Extrem (und) gut! / Extremely (and) good!

Hallo, Ihr Lieben!

Heute melde ich mich 'mal mit etwas ganz anderem – darf ggf. gerne als Brainstorming verstanden werden. Ob die Geschichte hier auf Deutsch Unplugged richtig aufgehoben ist und sein wird, ist nämlich schon das erste Fragezeichen. Inhaltlich schon, aber so lesertechnisch…? Hmm…

Aber worum geht es eigentlich? Ein Freund von mir, Issam, genannt Sam, hat einen total verrückten Plan. Und das sage und schreibe ich voller Bewunderung!

Im vergangenen Jahr ist er, quasi vorbereitend, von Februar bis Dezember die Panamericana mit dem Rad gefahren. Ohne e-Unterstützung und ohne Netz und doppelten Boden. ~26.000km von Feuerland ausgehend bis Alaska. Okay, auf das letzte Drittel von Albuquerque aus bis Prudhoe Bay mußte er leider verzichten. Nicht aus körperlichen oder technischen Gründen, sondern aus einer ganz dämlich-verquickten Geschichte heraus – die er Euch eigentlich am besten einmal selber erzählen sollte.

Das führt mich zur Frage: Wie geht das hier mit Videos? Sam ist nicht der große Schreiber, bzw. auf so einer Tour ist das kaum möglich. Aber er fährt mit Helmcam und seine Begleitberichte sind immer extrem packend und (unfreiwillig?) komisch. Also – ich habe da keine Ahnung von; er wäre dem Steem als Plattform für seine Erlebnisse gar nicht abgeneigt. Was müßte er tun…?

Jedenfalls hat er unter Beweis gestellt, daß er Strecken von über 200km am Tag fahren kann, daß die Anden kein unüberwindbares Hindernis für ihn sind und daß er zielsicher mit allem umgeht, was auf so einer Solotour passieren kann – und auch passiert. All das natürlich nicht komplett untrainiert; lange Strecken unter harten Bedingungen hat er über die Jahre nach und nach für sich erschlossen und seine Grenzen ausgetestet. Nun arbeitet er daran, sie immer wieder zu überschreiten ;-))

Nach einem ganzen Monat Pause, die er sich und seinem Rad gegönnt hat, rückte er mit oben angedeutetem verrückten Plan heraus: am Sonntag fliegt er nach Marrakesch/Marokko und fährt von dort im Laufe der kommenden Woche los. Er wird Afrika umrunden!

Vor ihm liegen, ausgehend von seiner zunächst geplanten Streckenführung, ca. 32.898km… Für das Abenteuer hat er etwa 2 Jahre eingeplant.

Die Strecke zwischen Marrakesch und Kairo ist schon ziemlich genau durchgeplant, weil er diese bereits vor Jahren einmal gefahren ist und über einige Kontakte verfügt. Die sind insofern wichtig, als daß er zum einen in Abständen ganz froh ist, wenn er nicht im Zelt schlafen muß, Wäsche waschen oder duschen kann und Abendessen bekommt, das er nicht aus einer Plastikfolie klauben muß. Zum anderen geht es ihm nicht zuletzt um authentische Begegnungen mit Menschen in den über 30 Ländern, die er passieren wird.

In einigen davon dürfte es Steemianer geben, die vielleicht Interesse daran haben, diese Aktivitäten zu verfolgen und mit Rat und Tat zu unterstützen…

Was mir dazu so spontan eingefallen ist: auf dem beschriebenen ersten Abschnitt dürfte @kouba01 in Reichweite sein… Bitte gerne melden, wenn ich Kontakt herstellen soll ;-))

Im weiteren Verlauf sehe ich Berührungspunkte mit Steemfreunden in Uganda - @elkezaksek…? In Südafrika denke ich an @jaynie und @patjewell, in Nigeria an @sbamsoneu (in Port Harcourt kommt er auf jeden Fall vorbei ;-)) und vielleicht mag @ubongudofot das Ganze journalistisch begleiten…?

Ich bin sicher, da gibt es noch viele mehr entlang des Wegs. Die kenne ich nur nicht oder sie fallen mir nicht ein: bitte verbreitet doch das Projekt ein wenig und laßt uns miteinander netzwerken!

Wo sollten begleitende Berichte überhaupt auf dem Steem erscheinen? Wie oben anmoderiert, ist vielleicht ausgerechnet eine deutsche Community nicht der beste Platz dafür? Es geht um Sport, Reisen, Politik (immer!), Soziales, Technik (selbst gebautes Fahrrad, Ersatzteile, Navigation,…), Essen, Erste Hilfe (oh ja!) und, und, und… Nicht vergessen, daß es überwiegend Videoberichte wären. Also rein textbasierte Communities sind wohl eher 'raus…

Today I'm getting back to you with something completely different - you're welcome to take this as a brainstorming session. Whether the story is and will be in the right place here on Deutsch Unplugged is already the first question mark. In terms of content, yes, but in terms of readership...? Hmm...

But what is it actually about? A friend of mine, Issam, called Sam, has a totally crazy plan. And I say and write this with admiration!

Last year, he cycled the Panamericana from February to December as a kind of preparation. Without e-support and without a safety net. ~26,000km from Tierra del Fuego to Alaska. Okay, unfortunately he had to do without the last third from Albuquerque to Prudhoe Bay. Not for physical or technical reasons, but because of a very stupidly convoluted story - which he should actually tell you himself.

Which leads me to the question: How does this work with videos? Sam isn't a great writer, or rather it's hardly possible on a tour like this. But he rides with a helmet cam and his accompanying reports are always extremely gripping and (unintentionally?) funny. So - I have no idea about that; he wouldn't be averse to Steem as a platform for his experiences. What would he have to do...?

In any case, he has proven that he can ride distances of over 200 kilometres a day, that the Andes are not an insurmountable obstacle for him and that he can deal unerringly with everything that can - and does - happen on such a solo tour. Of course, he is not completely untrained; over the years he has gradually mastered long distances under tough conditions and tested his limits. Now he is working on exceeding them again and again ;-))

After a whole month's break, which he allowed himself and his bike, he came up with the crazy plan mentioned above: on Sunday he will fly to Marrakesh/Morocco and set off from there in the course of the coming week. He is going to circumnavigate Africa!

Based on his initially planned route, he has around 32,898 kilometres ahead of him... He has planned around 2 years for the adventure.

The route between Marrakech and Cairo has already been planned out pretty precisely because he travelled it once years ago and has a number of contacts. These are important insofar as, on the one hand, he is sometimes quite happy when he doesn't have to sleep in a tent, can wash his clothes or take a shower and has dinner that he doesn't have to pick out of plastic wrap. On the other hand, he is also interested in authentic encounters with people in the more than 30 countries he will pass through.

In some of them there should be Steemians who might be interested in following these activities and supporting them with help and advice...

What occurred to me spontaneously: @kouba01 should be within reach on the first section described... Please let me know if you would like me to make contact ;-))

In the further course I see points of contact with Steem friends in Uganda - @elkezaksek...? In South Africa I am thinking of @jaynie and @patjewell, in Nigeria of @sbamsoneu (in Port Harcourt he will definitely come by ;-)) and perhaps @ubongudofot might accompany the whole thing journalistically...?

I'm sure there are many more along the way. I just don't know them or can't think of them: please spread the word about the project and let's network!

Where should accompanying reports even appear on the Steem? As mentioned above, maybe a German Community is not the best place for it? It's about sports, travelling, politics (always!), social issues, technology (self-built bikes, spare parts, navigation,...), food, first aid (oh yes!) and, and, and... Don't forget that it would be mostly video reports. So purely text-based Communities are probably out...
