This evening at the Artemio Franchi stadium in Florence will be staged the match between Fiorentina and Inter, valid for the twenty-first day of Serie A, the second of the second half of the season. The two teams arrive at the challenge in the middle of a period not exactly exceptional, if we also consider the defeat in the Cup Italia suffered by Inter at the hands of Juventus, but pay attention to the Tuscans, who haven't lost at home since November, on the occasion of the first match on the purple bench of Prandelli, and who come from two victories in the friendly walls.
However, a careful analysis of the numbers shows that the prediction is obvious in favour of Antonio Conte's team, who can boast, among other things, twice as many points in the standings as their rivals, and an attack which, with just two main players, Lautaro Martinez and Lukaku, has so far scored more goals than the entire Fiorentina combined (24-21).
The first match in Serie A between the two clubs dates back to 1932 and it was won by the Tuscan team, capable of winning 3-0, and the total balance of the league matches played in Florence sees the hosts definitely ahead in the count of victories (28-18), although the most frequent result in the match between the two teams has been the draw, which has already occurred 34 times.
Inter haven't won at the home of Fiorentina since 2014, and in the last six matches in the Tuscan capital they have only drawn three times. The history of this match is full of rivalry, especially around the end of the 80s when midfielder Nicola Berti moved from the Tuscan team to the Nerazzurri, but also of clamorous technical gestures and agonism, which as usual we will relive in the following description of the best challenges between the two teams.
Fiorentina's most exciting victory
Fiorentina v Inter 1-0 (23 March 1969)
In the Artemio Franchi stadium filled with over fifty thousand spectators, armed with umbrellas and ignoring the pouring rain that welcomed the protagonists of the big match, Fiorentina and Inter faced each other on the eighth day of the return leg, in what immediately appeared to be a fundamental step towards the Scudetto.
The hosts started with decision, pushed by the enthusiasm of the public, and after a quarter of an hour of siege to the opponent's goal they found the advantage with Chiarugi, who headed the ball into the opponent's goal.
At the end of the first half Mazzola unbelievably wasted two opportunities to draw and in the second half the hosts were again dangerous on the counter-attack, but the result did not change. At the end of the season Fiorentina will win its second Scudetto, while Inter will finish fourth.
Inter's most exciting victory
Fiorentina v Inter 2-3 (9 September 2006)
Every legend has a beginning, and the legend of the winning Inter, destined to culminate in the triplete of 2010, began in Florence, on a September evening that coincided with the first day of the 2006/07 championship.
The home team, penalised by fifteen points in the league table following the events of the Calciopoli scandal, started with their foot on the accelerator, but at the first blow Inter found the advantage thanks to Cambiasso, perfectly served by Ibrahimovic, with the same Argentine player destined to double just a few minutes before half-time on a counter-attack.
In the second half the music doesn't change and it's up to Ibrahimovic to bring his team to the 0-3 shortly after the quarter of an hour; it seems all over, but Luca Toni is unleashed, scoring two goals, bringing his team to a one goal deficit with ten minutes to go, which however pass without other emotions.
Inter will be crowned champions of Italy at the end of the season, while for Fiorentina there will be a sensational sixth place, which without the fifteen penalty points would have led the Tuscan team to finish third.
Fiorentina's biggest victory
Fiorentina v Inter 5-0 (11 May 1952)
Juventus is now far away, even if mathematics still gives some hope to Milan and Inter, second and third in the standings with six days to the end of the championship, however, forced to recover respectively seven and nine points.
For Inter the commitment is not the easiest, since it has to face Fiorentina, fourth in the standings and often relentless at home: after a rather balanced first half, ended on one to zero for the home team, the second half becomes a nightmare for the Milanese, who in just over twenty minutes are forced to suffer another three goals, completed by the goal at the end of Pandolfini.
Inter end the championship in third place, six points above Fiorentina, fourth.
Inter's biggest victory
Fiorentina v Inter 0-3 (31 March 1940)
In a championship played head to head with Bologna, Inter comes to Florence to face the hosts on the twenty-fifth day, with the aim of recovering the point of detachment from the leading team of Emilia, playing on the field of Bari.
For its part Fiorentina is in the middle of the fight not to be relegated and clings tooth and nail to a draw that would be a godsend for the team; the purple defence holds for sixty minutes, but after the goal of Rebuzzi at the quarter of an hour it collapses, suffering three minutes later the doubling of Frossi and the goal of Campatelli at the 76th minute.
Thanks to the draw in Bari, and the defeat of Bologna the following week on the field of Juventus, Inter took the top of the ranking, which it would not lose until the end of the championship, while Fiorentina was saved only on the last day.

Le due squadre arrivano alla sfida nel bel mezzo di un periodo non propriamente eccezionale, se si considera anche la sconfitta in Coppa Italia subita dall'Inter per mano della Juventus, ma attenzione ai toscani, che non perdono in casa da novembre, in occasione della prima partita sulla panchina viola di Prandelli, e che provengono da due vittorie tra le mura amiche.
Ad un attenta analisi dei numeri il pronostico appare tuttavia scontato in favore della squadra di Antonio Conte, che può vantare, tra le altre cose, sul doppio dei punti in classifica rispetto ai rivali e su di un attacco che nei soli due giocatori principali, Lautaro Martinez e Lukaku, ha segnato fino a questo momento più goal dell'intera Fiorentina messa insieme (24-21).
Il primo match in Serie A tra le due società risale al 1932 e ad aggiudicarselo fu la squadra toscana, capace di imporsi per 3-0, con il bilancio totale delle partite di campionato disputate a Firenze che vede i padroni di casa decisamente in vantaggio nel conto delle vittorie (28-18), anche se il risultato più presente nella sfida tra le due squadre è stato il pareggio, occorso già 34 volte.

La più bella vittoria della Fiorentina

In uno stadio Artemio Franchi gremito da oltre cinquantamila spettatori, armati di ombrelli e incuranti della pioggia scrosciante che accoglie i protagonisti del big match, Fiorentina e Inter si affrontano all'ottava giornata di ritorno, in quello che appare da subito uno snodo fondamentale verso lo scudetto.
I padroni di casa partono con decisione, sospinti dal calore del pubblico, e dopo un quarto d'ora di assedio alla porta avversaria trovano la rete del vantaggio con Chiarugi, che di testa ribadisce in rete una respinta del portiere avversario.
Sul finale del primo tempo Mazzola spreca incredibilmente due opportunità per pareggiare e nella ripresa sono ancora i padroni di casa a rendersi pericolosi in contropiede, anche se il risultato non cambia. Alla fine della stagione la Fiorentina vincerà il suo secondo scudetto, mentre l'Inter arriverà quarta.
La più bella vittoria dell'Inter
Fiorentina-Inter 2-3 (9 settembre 2006)
Ogni leggenda ha un inizio, e quella dell'Inter vincente, destinata a culminare nel triplete del 2010, è iniziata proprio a Firenze, in una sera di settembre che coincide con la prima giornata del campionato 2006/07.
I padroni di casa, penalizzati di quindici punti in classifica in seguito alle vicende di calciopoli, partono con il piede sull'acceleratore, ma al primo affondo l'Inter trova il vantaggio grazie a Cambiasso, perfettamente servito da Ibrahimovic, con lo stesso giocatore argentino destinato a raddoppiare a pochi minuti dall'intervallo su azione di contropiede.
Nel secondo tempo la musica inizialmente non cambia e tocca ad Ibrahimovic portare la sua squadra sullo 0-3 poco dopo il quarto d'ora; sembra tutto finito, ma si scatena Luca Toni, che segna due reti, portando i suoi ad un solo goal di svantaggio a dieci minuti dalla fine, che tuttavia trascorrono senza altre emozioni.
L'Inter si laureerà a fine stagione campione d'Italia, mentre per la Fiorentina ci sarà un sensazionale sesto posto, che senza i quindici punti di penalizzazione avrebbe portato la squadra viola a chiudere terza.
La vittoria più larga della Fiorentina
Fiorentina-Inter 5-0 (11 maggio 1952)
La Juventus è ormai lontana, anche se la matematica concede ancora qualche speranza a Milan e Inter, seconda e terza in classifica a sei giornate dalla fine del campionato, costrette tuttavia a recuperare rispettivamente sette e nove punti.
Per l'Inter l'impegno non è dei più facili, dato che deve vedersela con la Fiorentina, quarta in graduatoria e spesso implacabile tra le mura amiche: dopo un primo tempo piuttosto equilibrato, terminato sull'uno a zero per la squadra di casa, la ripresa diventa un incubo per i meneghini, che in poco più di venti minuti sono costretti a subire altre tre reti, arrotondate dal goal allo scadere di Pandolfini.
L'Inter chiuderà il campionato al terzo posto, sei punti sopra la Fiorentina, quarta.
La vittoria più larga dell'Inter
Fiorentina-Inter 0-3 (31 marzo 1940)
In un campionato giocato testa a testa con il Bologna, l'Inter scende a Firenze per affrontare i padroni di casa alla venticinquesima giornata, con l'obiettivo di recuperare il punto di distacco dalla squadra emiliana capolista, impegnata sul campo del Bari.
Dal canto suo la Fiorentina è in piena lotta per non retrocedere e si aggrappa con le unghie e con i denti ad un pareggio che sarebbe per la squadra una manna dal cielo; la difesa viola regge per sessanta minuti, ma dopo il goal di Rebuzzi al quarto d'ora crolla, subendo tre minuti dopo il raddoppio di Frossi e la rete di Campatelli al settantaseiesimo minuto.
Complici il pareggio di Bari, e la sconfitta dei felsinei la settimana successiva sul campo della Juventus, l'Inter prenderà la vetta della classifica, che non mollerà più fino alla fine del campionato, mentre per la Fiorentina arriverà una sofferta salvezza solo all'ultima giornata.
