the neapolitans at home only a few days before; with the head already to the fundamental next championship match against Udinese, the Ligurians played an embarrassing first half in terms of concentration, which allowed the strikers of Napoli to pierce the opponent's defense like a hot knife in butter and to go to the rest already 4-0.
The two goals in quick succession of Spezia, realized in the second half, revived slightly the last part of the match, but the qualification of the men of Gattuso was never substantially in question. It's a pity, because the La Spezia team has shown in recent weeks to be going through a phase of growth and to have a good identity of the gameplay and I'm sure that with a bit less resignation and a little more concentration, the qualification could have been much more difficult.
Now the doors of the double challenge against Atalanta are opening for Napoli, in which I see the Gasperini's player as the clear favourites. Attention, however, because even last season the Campania team, far from the top positions in the standings, decided to concentrate most of their energies on the second national competition, and it is not certain that this year the choice will not be repeated. Fundamental, in view of the qualification, will be the rotation that the two coaches will intend to apply to the starting eleven, and Gattuso could, unlike his colleague, decide to preserve the best for the Cup, sacrificing perhaps the championship games near the challenge.
In ten days, at the end of the return matches, we will know the two finalists, who will compete in May for the 74th edition of the Coppa Italia: the hope of all the fans is that on that date the Olimpico stadium in Rome, the designated venue for the final for several years now, will allow at least part of the two fans to enter, which would make the match the most beautiful and eagerly awaited final ever.

la Coppa Italia viaggia alla velocità della luce, se si considera che solo la settimana scorsa abbiamo affrontato il capitolo degli ottavi di finale e a metà della prossima andranno in scena le semifinali; in mezzo, i quarti di finale hanno rispettato quasi interamente i miei pronostici, regalando in alcuni casi sfide spettacolari, sebbene tutte decise nel limite dei tempi regolamentari.
Nella partita sulla carta più incerta, quella che opponeva le due squadre milanesi, l'Inter ha avuto la meglio sul Milan solo al termine di un infinito tempo di recupero concesso dall'arbitro Chiffi (inizialmente quarto uomo, ma subentrato in campo per l'infortunio occorso al primo arbitro Valeri), grazie ad un calcio di punizione battuto da Christian Eriksen, per la prima volta decisivo da quando veste la maglia nerazzurra.
Il Milan, senza dubbio partito meglio dei rivali, aveva trovato la rete del momentaneo vantaggio grazie ad un gran numero in area di Zlatan Ibrahimovic, ma lo svedese, uomo in più nel primo tempo per i rossoneri, si è innervosito poco prima dell'intervallo nel battibecco (da lui provocato) con Lukaku e al cartellino giallo rimediato nell'episodio, ne ha aggiunto un secondo per un fallo inutile commesso a centrocampo, poco prima del quarto d'ora della ripresa, che ha lasciato così la sua squadra in dieci uomini.
Tutto ciò che nella prima parte di stagione sembra essere andato nel verso giusto al Milan, da qualche settimana ha come voltato le spalle ai campioni d'inverno: una seconda ingenuità, questa volta commessa da Leao, che in area colpisce Barella in scivolata con la gamba di richiamo, regala il goal del pareggio su rigore all'Inter, e l'infortunio dell'arbitro Valeri aggiunge un recupero lunghissimo alle già stremate gambe rossonere, che nulla possono sul calcio di punizione trasformato dal neoentrato Eriksen a pochi istanti dai tempi supplementari.
Il clamoroso errore di Ibrahimovic, che questa volta sembra rimasto vittima delle stesse provocazioni delle quali ama tanto vantarsi con gli avversari, ha con buona probabilità regalato la semifinale all'Inter, e qualcuno sostiene addirittura che non sia finita qui, e che le pesanti frasi indirizzate dall'attaccante svedese all'indirizzo di Lukaku ("vai con tua madre a fare i tuoi riti voodoo di m...) rischiano di costare una pesante squalifica al fuoriclasse del Milan, se ritenute in qualche modo razziste o discriminatorie al termine delle indagine avviate dalla procura federale.
In semifinale pertanto gli uomini di Antonio Conte troveranno di nuovo la Juventus, affrontata e battuta nettamente solo pochi giorni fa. I campioni d'Italia si sono sbarazzati senza troppa fatica della Spal, formazione di Serie B (alla quale va comunque rivolto un plauso per il percorso fatto nella manifestazione), battuta nettamente 4-0 con due goal per tempo.
Se il pronostico appariva scontato fin dalla vigilia, i bianconeri sono stati abili a sfruttare il turno per mettere in mostra alcuni gioielli della formazione under 23, come Frabotta (aggregato ormai in piante stabile alla prima squadra e in grado di trovareanche il goal), il difensore rumeno Dragusin, finito sul taccuino di diversi osservatori europei e il giovanissimo centrocampista Nicolò Fagioli, classe 2001 ma già in grado di bruciare le tappe, passando dalla squadra Primavera all'under 23.
Comunque vada a finire questa stagione a livello sportivo, la stessa verrà ricordata come la prima nella quale la Juventus sia stata in grado di raccogliere i frutti del progetto under 23; nonostante i proclami lanciati da diverse società qualche anno addietro, i bianconeri sono gli unici ad aver creduto nell'innovazione delle seconde squadre, e ora diversi piccoli talenti vengono spostati, occasionalmente o in pianta stabile, tra i grandi, arricchendo la rosa di futuri elementi di valore o in ogni caso di quanto mai necessarie plusvalenze sul mercato.
Nella doppia sfida contro i nerazzurri la Juventus parte sfavorita, anche se praticamente tutti si sono affrettati a sottolineare che queste due partite saranno diverse da quelle del campionato; in realtà l'Inter, che dispone della rosa qualitativamente e numericamente più forte della Serie A, potrà permettersi rotazioni in grado di alterare meno la qualità dell'undici di partenza rispetto alla Vecchia Signora, e questo, sporattutto nell'ottica della doppia partita, può regalare un vantaggio non indifferente.
Atalanta e Lazio, due squadre annunciate in gran forma alla vigilia della sfida, hanno mantenuto le premesse di un grande spettacolo. La rivincita della finale del 2019 è stata rocambolesca, un po' come la partita di campionato disputata a Bergamo la scorsa estate: dopo un primo tempo terminato 2-2 e costellato dal gioco duro di entrambe le difese, la squadra lombarda si è trovata in inferiorità numerica in tutto il secondo tempo per l'espulsione di Romero, ma è stata comunque capace di segnare il goal della qualificazione in un micidiale contropiede finalizzato da Miranchuk.
Quello che stupisce della squadra di Gasperini è, oltre alla facilità con la quale riesce a trovare la via della rete una volta che tutti i meccanismi del gioco funzionano alla perfezione, anche la capacità di reazione ai momenti avversi della partita. Difficilmente l'Atalanta perde la testa e quando si gioca contro di loro, si può solo sperare che gli ingranaggi della Dea siano ricoperti di polvere, o portare a casa la pelle intatta può diventare molto difficile, come noto anche ad alcuni top team europei.
Nell'ultima partita dei quarti di finale, disputata ieri sera, il Napoli si è preso una piccola rivincita sullo Spezia, che aveva battuto a domicilio i partenopei solo pochi giorni prima; con la testa già alla fondamentale prossima gara di campionato contro l'Udinese, i liguri hanno disputato un primo tempo imbarazzante a livello di concentrazione, cosa che ha permesso agli attaccanti del Napoli di trafiggere la difesa avversaria come un coltello caldo nel burro e di andare al riposo già sul 4-0.
Le due reti in rapida successione dello Spezia, realizzate nella seconda metà del secondo tempo, hanno rianimato leggermente l'ultima parte della gara, ma la qualificazione degli uomini di Gattuso non è mai stata sostanzialmente in discussione. Peccato, perchè la formazione spezzina ha dimostrato nelle ultime settimane di attraversare una fase di crescita e di possedere un'ottima identità di gioco e sono certo che un briciolo di rassegnazione in meno e un po' di concentrazione in più, la qualificazione sarebbe potuta essere ben più combattuta.
Ora per il Napoli si aprono le porte della doppia sfida all'Atalanta, nella quale vedo gli orobici decisamente favoriti. Attenzione però, perchè anche nella passata stagione i campani, lontano dalle posizioni nobili della classifica, decisero di concentrare buona parte delle energie sulla seconda competizione nazionale, e non è detto che anche quest'anno la scelta non venga ripetuta. Fondamentali, nell'ottica della qualificazione, risulteranno le rotazioni che i due tecnici intenderanno applicare all'undici titolare, e Gattuso potrebbe, rispetto al suo collega, decidere di preservare i migliori per la Coppa, sacrificando magari le gare di campionato in prossimità della sfida.
Tra dieci giorni, al termine delle gare di ritorno, conosceremo le due finaliste, che si contenderanno a maggio la settantaquattresima edizione della Coppa Italia: la speranza di tutti gli appassionati è che per quella data lo stadio Olimpico di Roma, teatro designato della finale già da diversi anni, possa permettere l'ingresso almeno di una parte delle due tifoserie cosa che renderebbe la partita la finale più bella ed attesa di sempre.
