The Cook and The Steward Imprisoned

Akpatta arrived home from his business trip to Lagos. While he came by aircraft, his goods were transported by road. As soon as he arrived home, Abia, his son, didn't waste time to inform him about the warehouse incident.

'Papa, thieves went into the warehouse and stole some items,' said Abia. "When did it happen?" asked Akpatta.

'Cook, what happened to the warehouse?" asked Akpatta.

'Thieves went into the warehouse and stole some items, answered the cook. 'How did it happen and who was with the keys,' asked Akpatta. It was yesterday morning that the Store
Keeper came and informed us that the warehouse had been looted. And when I visited there, neither the padlock nor the door was tampered with, said the cook.

'Where was the security guard?' asked Akpatta.

The security guard was locked up inside the toilet,' answered the cook.

"By the way, what have they stolen, 'asked Akpatta. 'You are lucky sir, they couldn't make away with so many items because the Store Keeper sold most items on the day of the incident. He confirmed that about one
hundred and twenty-four cartons of peak milk and sixty seven bags of granulated sugar were stolen,' said the cook.

Good Heavens!' exclaimed Akpatta. The storekeeper had certainly added some stolen items to the quantities of items that he had already sold. Definitely, the thieves had also given the storekeeper an opportunity to increase his purse.

Immediately, Akpatta left for the warehouse. Ndopnda scolded Abia for having a sharp mouth. 'Why didn't you allow your father to eat and have rest before you told him about the stolen goods in the warehouse?' asked Ndopnda.

'I didn't know,' answered Abia. Ndopnda quickly made reference to one of his masters.

'My last master told me that whenever he returned from an outing, he ought to be allowed to eat and rest before he could be given any report, and that any bad report that might come to him could infuriate him more if he had returned home unhappy.'
Akpatta met the storekeeper. He knew that the storekeeper was an honest man who had served him for some time, but he still threatened him with police arrest.

Meanwhile, Ndopnda didn't inform his master about the development of the previous day between the cook, the steward, and the driver of a pick-up van. They were convinced that nobody had seen them. And true to their belief, nobody saw them when the deed was executed.

Sometimes, when they were worried as they thought of the crime and their heart started to beat, they concentrated on a tedious work and soon forgot about it.

They went about performing their individual responsibilities with the hope of leaving their master in a month's time. The cook had wanted to open a restaurant with his share of the deal while the steward intended to travel out from the village.

On the whole, the hope of the storekeeper and the night guard hanged on the balance. They were in the police net. They were tortured to speak the truth, and for fear of further punishment, they both told lies by accepting the knowledge of the deal. Yet they had more severe punishment because they couldn't afford to produce the items stolen or money acquired from the sales of the stolen items.

Ndopnda didn't like the way the poor and innocent storekeeper and the security guard were man-handled. So he opted to speak to his master on what he had observed on the day of the incident about the cook, the steward, and the pick-up van driver.

Immediately, the three partners in crime, the cook, the steward, and the Pick-up van driver, were arrested and interrogated. They all made confessional statements before the police. They were tried and imprisoned while the unsold goods discovered were handed over to Akpatta.

My dear friend you are such a good story teller . Truly is not good to report something to anybody that just came back from a trip without allowing the peraon to rest and eat just like abia did. It is an intriguing story that uncovers the plot and the complicity of the cook, the waiter and the van driver. Justice was served, as the honesty of the shopkeeper and the security guard had been questioned.

Thank you for sharing, I wish you much success, have a happy day.
