Dear Steemit friends, lovers of Italian football,
not even in the worst of the white and celestial nightmares could you imagine such an evening for Lazio, overwhelmed at home by the European and world champions of Bayern Munich for 4-1, but annihilated even beyond what the final result can let you imagine.
The fact that Simone Inzaghi's players started off as underdogs against their much better-ranked opponents is something that all Italian football fans are aware of, but the fact that the match, especially in the first half, gave the feeling of two teams at least a couple of categories apart, I think was not on the agenda even in the last battle plan, the one reserved for worst-case scenarios.

Those who have the goodness to read me will know that I definitely despise the attitudes of giving up too much, which for years have characterised Italian football, even in its highest expression (that of the multi-champion Juventus), but on the other hand I recognise that to face certain teams it is not advisable to use any other system than that of an orderly defence, supported by sudden and lightning fast counter-attacks.
Lazio had set the match up just like that, relying on the speed of Immobile and Correa and the raids of Lazzari and Marusic on the flanks to catch the Alaba-Boateng duo in the act, but Musacchio's blunder after just five minutes not only paved the way for the opposition, but also plunged the home team into a kind of depressed inferiority complex.
Throughout the match the Germans played a bit of cat and mouse, letting their opponents loose at certain times of the match without ever really perceiving their danger, and then hitting them with surgical precision whenever it seemed to them that the break had lasted long enough. The final sensation was that of having witnessed the classic summer match between the first team and the spring training, a clash between two teams that for long stretches seemed not only to be in different categories, but also playing a different sport.
The lesson will be hard to digest not only for the Capitoline team, but also for the whole Serie A: what is the level of Italian football today? If we consider that the first one in our league (Inter) didn't even manage to get through the first day phase of the Champions League and that all the others came out, some more and some less (with the exception of Roma) with broken bones from the pre-spring European round despite the fact that they were often up against opponents who were anything but irresistible, there is little to be happy about.
Italy's representatives haven't won a European trophy for eleven years now, a season in which Mourinho's Inter won the Champions League, while success in the second continental competition, the Europe League, has been missing since the last millennium (1999), when it was the turn of Parma to win the trophy. Often we dwell on the lack of ability to win in Europe of Juventus, but a more careful analysis, free of fan prejudice, shows that the whole Italian movement is in crisis.
In the next few years, especially after what has happened in the last year and a half, European football is likely to widen the gap between the top teams and the rest of the pack even further, thus leaving our teams even more on the margins of the games that count: some teams (essentially those of the sheikhs or large industrial groups) will be able to get away with absorbing the losses incurred by this situation within their properties, while the others will be destined to make do with the crumbs.

Cari amici di Steemit, amanti del calcio italiano,
nemmeno nel peggiore degli incubi biancocelesti si poteva immaginare una serata del genere per la Lazio, travolta in casa dai campioni d'Europa e del mondo del Bayern Monaco per 4-1, ma annichilita anche oltre quello che può lasciare immaginare il risultato finale.
Che gli uomini di Simone Inzaghi partissero sfavoriti contro i ben più quotati avversari, era cosa nota un po' a tutti gli appassionati di pallone italiano, ma che la partita, specialmente nel primo tempo, restituisse la sensazione di trovarsi di fronte a due squadre distanti tra loro almeno un paio di categorie, penso non fosse in programma nemmeno nell'ultimo piano di battaglia, quello riservato agli scenari peggiori.
Chi ha la bontà di leggermi saprà come io disprezzi decisamente gli atteggiamenti troppo rinunciatari, che per anni hanno caratterizzato il calcio italiano anche nella sua massima espressione (quella della Juventus pluri-campione d'Italia), ma d'altro canto riconosco che per affrontare determinate squadre non sia consigliabile altro sistema diverso da quello che prevede un'ordinata difesa, sorretta da improvvise e fulminee ripartenze.
La Lazio aveva impostato la partita proprio così, contando sulla veloctià di Immobile e Correa e sulle scorribande di Lazzari e Marusic sulle fasce, per prendere in infilata il duo Alaba-Boateng, ma la sciocchezza di Musacchio, commessa dopo appena cinque minuti, non solo ha spianato la strada agli avversari, ma ha anche fatto precipitare la squadra di casa in una sorta di depresso complesso di inferiorità.
Per tutta la partita i tedeschi hanno giocato un po' al gatto col topo, lasciando sfogare gli avversari in determinati momenti della gara senza tuttavia che se ne avesse mai reale percezione di pericolosità, per poi colpirli con chirurgica precisione ogni qualvolta sembrasse loro che la pausa fosse durata abbastanza. La sensazione finale è stata quella di aver assistito alla classica partita estiva tra la squadra titolare e la formazione primavera, uno scontro tra due squadre che per lunghi tratti sono sembrate non solo di categorie diverse, ma giocare anche uno sport diverso.
La lezione sarà pesante da digerire non solo per la formazione capitolina, ma anche per tutta la Serie A: qual è il livello del calcio italiano al giorno d'oggi? Se consideriamo che la prima in classifica del nostro campionato (Inter) non è riuscita nemmeno a superare la prima fase a giorni della Champions League e che tutte le altre sono uscite, chi più chi meno (ad eccezione della Roma) con le ossa rotte dal turno europeo pre-primaverile nonostante fossero opposte spesso ad avversari tutt'altro che irresistibili, c'è poco da stare allegri.
Le rappresentanti dell'Italia non portano a casa un trofeo europeo da ormai undici anni, stagione in cui l'Inter di Mourinho vinse la Champions League, mentre il successo nella seconda competizione continentale, l'Europa League, manca addirittura dal millennio scorso (1999), quando toccò al Parma aggiudicarsi il trofeo. Spesso ci si sofferma sulla mancata capacità di vincere in Europa della Juventus, ma ad un'analisi più attenta e priva di pregiudizi da tifoso non si può non notare come sia tutto il movimento italiano ad essere in crisi.
Nei prossimi anni, soprattutto dopo quanto accaduto in questo anno e mezzo, il calcio europeo rischia di ampliare ancora di più il divario tra le prime della classe e il resto del gruppo, lasciando così le nostre squadre ancora di più ai margini dei giochi che contano: alcune squadre (sostanzialmente quelle degli sceicchi o dei grossi gruppi industriali) riusciranno a cavarsela ammortizzando all'interno delle loro proprietà le perdite subite da questa situazione, le altre saranno destinate ad accontentarsi delle briciole.
